With the release of Zelda & Chill in 2018, Mikel and GameChops broke new ground. The album was met with overwhelmingly positive reactions and paved the path for many more videogame music and lofi crossovers to come. Mikel released a follow-up, Zelda & Chill II, in 2020 - and it was once again a hit. Now, he returns in Zelda & Chill III: a fourteen-track album filled with classics and deep cuts alike from the Legend of Zelda series.
Mikel is a music producer and engineer based in Germany. His sound is characterized by organic grooves and instrumentation, and a minimalist lofi vibe. While the Zelda & Chill series stands as his most popular work, he is also the creator of Poke & Chill, and frequently collaborates with his brother, Jokabi (known for the Chilltendo series).
Zelda & Chill III includes tunes from the GameBoy hand-held Link’s Awakening, the Nintendo 64-era Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, Twilight Princess for GameCube and Wii, and the 2010s’ A Link Between Worlds for 3DS and Breath of the Wild for Nintendo Switch. Composers heard on the album include Koji Kondo, Manaka Kataoka, Yasuaki Iwata, and Toru Minegishi.
“Legend of Lorule" receives a visually stunning music video directed by Mathias Zägel. Shot over two days in Lac de Moiry Switzerland, "Legend of Lorule" features the breathtaking scenery of Oeschinen Lake. Hey guys,
as most of you know this will be my last "& chill" album.
I think you can hear in the songs, that it was not easy to say goodbye, but it still feels like the right time.
4 years ago my first album was released and changed my life. I am still so thankful for this!
It was mix of emotions working on this album, but I am very happy with the outcome.
Of course I will not stop producing music in total. I am actually working on a lot of new, original songs on the go.
This september I quit my apartement and sold nearly all of my stuff to travel the world, with two backpacks, my laptop, headphones and a mini keyboard.
I am loving it so far and producing on the road actually works really well.
Sadly, due to time differences I do not know if I will be able to watch the premiere with you, but hopefully I can.
So again, thank you so much for your support, kind words and everything, this means the world to me.

@@nukiradio I would say that 1 is courage (for the reasons you stated), 2 is power ( for continuing the quality of the first so well) and 3 is wisdom (because it knew to cut things off at the right time before it got stale)

The final entry in an amazing trilogy of playlists. These playlists have done wonders for me over the past 3 years I have known about them. Brought me so much comfort, nostalgia, and was there for me at times when I needed it most. I have spent countless hours playing this while I do ANYTHING in life, and it always makes it better. With Zelda being my favorite game series of all time, the feelings these playlists bring me are overwhelming. Thank you, so much! Mikel, Jokabi, and Helynt are a step above the rest!

I just want to comment on my personal experience with this album.
I taught English in Korea for 2 years, and during those two years I used the zelda and chill albums as background music for the kids. They loved it and got a kick out of me dancing to the music. I got Breath of the Wild after leaving Korea, and being able to recognize so many of the songs from the game after the fact has been super cool.
I've always been so impressed with the originality of the tracks and artwork. I also love that the original feeling of the songs is preserved despite being a lo-fi remix.
Seeing that Zelda and Chill 3 was released literally made my day because it's a combination of both nostalgia and something new.
Thank you for making these albums, we will cherish them!

Thank you for adding a spin on some of my most beloved music. Hard to play the games as much as I did as a kid, I feel like a lot of people my age (24) that played Zelda throughout the last 2 decades feel the same about these mixtapes because it adds a level of modern production that is to be desired. They say you don’t form meaningful memories playing video games. That may be true for the games that are released today, but every one of these songs takes me back to a Temple, getting a sword or just being overwhelmed by the seemingly endless worlds that these games portrayed. Timeless.

I think Hetsu's gift was developing future nostalgia for zelda games. The sheer amount of hours collecting those seeds may have hurt me psychologically, but it created a weird warmth when I listen to music like this.
This series has always been there for me. Through late night homework sessions to chillin with friends, through long car rides and reading. It uplifted me when I felt down, it motivated me when I wasn’t feeling like doing anything. It practically saved my grade and my mood. Thank you Mikel.

I think that in terms of these soundtracks the 1st one would be power, it was the one that started it all with the "Zelda & Chill" series, a powerful moment indeed. The second one would be wisdom, because from the first one he learned how to put together a soundtrack of peoples' liking, this one, the final one, is courage, because I'm pretty sure it took a lot of courage to end it here. There is nothing that could have made this better than seeing this premiere announcement. Poke and Chill was my introduction to lo-fi, and the Zelda and Chill albums have been my comfort music since they came out. I burned both of them onto a cd for car trips. :)

There are entire worlds built into each of these tracks.
Sounds strange, but:
The first part (Welcome Home) makes you feel like you came into the world as a newborn, especially the first seconds.
The last part (credits) on the other hand gives you the feeling that your time is up and you have to leave the world, especially after 38:20
That's why i celebrate your third part the most of it all - even if it's the least popular one though. It deserves more credits! 😀
