Hey, really love the performances on this channel, but yall need headset microphones or clip ons for your actors. Recording with a camera in the middle of a laughing audience makes it impossible to hear the performances.
we sync the footage with 2 directional mics that are on the front of the stage pointing directly at the actors. For some reason (maybe that the theater is very cavernous?) we pick up a TON of the audience. We are thinking about investing in clip-ons just to record the audio, since we don't need them to project to the audience!
CharactersWelcome UCB You could try with a decca tree technique, or a mid-side tech with the cardioid mic pointing towards the scene. This should avoid picking up too much of the audience
@@CharactersWelcome There's really no need to invest in a clip-on mike when you could just put a regular mic inside the dead birds. Just kidding, a good clip-on mic would indeed do justice to this awesome sketch and Desi Domo. No need to constantly adjust the directional mics either.
@@CharactersWelcome Clip-on mics are tough for stage performance if there are costume gags or physicality -- which many of your sketches have. Plus, you run the danger of clipping at high volume given the projection needed for live performances. And headset mics are great for Ted Talks but, again, performance physicality makes anything short of the highest grade equipment relatively constraining or useless. (Headset mics seem like a magic solution to many people because they're often seen in performance settings BUT quite often they're props for lip synch or heavy backing track performances OR are toggled on and off manually depending on performance needs.) ADR is also another wrinkle in your production, I'm sure, and increases workload. That all said, the directional mics don't just pick up source audio in their intended target, they also pick up bounced waves and anything of sufficient volume nearest the mic, as you've discovered. If you can't afford additional sound absorbing treatments for your walls and surfaces (and given the stage itself is a sound bounce), you may try mounting your mics high and inside a baffle box. Essentially a 5-sided construct with the open end angled toward the target. Purchasing 10 sound absorbing panels (5/mic) may be affordable. You can find high quality stuff for about US$10 per square foot. Or you can just build a wooden box and cover all its surface in soundproofing foam. Think of the baffle boxes as reverse speakers angled toward the stage. With overlapping target fields, you might see an improvement in the audio pickup and a dampening of the ambient audience noise. Here ends my unsolicited advice.
I go to a school that offers places to all the kids who are choristers at the cathedral next to us. I'm friends with a few of them and they're really nice. there was another kid in there choir whos name was Spike. it wasn't a nickname, Spike was his given name by his parents. in just a few months he went from choir boy to weed smoking teenager who would constantly set fire to deodorant under the table. it was hilarious. and he only recently quit choir as well.
This brings back a lot of memories. Edit: I used to be part of the children's choir at a church I attended, and several of the boys would do stuff like this.
Oh, that happens to me all the time. It doesn’t hurt. What hurts is the knee deciding to commit voluntary death, and pop out. I didn’t think you could see cartoon stars irl until that happened. Couldn’t walk for two days.
