Relaxing veggie garden tour at dusk - Melbourne
Hi folks,
Join me for a relaxing tour of my Melbourne veggie garden where I discuss my new turf lawn - a variety of buffalo called Viridian Velvet, fruit trees and staggered ripening, my tomatoes and how I like to store and freeze them, previous straw bale growing methods, zucchini issues, keeping chooks and plans for the new chook pen.

Late spring veggie garden tour - Melbourne
มุมมอง 3.1K27 วันที่ผ่านมา
Hope you enjoy this little tour of my veggie garden in late spring here in Melbourne, Australia. *corection, when talking about the self seeded tomatoes, I meant to say “now that we DON’T have a male dog anymore”. Sadly our gorgeous Frankie passed away earlier this year. But it does mean I don’t have to worry about my ground level plants getting wee’d on anymore. #gardening #garden #growyourown...

Your garden is a dream!!! Would love this My dog unfortunately loves to get into my garden. Everything dies 😂😢
Everything looks great in your garden 🥰
Thank you!
Love the flashbacks!
Thank you! Always nice to look at a big bucket of tomatoes
Your garden is looking stunning! Loved this tour! 😍🙌💚
Thanks Jackie! I appreciate it
You really do have a good set up!! gonna take me years to do mine!! LOL!!
It’s an ongoing process gardening! This garden has been a long time in the making (almost 4 years). Best of luck with yours.
😂ya now you're listening to a Melbournian when they say "heeya" for "here".
Haha I’ve never thought about it but you’re right!
Good farming gardening , Love Hobbies .
Good to help 🍯 🐝 to making Honey across the 🌏?Greedy natures to disturbing ?Please boycott them?
Lovely! Some of them are almost iridescent.
Yes, the dill and cosmos especially!
It's not blossom-end rot on your zucchinis, it's poor pollination. Get out there early in the morning and pollinate and you'll get lots.
Thanks, I’ll give that a shot! Much appreciated.
That passionfruit wall is stunning! Love your garden! 😍🙌💚
Thanks Jackie! I love my passionfruit vine. I still have some from last year in the freezer, it’s so productive.
@the.bee.friendly.gardener How long did it take you to grow it and is it easy to take care of? Thinking of growing one but don't know where to put it cause of space.
It's a tomato jungle!
It sure is! I’m curious to know what type the self seeded ones are. Any guesses?
Really enjoying your garden tours! Some great ideas/inspiration! I’ve just started my first veggie garden in Perth and loving it! 😊
Thanks Meredith! So exciting, good luck for your new veggie garden! There’s a great gardening podcast called All The Dirt - both the hosts are from WA and I’ve found it really interesting and educational.
Your garden is looking beautiful despite the heat. I am in Melbourne and my avocado tree has ten tiny pea sized fruits and I hope we don't have too much wind!
Oh I would love an avocado tree! What variety do you have? Good luck, hopefully the wind is kind to you and your tree.
@@the.bee.friendly.gardenerI have a Hass avocado tree that was planted in the 80's by my uncle. It took many years to fruit but one year we had about 100 avocado's. Then every year we have less. The weather in Melbourne is very unpredictable but we keep it for sentimental reasons.
Hello, how are you? I am a regular viewer of your TH-cam channel. I came here to say that- Your content is always engaging and incredibly well-presented!" Good luck to you. 🩵
👍⚘️
Good stuff. Well done. 😊
Thanks Leon!
Very impressive!
Cheers! Appreciate the support
Wow so nice great job support every farmer❤❤❤
Very nice work
Thank you! Cheers!
Im waiting for my cosmos to flower.. 😩
Fingers crossed they bloom soon for you!
How on earth are your blueberries and apricots ripe. I’m on the Mornington’s peninsula and my apricots are just starting to get to fullness and only some with a blush. 😊
Strange how it works sometimes. I am usually about three weeks later than most other gardeners I know in our local area for flowering and ripeness of....pretty much everything; strange hey!
Good question! The apricot is a ‘Storey’ variety which is an early fruiter. As for the blueberries - perhaps because they were planted against a west facing brick wall which acts like a bit of a heat sink. Good luck with the apricots! Mine have all been eaten now sadly. They were so good!!
Coucou Superbe vidéo, encore un beau moment à regarder 😊
Thank you! ☺️
Those cosmos are absolutely stunning! 😍🙌🌸
They really are aren’t they? Always a happy sight! Thanks Jackie
Lovely ❤
Amazing 🥰💚💚💚👌🏻♥️
Wow.. yummy 😋
Formidable vidéo bravo 😊
Thank you!
