    this is so interesting to watch, there was a point in time where i was literally obsessed with finding the perfect DTLA loft. The best priced one i lived in was Texere Plaza lofts, closer to USC. 5 years ago i was paying 1500 for like 600 sq ft studio. I checked out all the spots in the arts district but couldn't afford them so i got desperate and started looking into living in illegal loft spaces IE ones that were only zoned for commercial. I found some really sketchy situations, actually ended up living in one building for online one night b/c i found mold and got out of there as soon as i could, that said it was $1500 for like 3000 sq ft which was amazing in terms of size. I applied to live in the brewery but got denied, that spot is amazing as well. The coolest loft i ended up living in was in the peterson tansey building. Nice community, everyone's basically an artist. Anyway good luck with the hunt, its wild to see how much the prices have come up since 2016 but im not really surprised. Now im in the valley and have traded in the loft dreams for a simpler neighborhood vibe

    Definitely not Santa Fe lofts. I was harassed by a homeless person in their freaking hallway and we can’t get out of our lease bec police won’t give us police report because I wasn’t hurt. Leasing office won’t provide security guard. The next day someone followed me to our apartment, we told them that they just have to let us go without paying penalty. They agreed and we moved to 8th and grand which is the best apartment! Smaller but everything is new. Lots of amenities and SECURITY IS A MUST if you want to live in downtown. Everything is fob operated so no trespassers.
    Also Santa Fe is the building where they had a hostage taking because again there is no security whatsoever.

      OMFGGG! I was outside when all that shit went down! SWAT was there and everything! it was WIIIILD and I could only imagine how scary it was for the residents. LAPD is so damn useless man. They never take preventive measures and ALWAYS wait until someone get hurts to even take action. It can be super frustrating. When I was mugged the cops didn't show up until 30-40 mins later and while I was still in shock from it all they were cracking jokes about the situation. But YESSSS absolutely agree that security is a MUST if anyone is considering living in DTLA and fob operated doors + elevators help too!

    That’s honestly insane how expensive all of them were. I live Australia in a really nice neighbourhood and we’re paying the same rent as these apartments but for a massive 3 bedroom house with a big yard. Obviously the prices are different cause of the area and country but those prices for me makes it not worth it. But good luck ;)

      LA is comparatively cheap, believe it or not. You aren't going to find prices like this in Seattle or San Francisco, you even all the San Francisco burbs like Oakland are a lot more expensive. LA is cheaper than anything in Florida. Its kind of mind boggling that LA and Chicago are considered deals comparatively. Not even going to touch the NYC area, 800 sq is out of most people's budgets, living on the cheap end you are paying at least 100. sq ft. The city of San Francisco is going to be similar to NYC.

    I know it's too late but all leases in CA legally go to month to month and no need to sign a new one every. Sometimes you can negotiate out of a rent raise with a new year lease but unless that is the case I recommend going month to month automatically (you don't need to do or sign anything) :) cheers! So I lived in DTLA for 6 years and I have been in all of these apartments bc of friends or the business that I had. I lived in SB main for the whole time and for the first four years it was great but when Covid happened it went south. So many things happened where police where Involved and management didn’t care. Anyone can come in. I have friend still going in to use the pool and gym. Living in the interior was horrible. There were people doing p**n shoots or people fighting or even dogs barking for hours. Also there was a suicide and people left because. Of how gruesome it was. They decide to lower the rent and someone rented it but they didn’t tell him about the suicide. It’s also next to hotel Cecile so it’s a big NO. fun fact James Charles lived in 1012. Was not friendly at all😂😂 but Santa Fe is amazing. It’s a quiet and the neighbors are to themselves but the roof it amazingggg

    I'm gonna say, I'm a owner with a pool. But I don't think it's worth having your own pool especially having a public pool. I don't really like public pools. But for having my own pool, it really cost a lot to take really good care of it. And so much chemicals to buy to keep my pool clean. And for public pools, I think public pools are very disgusting and unsanitary. Some pool cleaners do really good in cleaning but if you get low star and cheap workers to clean public pools they will do it quick and sloppy so there is a chance public pools can still be dirty. And with the rude people that own buildings, there is certain type of people in Los Angeles. And I will admit moving somewhere that is nice, get some advice from ur fans who live in Los Angeles with nice apartments and housing. Some buildings are probably built poorly and probably had to be built fast so that's why there is couple of buildings with poor construction work in the house.

