@@chatham43 Sir ,If u look closely at the footage u will see Caughoo jumping second Bechers .The story is a myth and sour grapes!! on the part of the 2nd /3rd 🤔🤔 .Fantastic National s then n up until 1989 ..My first National was 67 What a introduction..Glynn n Greetings from Stourbridge West Midlands
@@glynnevans1851 Yes, there is clear visual evidence that Caughoo completed the full distance. My first GN was 1967 too! I'm currently researching for and making a GN website which will contain a how ran description for every horse in every race from 1836 on and lots more!
@@chrisdowling8094 Hi Chris ,Many thanks for your reply 'I did a similar project of post war Nationals but hand written about 50 years ago. Sadly the Grand National is shadow of what it was and prior to 1989 a true test of skill n judgement and how to judge the pace of a race 4 .5 miles. Going back to 1947 I believe the 1st and 2nd jockey s had a true Irish fight concerning Caughoo alleged to have hidden in the fog by the chair and past the winning post casually??.My kind regards Glynn n greetings from Stourbridge West Midlands UK 🤝
@@glynnevans1851 Hi Glynn, I generally agree with your comments regarding the GN thesedays being a shadow, particularly since 2013 (the spruce is too loose!), however, there were complaints in the 1850s about the obstacles being too small so I thought it was worth doing my website regardless. Yes, it's possible there were fisticuffs some years later (and certainly litigation was started by McCann on the runner-up) although much of Reg Green's book is inaccurate. Have you still got your handwritten? That's how I started off 4 years ago, I am currently rechecking (with Mick Mutlow, Chris Killeen and Dave Goodwin) as I type up (currently working on 1947!) and when I've finished the races I've got the indices to do so it will probably take another 4 years!! I will launch the site when it's finished but it is creeping up the search lists of its own accord so no harm in giving the link here: www.grandnationalultimatehistory.com/ (Just click on races and click on a year). If you would like to contact me please do so through the site and I will send you my personal e-mail address. Regards, Chris
Some great spills there. Today's National is a yawn by comparison
@levis The way it's going we'll be down to a dozen runners or so in a few years!
They reckon caughoo the winner cheated
....story goes he only ran one circuit...
Did he cheat I wonder no proof he did though
Did Caughoo only do one circuit that day at Aintree
...that's how the story goes.....
