on this day a piglet belonging to my great uncle buller escaped and was finally caught in butlers farm kitchen in baxterley north Warwickshire as the piglet was caught,it was announced on the wireless that Russian hero had won the 1949 grand national,so that was his name from then on,what a story!!!.
....thirty hurdles....who writes this stuff....might apply nowadays...not then though...
I wonder what would have happen if or when the BBC where given the chance to televised the Grand National from 1946 to 2012 we will never know plus who would be the lead commentators then maybe the Late great Peter O Sullivan he would then co-commentator I am sure he would commentator the national course then from fence five 1946 to fence 10 1949 then move 1950 to fence 1 to 4 and from fence 11, to 12, 1959 then become lead commentator from 1960 to 1997 but this is my guest like I said we will never know now never happen
