After disassembling my automatic choke, I found the coil/spring was installed backwards. Something to double check if you are having issues.

I am having trouble figuring out how the hot air choke works on my Carter yf 1 barrel carburetor. Its non functional, or its simply not put together correctly. I need an in depth description on how it works. Think you could make a video? thanks!

Thanks, looks pretty simple. I'm trying to get an old Ford '79 F150 6-cyl/300 CID/1 barrel going while it's cold and below freezing out, but the choke plate is stuck wide open.

Thx for the vid. I wondered if the coil spring loop on my 4100 went on the tab or not. I thought it didn't fit, but I will put it on that way. I have an automatic choke on 289 with Headers.

Mikes Carburetor. You put the small loop inside the coil housing on the small protruding tab on the carburetor side of the choke. I had thought that the loop simply rested on one side of the tab-or pin. You said in the vid to fit the loop on the pin. That is what I will do next.

Is there anyway to easily change out the automatic choke to a manual choke? Like say taking the manual choke off of an old 1100 that is scrap and changing out the automatic choke on a good carb? Sorry ahead of time if this sounds dumb lol

How much tension do you put on the spring?

Twist the thermostat until the choke closes then another 1/8 turn.

I am having trouble with the choke on the 1100 sticking in the closed position. It happened on the the old 1100 that was on and the same is happening with a new one. So I don't believe the problem is with the carb. My question; Could and exhaust leak at the exhaust manifold gasket prevent enough heat to travel through the choke tube to heat the choke thermostat properly?

@@MikesCarburetor Could also be possible that the pipe (which is small, usually made of copper and highly heat conductive) is too far to the point where the air is too cold when it gets to the choke.

there are notches at the top of the choke housing. Can someone please tell me how they are to line up and to what notches and why? Thanks.

@@MikesCarburetor Thanks Mike. Center notch it is. My neighbor, a retired Ford mechanic, moved it and now it idles rough. Choke tube is cool to the touch when hot. Time to check the small hole in the choke housing, clean the choke tube without breaking it off and possibly rebuild the 1100. It ran like a charm before he futzed with it.

Where do you connect the hot air tube on the auto lite carburetor 1100?
