You are spot on! I have struggled all my life with finding my life purpose and all along I have always known what it is. But I DO keep pushing it aside and doing something else. And you know WHY I think many of us do that? Our PARENTS! I was taught from an early age to go to college (which I did) and get educated in a field where I will make good money. Period. My "real" passions were discouraged and I was told that "you can't make any money at that" or "that is a pipe dream...if you want to try that later that is fine but for now do XYZ". So I did what they told me to. Ugh! Since I figured this out in the last few years I have been working toward my TRUE calling! So never discourage your children from a particular career/passion and it is NEVER to late to be and do what you want!
You really hit a nerve in me when you talked about putting off what you really want to do and going for something smaller or safer... Because that's exactly what I've done, thank you for putting this into perspective. xxx
Fear is so crippling. I let fear hold me back from creating a TH-cam channel and driving. My friends encourage me to do both but I haven't taken the steps. Watching your videos these past couple of months have really inspired to take the leap this year! Thanks for your positivity and awesome content!!!
I remember when I felt sooo frustrated because I didn't know my purpose...and it was right under my nose the whole entire time! I loved your video with your journey, and how cool that the personality test helped you have an aha!
I needed this so much at this moment! (PS I'm the Vancouver girl that emailed you last week). I'm back to work after a week off feeling not so motivated but also confused about the direction to go in. This inspired me a lot and gave me a mid day perk. Thanks Melissa :)
Wow!! The second action step is spot on. I was going to give up my social work job working with families affected by DV. I was starting to feel burned out. I decided that I was going to fall back on love with my job and I started to do more self care which included mindfulness and feeling grateful for everything in my life. Slowly it made me realize that I have a great job! That I am blessed and recently was told I could chafe my schedule for something that works great for me. My company pays my insurance, I have generous PTO time, and I work with some amazing people including residents of our program. It is possible to fall back in love or just appreciate your current job. I was ready to give up and felt like everyday was such a burden just to get through. I was having anxiety going to work. It's amazing what some mindfulness and gratitude can do.
You just put into words exactly what I've been looking for!! THANK YOU! I am realizing that I too am in "idea" person and never was fulfilled by other "tangible" jobs.... this makes SO much sense now. keep doing what you're doing Melissa, you put out amazing (and needed) content. love your channel! best of luck.... sending you good thoughts to get to 100,000 subscribers!
I am inspired and passionate person just like you and love to create concept and ideas just like you to inspire....i come to know and realize that my purpose in life is to love others unconditionally. Family, Marriage, Children, Friends..I know that I am here on this earth to serve and love and help..and by love I meant to fight for what is right...to have no fear to love so fearlessly and relentlessly...it's so fulfilling to lay down our lives for others ♡ especially when you know it's been given to you ..why not give it back ?
You just inspired me ! you are so brave that you took an action on what you want to do in life.. You are going to be great, Keep doing what you love , coz its with love that great people shine. Best of luck👍🏻
I haven't found my purpose yet but just wanted to say how inspirational and helpful your videos are. You've definitely found your purpose, you shine with all you've done here so far. 👏🏼❤️
Thanks Melissa - this video has been on my "Watch Later" playlist for so long and randomly decided to watch it now and wow did I need this! Thanks again!!!!!!
u are an amazing inspiring person who is talking from real heart , with every words you said u really mean it and u feel it ,,,, u r talking naturally from ur deep heart to let others heart hear it rather than their ear ,,,
so i've been drawing since i could pick up a pencil- for years, everyone knew me as the artsy kid. i also have been gaming since before i could remember. and then i moved when i was 13 halfway across the country and i didn't... really want to draw. i started focusing more on my studies, and although i was already a straight A student, my grades only got higher. my family pushed me to be a doctor but i wasn't interested in medical stuff- i kinda like physics, so i went for engineering. and i haaated it. one semester literally almost killed me, bc i tried to commit suicide. so i came home, laid around for four months and only played video games bc it was the only thing that made me smile. but i continued to think 'well i could study engineering here, while at home.' and finally, it hit me: why am i pursuing something i hate and continuing to make myself so unhappy? and i finally realised the only thing that makes me happy, the only thing i love, is art and video games. so i combined the two, especially as i had already been super obsessed over concept art. my dream is to found my own game design company, be its creative director, and bring it to the top of the AAA charts. xo love this video, it saddens me that people don't have the type of passion that i have finally found. i only wish they find that passion as well!
+Obscura x Good luck reaching your goal. I went to university to study psychology then nursing and I have spent the last 6 and a half years working in mental health nursing when my dream is to leave it behind and become an artist.