    • @daizyduke12
      @daizyduke12 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      You don’t like your own pool because it’s too expensive and you don’t like public pools because they are dirty? Your entire statement is pointless

    • @cookiedotcom
      @cookiedotcom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@daizyduke12 How so? I'm explaining why not getting pool of what she wants or if she is getting a house that is going to be expensive and a lot to take care of or like she said that she wanted an apartment with a pool that also explains "again" going to cost a lot to take care of. And for public pools it will either be unsanitary and not fully cleaned. So my "statement" can be a heads up for anyone wanting a pool or public pool. So, it's not really pointless. Or I'm just not good at explaining properly to you.🤷‍♀️

    • @cookiedotcom
      @cookiedotcom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@daizyduke12 Plus, I like my pool but it's a lot of work to keeping the pool clean everyday. And since prices went up for cleaning supplies for pools. It's harder every day to purchase them. And yes, public pool are very disgusting. I've been to public pools and all I see is spit or boogers in the pool floating or the bottom of the pool is green which is called algae and stuff that bacteria likes to eat which often builds up.

    i’m in the same boat as u.. just can’t find a dtla loft style apartment that fits my taste perfectly. everything is either too run down or has a bad layout etc. the best lofts are in arts district but those are going for like 4k for 800+ sq ft. they need to build more.. just not enough options available. ended up moving into a more modern, glass style building with some industrial, open layout elements. besides that, it’s impossible to find.

      @@twinelle I clicked your video *just* because I saw you went to the SB buildings, lol. My husband and I rented in SB Tower 2010-2016, it was only 30% occupancy when we moved in and awesome, but by 2014 it was terrible. Ceilings were caving in on a lot of units, water damage, security issues, trash issues, so many roaches by the time we left. Rent and parking and washer/dryer rentals always increasing. The walls are SO thin you can literally hear your neighbors (sides/above) sneeze, fart, and peeing even! If they're loud in the bedroom you'd hear that too. SB is literally *the* worst slum lord of LA, stay FAR away from any of them. Management is always changing over (often times building to building) every year or two, it is always a mess. They don't have security either, just front desk attendants, who were always missing from duty and in Tower building often having sex with residents in the mail room, not joking. Add 1k cost to all listed rentals in SB rentals- parking, amenities fees, laundry rentals, utilities, etc. Their amenities are often broken too, with no discounts for the cost..

I heard they have really good k ockoffs but you have to know who exactly to go to so you dont get burned or busted, since it is illegal to buy/sell fake merchandise. Good luck on your house search! I mean it’s not safe anywhere in Los Angeles really but it’s defs important to be aware of your surroundings when out n about anywhere. Ktown is where my car was constantly broken into and where I was mugged. I’ve lived in dtla for over 3 years and it’s been smooth sailing! I recommend the citizen app cause you can say on top of surrounding crime but will admit it gets me pretty paranoid so I had to take a lil break from checking it so often😥

    So I used to live in a converted warehouse off Kohler literally right by skid row like a block away and I'd hear guys get arrested for drugs and see some pretty sad sh*t, but I never didn't feel safe those guys were pretty much just trying to live and also if you don't make eye contact and you don't do drugs you'll probably get left alone downtown. Also, one time in LA I had a friend drop me off, weird guy at the corner waits till I go in to offer my friend drugs. I asked my friend why he waited till I left the dealer said I looked like a narc...I died. This city.

      I never was taught as a teen and only ever bussed around town wherever I lived. Then I studied at UC Davis and it’s a bike town so didn’t need a car whatsoever and after graduating I thought I’d continue biking everywhere but ppl in LA don’t know how to drive and don’t care for pedestrians so it’s too dangerous. So, my hubbies drives me where I need, I take metro or Lyft, or just walk. But, gonna make it my goal to get my license this year😃✨

    I live in what is either called East LA (it isn’t) or Boyle Heights, which is a part of DTLA. Just not in towers. More of a Downtown suburb. The Arts District is there as well. There is some debate about that, I think because of snobbish people who live in grossly overpriced lofts in the Arts District. I like my place, it’s nearly 100 years old, but this being an old place we have roaches. Plus lazy management and lack basic things like a fraking gate code for package delivery. Everyone here is pissed off about that. And every place around here is infested with roaches or mice or both. Good luck getting the landlord to do much about that.

    I rented a loft in downtown L.A. in the mid 90s. 3rd and Alameda. Think the building used to be a candy factory was near American Hotel and what used to be L.A.s premier punk bar Al’s Bar. I paid $895.00/month for a huge space (1000 to 1200 sq ft with great downtown views and had huge balcony. Layout was a bit awkward. Downtown L.A. was no man’s land after dark though…. Still it was a cool spot
