Applying the next layer before the first is dry can result in thinner layers- as it’s possible to scrape off some of the previously applied glaze. Also- I mention that so my kids don’t over handle it and remove wet spots with their fingerprints!
All I’ve done is make colored slip with stain. Try putting smooth slip in a container and add powdered stain. Mix, then run through a sieve to keep the stain from creating clumps. I have a bit of that in my video here: How to Mix a Mason Stain to Color a Clay Body for Marble or Agateware th-cam.com/video/eQR226H5DqE/w-d-xo.html
It can be done on leatherhard, bone dry, or even bisque... BUT, if you want do sgraffito, you would find leatherhard the best! (It has to be flexible enough to cut into the claybody a bit!)
Thank you, what happens if you apply the next layer too soon?..
