I’ve had a rough trot too! A fox has dug up my potatoes while stashing someone’s eggs! 🤷🏼♀️ lost zucchini’s , cucs & lettuces to stud Melb weather. So onto doing re- plantings now. Tomatoes are doing ok though 😊. 7:34 Coriander is a cool season crop, so save seeds & sow in autumn. Cheers! Good seeing a local gardener 😊
Melbourne weather can be so unpredictable! And we have so many foxes don’t we? I learned the hard way before I had entirely fox proofed my chook pen a few years back. Lost my favourite girl. Sorry to hear about your spuds. I love growing potatoes in grow bags and tubs.
Try growing your coriander as a micro green crop. Constant supply and zero disappointment. I just buy kilo bags of coriander seeds (approx $10) and germinate a tray a week. Use seedling flats/trays. Works great for basil and other herbs/greens too.
Hey mate. You mentioned that you had no male zucchini flowers. You can use male pumpkin flower to pollinate you zucchini as both are cucurbita. Just that the seeds will be different.
Buy the cheap net bags in Coles in the Vegie section, cut off bunches of Coriander and stuff them in bags to collect seeds as they dry. I laughed at your Plum eating dog, that’s all you need competing with the rats, possums and insects.
Hey mate. Dr Elaine Ingham Soil biologist. You'll find youtube tutorials from her. Maybe you will get some answers on how to fix your soil. Understanding how trophic levels work in soil. I feed my soil not my plants now these days. I are a humic and fulvic acid convert these days. Course river sand to help your hydrophobic soil which you'll need to dig in and you can use it as a mulch as well. If I do directly seed planting into a garden bed I'll put a 2cm cover of course river sand down. It helps with watering as it won't disturb seed if shallow planting. If you think you have canker in prunus tree I'd be removing and re planting new and treat my soil just in case. I plant mustard seeds in after summer crop if I'm a bit suss on soil condition.
Oh! For my coriander seed I cut seed heads off and forget for 3 months and then put on strong pair of gloves and rub between hands onto sheets of paper and then pour from height to remove the chaf from the seed but you will need a slight breeze so that the chaf will blow away. What out for the ouch factor when rubbing seed.
Fabulous advice! Thank you. I will check out Dr Ingham. I definitely agree that feeding soil is so important - but will be great to have more information on how to do so. That’s really interesting about the sand, I wouldn’t have thought to do that. I ended up removing the diseased tree yesterday and planting a quince after reading up on canker in young trees. Appreciate all the advice re coriander! Thanks!!
Superbe bravo

Smart! Do you grow it inside or outside?
Yeah coriander is autumn/spring only in my bit of oz
Yep that’s the only time I can grow it without it going to seed immediately too. Whereabouts are you located?

Thank you. I’ll give it a shot once some pumpkin flowers develop.

Great tip, thank you. Yes, she’s a big couch potato, except when it comes to contorting herself into spaces where she can reach fruit!