Great video and something I needed to hear today! I can relate very much to you, I am also an "ideas" person. I discovered the Myers Briggs personality test a little over a year ago and it gave me so much insight. I have learned to embrace my INTJ-self instead of being confused by it.
its insane that you mentioned the vegan bakery example out of all examples, i have been wanting to start one but i have all the reservations that you mentioned and I just don't know how successful I would be, but it is a dream of mine
thank you so much for your effort , my path it's really like what you saying about ur self but I just find it these moment , even though the first time I was watching u I saw most of ur video , when u r talking i feel u r talking from ur heart
hi, I am listening to this as I take a nice bubble bath like podcast lately I've been really down. this has inspired me so much I'm so glad I subscribed to you a while back thank you.
You have to take a Myers Briggs personality test, it may be the one you took. It's amazing and really helps to understand yourself. If you research your result (im a ISTJ) and you'll find tons of resources about job suggestions, other famous people of that type, tips how to communicate with others, relationship compatibility.... I highly recommend Myers Briggs there are tons of free tests online, make sure to answer honestly. Im curious what type you get.
+snowbumbunnie Yes, I have taken that test - it's great! The one I am speaking about in the video is: www.careerfitter.com/free_test/careerbuilder/test
Great video:). The test was helpful for me. I stil hesitate what job is the best for me but the test gave me some tips :). I would like to see your video about how to stay motivated at work :)
The thing I struggle most with is feeling uncomfortable with the journey. I, like most people, can't quit my job overnight and start a brand new career, and while I've got a plan in place and I'm working towards my goals, on an almost daily basis I feel the pain of knowing what I'm supposed to be doing for a career and still having to plug away at my 9-5 while I save enough money to quit. How did you cope with working a job you weren't happy with while you were working towards your ultimate goal?
Great video! I majored in literature as well and got a masters in creative writing (and now I teach). Would love to see your book! If you ever want extra eyes to edit it, I teach college Composition and Rhetoric!
Are you an INFP personality? The "ideas " is totally my life. I have been called an idealist rather than an "actualist". I just want to do everything but nothing feels comfy. Idk. There are so many things and not enough words to express how i feel about what i want. Lol There are ideas i have about life that others see as unrealistic. :( Great video.
Thank you this video really helped me. I know my purpose on life and have started to take some steps towards it but people keep telling me it a unrealistic or I will change my mind to something more normal. I do worry that my purpose and my boyfriend's purpose in life might not truly be aligned though and that one might compromise the other. What are your thoughts on that?
Can my purpose change? I feel like in my life I can't just have one purpose. For example, my life purpose since my kids were born is to raise them as best as I can so that they can see the world without blinders and truly be themselves. But I know at some point they will not need me...then I am left confused...I feel that even a life purpose is so broad in definition, or is that just a goal?
How do you feel about having more then one passion? As in different passions that you want to further in the work place. Do you think that this spread of energy would cause a person to not do as well as if they were to focus and work on only one of their passions?
I have found my purpose in trying to help people to get the best version of themselves. But Im only doing this as a hobby, as I dont know how to make money with this yet. ;-)
+Mama Sow I agree, it felt like our deepest inner thoughts have been exposed. It hasn't helped me find my passion yet though but I feel so grateful to do anything now thanks to veganism and minimalism.
Melissa Alexandria I took the test and even paid for the full version report but weirdly enough my report is the same as the sample report on the site. I wonder if it is a scam...
Hi Melissa! Loved this video as always! I did the Myers Briggs personality test, on a website called 16 personalities (it's free) - maybe that's the one you did? I'd love to know what your personality type is! I am an ENFP. Any other ENFP's in the house?! :) x

So never discourage your children from a particular career/passion and it is NEVER to late to be and do what you want!
+Trending Tami That's wonderful that you're now working toward your true calling! All the best xx
+Trending Tami For realz! We are told that we have to go to college to be successful. This is BSSSSS.
You really hit a nerve in me when you talked about putting off what you really want to do and going for something smaller or safer... Because that's exactly what I've done, thank you for putting this into perspective. xxx
I love that you say we are not alone. A sense of community is important when finding purpose.
Fear is so crippling. I let fear hold me back from creating a TH-cam channel and driving. My friends encourage me to do both but I haven't taken the steps. I don't know if anyone has a specific life 'purpose'! I know what I want my career to be, but theres so much more to consider x
I think there are 'purposes'. Life is about finding and living those to be in full pleasure in every day life.
You've presented this idea so, so articulately, thank you. You have a new subscriber :)
Love it! The last point is something that helped me a lot in my last job! :-)
