The first combat operation of the UH-1 was in the service of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. The original designation of HU-1 led to the helicopter's nickname of Huey. In September 1962, the designation was changed to UH-1, but "Huey" remained in common use. Approximately 7,000 UH-1 aircraft saw service in Vietnam. [Wikipedia]
I want to thank everyone who has served in the US Military past and present. I wanted to be a US Navy Seal but couldn't due to my medical condition but my hobby is reading and collecting Vietnam War surplus and I hope one day that I get the chance to ride in a "Huey" and get a sense of what it was like riding in one during the Vietnam War. So with that being said Thank You veterans for your service and Welcome Home.
Funny thing is for me as a U.K. Army Vet is that back in the day going up in a chopper I really didn’t think about enjoying the ride. I was too much focused on getting to the objective and disembarking correctly on the objective and what our immediate drills were on the ground etc. These guys had a ball doing this I’m sure. I did Chinook, Puma mainly.
That sound, of the rotor and the blade slice into the air is edge d in their heart forever.
On the 80s during my childhood, in my state the army national guard had this uh1 huey and I listened to them and saw those all the time. Like it very much even today. God bless the veterans of the unites states

spent several hours in one in '68 to '69 it wasn't for a joy ride
then. it was the REAL DEAL, you always prayed NOT to see red smoke at the LZ

I would've kept them door closed.......just incase.
Not a single Huey came with doors in Vietnam if i remember correctly, so it wouldve been wrong amd not thr whole experience to give these guys.
Planning on buying a Huey in the next 2 years, will so search and rescue, aswell as help the Wild Fire Service Departement out.
