We have to bring these same traditions and cultures back in all other villages of Goa. God bless Divar and keep her away from evil eyes

A lot has changed since this video was made. Was happy to see it as it was in my young days, and was delighted to see some known faces that are no more. May they rest in peace.

I felt nostalgic watching this documentary and especially seeing Fr Assis Dourado. But this was a decade back and a lot has changed since then in Divar and the rest of Goa.

Now Diwadi is full of outsiders and original people come in weekends to take rest. It is cut off from other world . No bridge, totally reliable on ferryboats. So many people lost their life. I lost my father in law as we could not take to hospital in time. We was to stay in Diwadi but shifted in 2003.

The island of DIVAR has got a rich history. The islands of St. Estevam, Divar & Chorao are connected in one way or the other.

Back ground music should have been mandos or some fado with Sonia Shirshat.

Nice documentary - but the etymology of the name "Divar" is wrongly given. The real Konkani name is "Divadi". It comes from "Dweep wadi", which in Sanskrit means "Island settlement". This is the name - not Divali or Devalaya, Common sense would indicate that the name of the village would be much older than any temple or structure built on it. After all, first the settlement has to come, and only later would major structures be built. And once the settlement starts, a name would be given to it.

Diver was originally belonged to Hindu Brahmins n Kshatriyas. Subsequently, majority of them converted to Christianity by Portuguese during their invasion.

My ancestors had 1400 sqmt land on this Divar island, the priest of church harassed my Dad when transferring land to my Grandmom name always mentioning some or other reasons, and force some way to sell our land. Finally when minister Madkaikar of Goa buyed it all things of transferring was done in fraction of time.
I might be sad for not getting land in our family side but due to this priest illogical work they are going to pay in front of lord.

Island film production while making this documentary should have made indepth study on the name Divar like before the Portuguese arrived in which name the island was called an the correct spelling of the name because Portuguese an other European who came to India an other parts of Asia had a habit of naming places after their own people even though the places had their original name, they should have checked whether they had named this place also after any of their people, this I say because there is a surname Dewar in Europe.