@the.bee.friendly.gardener de rien c'est avec plaisir
Beautiful garden 👍
Thank you!
Yum. My apricots are still a few weeks away.
It was delicious! Didn’t last a day! What variety do you have?
Wow👌🥰👌
Thanks!
Wow, your garden is so nice. I love it very much ❤❤❤
😮 very much
Add these plants to your wish list that do well for Melbourne. White sapote and Cherimoya
I would love a Cherimoya! Just have to find the space
wow you make your own compost bin thats amazing
I bought a dwarf mulberry earlier this year too. It started leafing up then turned yellow and dropped all it's leaves. I thought I'd lost it but now it's returning with bright green healthy looking leaves. I hope yours comes good too. Cheers!
Sounds like yours is on the right trajectory! Fingers crossed mine follows suit. The nurseryman I spoke to was quite encouraging and said they’re fairly resilient trees, whereas the persimmon might be a bit more finicky…
I can definitely relate to buying more plants and not necessarily have space for them 😂
Haha Aquire first, find space later!
There is a lot to love about your plot! The espalier against the sunny wall for one; textbook awesome! Love the fact that the fig tree is from your family home too, good feels :). Re the pears, always take the high road and give the fruit evenly, or take the low road and give them ALL the fruit and remind them of it constantly 😂....but y'know, take the high road hehe. If the mulberry has some green as you say in the stem cambium layer, should be right, hopefully the warmth gets it going :). Is it a white or red shahtoot? "Give your plants a chance" is a great motto, my wife has saved many trees from my uprooting and has been right every time, they always came back. Apologies for the long comment, but one last thing: man, those APRICOTS! They're beauts! One of my fave stone fruits, and the low chill variety (a marcot from down south) I've had in the ground has yet to even flower after three years in the ground... happy for your success here!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment! I’ll take your advice about the pears ha ha - splitting them evenly that is! The mulberry is a red variety, do you grow mulberries? Ahh apricots… I think they’re my favorite. Mine is a 3 year old tree and has flowered the past few seasons but hasn’t borne fruit until this year. The flowers alone are spectacular, and you can’t beat a home grown apricot. Fingers crossed for some fruit from yours next year!!
Very nice.. I love watching your video, your work is great. visit India
The fan espalier stone fruits look like beautiful Christmas trees with fruit baubles.
It does doesn’t it? Merry Christmas!
Audibly and visually peaceful 🥰
Thank you 🙏
Very nice
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video
This is absolutely amazing ❤
Thanks Mary!
Wow seems like heaven there could spend forever there
Thanks John! It’s pretty close to heaven for me.
No pumpkins?
Not this year unfortunately! I have grown standard butternut and wrinkled butternut pumpkins in the past, which were excellent, but a lot of my seeds are in storage elsewhere due to the shed renovation. Do you have any recommendations for pumpkin varieties you like?
for a handful of tomato plants, you can get away with tying up to a stick. i typically grow a dozen of indeterminate plants, and have found sanity by investing in making a solid support structure i can hang strings from and use commercial clips. i also grow about 3 bush tomato variety Rebel F1 or similar, which is a determinate and requires no tying up at all, as grows close to ground without spreading too much. i've found the whole mulching and composting thing to be expensive and spent too much time doing it, and it was making my soil even more hydrophobic. commercial growers dont mulch. i bought a dripline irrigation kit from US for the veggie patch, because local offerings are overpriced and other issues. i got rid of raised beds and finally grow in easy to manage and dripline water and fertilize rows. each to their own, as we all have different needs. i will say that i wish i knew earlier that most of the marketing hype of raised beds online was just that. anyhow, happy now without them. keep growing.
It is my first time on your channel and I have just subscribed. your garden is so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. Keep up the good work. All the best on this journey.
Really appreciate the support! Thank you
@@the.bee.friendly.gardener You are most welcome😊
Greetings from Far North Queensland. What a lovely garden :) stumbled across your channel in the recommended vids, so glad! Aside from all else, your tour just makes me really want to grow runner beans again! Used to grow them in England, and they are only matched by snake beans in how much they give and give for so little! Looking forward to getting to know your patch through your vids, looks like I have some catching up to do! 😅
Thanks so much for your lovely comment! Good luck with the runner beans - glad I’ve inspired you! I might grow some snake beans next year.
@the.bee.friendly.gardener nice! They have reliably fed my family since I was a kid 😀
Very Nice
wow Very Nice
