Seven students from Cicely L. Tyson School of Performing Arts are eager to attend Vanguard’s Summerstock sleepaway camp-a musical theater camp focused on diversity, inclusion, and pre-professional training. These students are actively raising funds to make their dream a reality, aiming to cover the costs of this enriching experience.
Vanguard Theater Company, a non-profit dedicated to promoting Diversity, Reciprocity, Education, Activism, and Mentorship (DREAM), collaborates closely with Cicely Tyson School of Performing Arts in East Orange, NJ each year. This partnership ensures that every interested child has the opportunity to participate in this three-week transformational intensive. Summerstock not only nurtures artistic talents and offers pre-collegiate training but also fosters lasting bonds and personal growth.
Thanks to the support of individual donors, Vanguard awards over $50,000 in scholarships for Summerstock every summer, making it possible for students to access these transformative educational experiences. However, these Cicely Tyson students are taking an active role in raising the additional funds needed for them to attend the camp.
On July 19 at 7 PM, at Vanguard Theater, these young performers will be putting on a self-produced cabaret concert to raise funds. They invite their community to come out and support them at this event, however even if you cannot attend, any donations to help support their journey to Summerstock will make a significant difference.
