I love that you actually show your progress! So many people just show them beginning on a project, be it haybale- or three-sisters gardening, telling you about the supposed benefits, and never telling you how it worked out. Thank you for this!

You are very welcome. That’s what I like as well so I try to follow through the whole process. Happy gardening.

Thanks Tracy! I'm about a month behind you, but I bought some plants from Walmart (tomatoes and cucumbers) and those are doing fantastic in the hay bales. My next pepper plants are going up there because I think a rabbit is eating the ones I put in a pot!

Christi Dea u are welcome. Thanks you for watching. So glad to hear your bale garden is doing well. Rabbits can be a nuisance for sure.

wow . . this was perfect timing. I usually a bale to plant potatoes. But last fall my neighbor had a holloween party and bought 11 bales. I got 2 from her, but she's got the 7 or 8 more left in her yard. I"m going to see if I can get them from her.

Your garden looks great. Thanks for showing the update. Hope you will keep doing it. The plants in my straw bales are not looking as good as yours. This is my first year trying them so I haven't figured out what's going on yet. Maybe it was the 9 inches of rain in just a few days that contributed. :)

Tybo Thanks so much. The rain will definitely affect it but just have patience it will pick up. I remember my first year. I worried because I didn’t think it was doing well and then it just started booming. I sometimes use a little miracle grow vegetable fertilizer to help feed my plants if I think they need feeding. That’s not something I do often. You started your garden after I did didn’t you? It will pick up soon I’m sure.

Do you use a new bale every year or do they last two years.

I apologize for not replying to this before now. Having difficulties with my notifications not showing up. I have used my bales 2 years in a row by placing them in a boxed in section of my garden. The only issue you may have is the bales start to break down and will not stand up as well. If you make some sort of support they definitely can be used two years straight. Keep in mind you will still need to conditon the bales the second year as well. Happy gardening.

Your garden looks very healthy. I like your watering system. I had to pay $8 a bale for straw. Very expensive if I am going to use very many bales. Growers need to be aware of Grazon being sprayed on straw. So be careful where you get your straw. I might give potatoes in straw bales a try. Straw bales might be the answer for poor clay soil. .

Thanks. I purchase my straw bales from a reliable local farmer for $4 a bale. Thanks for the info though. I haven’t been able to do any videos this summer . Broke my wrist right after planting the potatoes and that has really had me down. Hope to get back on it soon. Garden has done well surprisingly. I haven’t been able to baby it like usual.

I have a soaker hose on my bales. How often do I water? We have had a lot of rain lately. Also, do you have a video that shows how you made your irrigation system?

    • @gardeningwithtracy2326

Dena Ellis if you have lots of rain you shouldn’t have to water often if at all. I plant impatients in mine or any flower that wilts when low on water and they will tell you when you need to add water. I do have a video on the irrigation system. Here’s the link th-cam.com/video/NdExmX4k1Lw/w-d-xo.html. I started out with the soaker hoses and they worked great. I just had issues with them not lasting more than a season or two. They did a great job though. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Glad to help. Love hearing what others are doing. One question. Is your dad Dean Ellis. My husband has a friend named Dean and his daughter is Dena.

@@gardeningwithtracy2326 Thank you for answering so quickly! This is my first straw bale garden and I love it! I love all your videos. Ellis is actually my married name but that's funny you know someone else named Dena Ellis. Is her name spelled the same? I don't hear of too many other Dena's.

Dena Ellis thanks you so much. I appreciate it. I do love my straw bale garden. That is crazy about the name and yes I am thinking her name is spelled the same. Glad I could halo.
