The point of trash talk is to get inside the head of the guy youre guarding to either piss them off so they start playing recklessly which leads to them committing more turnovers or to get them angry enough to foul out. That is almost unanimously the case because it works. The problem with that is you can't get in the head of MJ. Pissing him off has the exact opposite effect. That is what makes him special. He plays with more focus and becomes much more calculated. He plays even better than usual. If he takes it personally, its game over. I can't think of a single occasion where anyone got away with trash talking him. He has a mental list of those who slighted him in some way and checks the names off when he shuts them down. He is a psychopathic competitor. Everyone knew, even the coaches, that trash talking him would backfire dramatically so don't do it. The few that did it anyway paid a heavy price for the transgression. Derrick Martin learned that the hard way like the others mentioned in the video.
The ONLY thing worse than talking trash to Michael Jordan during the game, was to talk trash about him after the game. When he caught wind of what someone said about him after a game, he'd just nod and say "alright." The next time he met that player on the court, it was a complete annihilation. Not only was he going to drop 50 points on you, but he was going to remind you of exactly what you said the whole time he was doing it. Not only was he going to remind you, but he was going to remind the whole world about what you said as he's making you look silly. It ended up looking like a high school team taking on the Chicago Bulls. They didn't have a word for it back then, but today they would say Michael was "petty." The man obsessed over every perceived slight that ever came his way, and it fueled him like nothing else. As someone who grew up in Chicago, and being a fan of the Chicago Bulls..... it was the most beautiful thing ever. We KNEW that if someone gave Michael any posterboard material, that it was going to be an amazing show and the Bulls were going to triumph. Only once did Michael fall short...... and that was the year he came out of retirement and wasn't completely in basketball shape. But, Michael being Michael, carried it with him through the entire offseason, and came out the next year and went on 72-10 run straight back into the playoffs, and proceeded to sweep the team, and kicked off the second of two three-peats. All because someone said Michael was no longer Michael.... suggesting he was washed up and done with. Man were they wrong!!!!! Two MVP's, three championships, and three Finals MVP's later, Michael basically said now I've accomplished everything there is to accomplish. Oh, and in regard to when Michael came out of retirement the second time to play for the Washington Wizards, he would have actually been a whole lot better than how he performed, as Ron Artest had accidentally broken one of Michael's ribs during an offseason pickup game which prevented Michael from going through his full preparation that offseason to get back into basketball shape..... but Michael still dropped 51 points his 2nd month back in 2001 (at the age of 38 - two months shy of being 39) against the Charlotte Hornets to avenge the loss they'd had against them just three nights earlier. Even at 38 years old, Michael was still Michael. Unfortunately the Wizards didn't have a good enough roster around him to allow him to get back to the playoffs. So, after two seasons he retired for the third and final time.
"never talk to the black Yisus like that " mesage to the rest of players Predators hunt to eat... MJ wasn't a predator... he was someone who would tear you down, crush you, destroy you physically and mentally... but leave you alive... so that in the following games the other player would fear him... and with that he completed the circle... if a player said something like "MJ can't stop me" or "I'm going to score 30 points with MJ defending me" ... that poor player was left with a permanent fear after that game... most likely Michael would no longer allow the talker to score... While 23 would crush him with 35 or 40 points... That game that Magic Johnson talks about... those who witnessed it say that it was the best basketball game ever played... because you had three of the top 10 playesr of all time (MJ EJ and LB) doing their magic but at a level that is not seen in a normal game... because the 12 best players on the planet were playing and fighting for supremacy... being at that level is already very difficult per se... being the best of all... is beyond understanding.
