KC & The Sunshine Band were a hit machine. Hit after hit for a few years. KC was likely one of the highest paid entertainers of the 1970s.

Unfortunately a large band has a huge overhead expense. Also dividing payroll up equally always left unhappy members who felt like they're worth more

American Bandstand = Soul Train - melanin... It was around from the 50's(?) Definitely preferred ST, even as a pre-teen white youth in the Deep South... (although I'll be honest, I'd have been happy with more Scooby-Doo, Johnny Quest, or Thundarr the Barbarian)

KC and the Sunshine Band were on tv shows Midnight Special and Soul Train too. They had a lot of hit dance songs thru the 70s. Along with AWB, Wild Cherry and others, they were called Blue Eyed Soul back then. All their songs were catchy.

American Bandstand was the original dance show that aired regularly in various versions from 1952 to 1989. Soul Train was the black version that focused on Black artists and music. After airing locally on WCIU-TV in Chicago, Illinois for a year, It aired in syndication from October 2, 1971, to March 25, 2006. Across its 36-year history the show primarily featured performances by R&B, soul, and hip hop artists.

Well, let's come correct if we're gonna keep it a buck here, cool? The show most people know the name as "American Bandstand" did start in 1952. However, from '52 to '56 the TV show originally went by the name of simply "Bandstand." Which the original TV show host wasn't Dick Clark, it was originally hosted by a radio DJ named Bob Horn out of Philly. Clark replaced Horn just before the show was renamed to "American Bandstand." Just saying... +Peace Rock n' Roll 4 Your Souls My Friends+ 🤘😉🤘

This is a standard roller rink song. This & their song "I'm Your Boogie Man" (similarly catchy & the horn section is in sync in that video too--also bedazzled bell bottom pants). And yeah, the show is American Bandstand which was pretty much just like Soul Train but more Billboard top 40 pop music. And every week there would be a musical guest performing their latest hit. And they'd play new songs & have audience members rate if it was dance-able or not. The host was Dick Clark who hosted the New Year's Eve ball drop in Times Square, NY I'm pretty sure until he died.

American Bandstand with Dick Clark was the "light-skinned" 😉version of (the much later) Soul Train. "AB" began in the early 50's where as "ST" first aired in 1970 😍. I loved them both, but (of course) one gave more play to people of colour than the other (for various reasons) 🧐.

If you were going to a school dance in the mid to late seventies you would dance to this song at least once. The band was very popular because they were easy to listen to and dance to. If you haven’t heard it yet the song “Play That Funky Music”, by Wild Cherry is a great song and another one that was popular at dances in the mid seventies.

Our college fraternity in 1976 started doing Beer Busts every Tuesday’s, where we rented a bar that had a large attached building. I recorded two 90 minute cassettes of nothing but dance music (disco’s we’re getting very big back then) and at 11:00 pm, we opened the door into the big room where we brought 4 big speakers, amplifier and cassette player and man, did the girls show up! We had at least four or five KC songs on those tapes, all which was basically disco music. We killed it for two years, as one night we went through 18 kegs! $5 all you could drink and dancing!
