Thank you so much Willie. Myself and my husband love your vlogs. Please keep up the good work. You take us around South Africa to places we never knew existed. You are Top😊
My pleasure! Yerevan is great, isn't it? One of my favourite trips and a special video from a professional perspective, as it was my first video that got more thank 1K likes on this platform. Groete!
Sjo...wat n ryk geskiedenis. Dis hartverskeurend dat als so vervalle is.
Groete!
Leer ook baie oor dorp se geskiedenis so.
Wow..... amazing....I didn't even know this place existed and I've lived in the country for a long time now......as you say could be promoted for tourism......a business opportunity.......think you must visit S.A tourism and offer to do this for all the small towns you visit. You really are amazing!!!❤
That gentleman had such a lot of interesting artefacts and stories to tell😊. But such a bleak place considering they mine diamonds! Sad to see the state of some of the buildings too.
Hi Sheila, yes he is very interested in history and was absolutely the best person to speak to regarding Jagersfontein. The town itself has seen better days, but it has the potential to become a wonderful tourist destination if they play their cards right.
Hi Willie I hope that Lotto charity will also help this town to fix all the Churches and other buildings Would you ever consider filming via a drone footage to get a view of the mining town? I hope that they do more for tourism and establish a museum and tours of the town could help with job creation
Hi Mary, there are so much potential in Jagersfontein and they can create something special. Re the drone, I thought about using one on my travels abroad, but it is a mission with all the laws and regulations. I've not looked into using one in South Africa though - as you say, maybe something to consider. Hope all is well!
@willieexplore Hi Willie did you find out why the mine was closed?I have seen the Big hole in Kimberly and would have loved to see Jagersfontein mine. With Kimberly it is easy to travel there by train or bus which is good for tourism.
EXCELLENT presentation - keep it up. Just wondering: if the mine is still operational, why is the place so dilapidated - should have a thriving economy.
Hi Willie. Jagersfontein, been there done that and never bought the T-shirt. Some years back, I was looking at moving towns and Jagersfontein was on the list, but after having looked the town over, decided not for me. However you blog makes the town interesting. The research into the history of the town was truly interesting. As you stated, the mine should be opened like the Kimberly mine, bring tourism into the town, and it will grow. The "Oom" and his historical books on the town was also interesting, and one can see his passion for the town. Maybe he should talk to 5he mine owners to get the mine opened for tourism and allow it to become the second Kimberley. Thank you, great blog.
Hi Denis, thanks for your continuous support and engagement! From some of the other comments, I gather that the town looked very different a decade or two ago. Despite the current situation, I believe the town has a fantastic platform to launch an incredible tourism campaign. They have all the history, the biggest hole, interesting architecture and it is not a million miles away from Bloemfontein and Kimberley. It is also around the corner from Fauresmith. The Free State and the Northern Cape more generally has a lot to offer tourists but there needs to be the drive, monetary support and collective effort to make a success of it.
Jagersfontein used to be a lovely town. I've viewed that open mine. That water "fountain" was one of the early water dispensers and they had one on every other block and you used a token, like a modern day despenser, to get a bucket of water at a time.
Thanks for watching Peter. Yes, that is what Mr Venter also said when I visited him. Glad to hear you had an opportunity to view the open mine. They are missing a golden opportunity to get more tourism.
Hi Willie all well thanks as a long weekend 🎉Yes, I have spotted some SA vloggers who use drones especially when in the country side outside of the large cities. They use it to get an aerial view of the size of the village and a birds eye view of things that isn't visible on the ground. Keep well and safe travels
Ek wil in my hande huil as ek hierdie sien.
Groete
Dis nes jy daar noem, Johan.

Groete!

@willieexplore Dit is so, ja.
Baie dankie😊
Baie dankie Sandy, waardeer jou ondersteuning!

Great video willie but as stated that has Australian feel towards about these towns. Thanks for visiting these lands and places so others can view!
Cheers Simon, interesting to hear that comparison with Australia. Lots of mining towns Down Under of course too. Greetings

I have spent many holidays in Jagersfontein with my aunt who lived there. It is town rich with stories and I would recommend a visit to the graveyard.
It is a very interesting place with unique tales to tell. Thanks for watching and engaging!
Dankie Willie. My pa was daar gebore en hy het vir ons baie stories vertel. Ek is so bly om dit te sien. Ek is nou 68jaar oud.

Thank you so much Willie - this is so informative and I agree - this town could really get a boost if they developed events to attract more tourism!
My pleasure Barbara, thanks for watching. More tourism would really give this region a boost!
Hi Willie thank you for such a great vid so much history one thing i noticed is that its very clean
You are most welcome, thanks for watching and contributing to the discussion. The locals certainly keep their town in pristine condition.

Absolutely a gem, albeit a rough one. No doubt it has a lot of potential with regards to tourism. Thanks for watching!

Giel is the only person I know with a passion for jagersfontein.
It was a privilege to spend time with him. He is so knowledgeable about the town!
That water fountain was actually a water dispenser. People would buy tokens which they would insert in the dispenser and get 5 gallons of water
Yes indeed, as explained by Mr Venter later in the video.
I went through Jagersfontein two years ago and the state of the town really upset me.
Thanks for watching. They have the history and tourist sites as starting points to launch something special.
That building that was burnt in the middle of the town was until about 15 years ago the municipal office
Cheers for that, do you know more about the fire?
Die Checkers trok laai groente en vrugte by Usave af.
Ek verstaan so, Faantjie. Dankie vir die bevestiging!
Bietjie van 'n skok. Ek het 'n ander prentjie in my kop gehad van Jagersfontein. 😞
Groete
its a fire hydrant not a water fountain
Not according to my knowledge. Mr. Venter showed the coin people once used to get water from the fountain.
Eish with the Government we have i doubt. Unless people fix it themselves
Cheers for watching! I appreciate the support!
