    I do the opposite when I look for the asteroids. I look for the ones with lots of holes and hollow areas. I like to build big hangars inside and drill holes to the outside for weapons and solar power. The center doesn't really matter. To quote you: "Just build it". 🙂

    I'm sure that if you were to frame out some large connected rectangular boxes that would represent the maximum extents of the hangers (and whatever else), blueprint it and then project it ahead of one of your ships, it would make it so much easier to manouvre it around to find a starting position and also act as guides when drilling. Hope this helps.

      Or just use GPS's and find the center that way. Watching him place blocks made my head hurt.

    Find midpoint, GPS point 1 + (GPS point 1 - GPS point 2) / 2 with GPS point 1 being the larger of the two for a given coordinate. Do this for each coordinate.

    • @Zenny90

      Dont forget your friend Pythagoras. But yeah, i was confused too why you place all this blocks. Next time you can save a ton of time with GPS 😉

      I was thinking this the whole time, just use GPS markers with you character on each end or point of asteroid then half that set block see how it looks, the block method I understand for getting a decent visual of a possible layout, but super time consuming, GPS could simplify tho process and save materials as well as time, making your videos more productive, but I love the content keep it up, 👍👍👍

  • @nes819
    @nes819 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    When I want to place my stuff in the "middle" I place GPS-markers at the endpoints. Might not be perfect, but I don't have to count 186 blocks. It's also somewhat flexible on the orientation.
    I would somewhat like the base with a horizontal tilt. That whay some sections stand out a bitt while others regress into the stone.

    it would be great if you had a friend to help you could you add escape pods to your ship???
    a couple of other suggestions
    a docking port for a smaller vessel on your ship that's easier to maneuver to move loot from docking ports of your bases
    would also love to see your ship air tight so air bottles are hassle free when piloting or working this inside of your vessel
    some good blue lighting on the inside would look cool too like the lighting you used on your mining ship from earlier/previous series but inside your ship to help see!
    turn that puppy into a proper Cruiser pls!!! it looks super sweet already show us your building finesse!

    • @TheGarageGamer86
      @TheGarageGamer86  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I was thinking of doing a series with my kids, it would be funny running around repairing all the things they destroy and teaching them how to play, could be interesting lol.
      Yeah I am tempted to replace the ship with the Atlas as it's way more capable, but that's part of the charm of this ship, the fact that it is a hobbled together "kinda does everything" type deal 😊✌️
      Maybe I can do a separate video and make it into something nice in creative mode and make a blueprint, though I would need to get permission from the original creator to share it on the workshop 😉

    Little trick for counting blocks in Space Engineers: Put the amount of blocks you want to count as iron plates into your inventory and just place down the normal blocks. (for example: you want to count 157 Blocks? put exactly 157 plates into your inventory.)

  • @Sworn973
    @Sworn973 ปีที่แล้ว

    yes, targeting weapons will only target weapons regardless of focus locked target, focus target will make all weapons target that particular lock instead of each shooting at its own thing.
    By default the game target the closest block near the gun.
    If you have the guns set to target weapons, and you lock in a target that doesn't have a weapon, those guns will just ignore it.
    Hmm, now that you mentioned, if the drone is coming in the ship direction and you destroy, lets say, its power supply, then it will just drift forward until it crashes or despawn. Usually they get diverged from the ship path when they get hit, but the chance still there

    • @TheGarageGamer86
      @TheGarageGamer86  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah with any luck because they are small grid they wont cause that much damage 😎✌️

    Planning the design of a permanent base is necessary. You will look at the results and live with them for the rest of the build.
    Quote:
    "The founding principles of architecture, as described by the Roman writer and engineer Vitruvius in his book De Architectura (On Architecture), were firmitas, utilitas, venustas, which can be translated as solidity, usefulness and beauty."
    In other words: Architecture concerns the things that are difficult or expensive to change later.
    You got this. Using your experience you can get it aligned to your preferences.

    • @SiXiam
      @SiXiam ปีที่แล้ว

      Wouldn't firmitas be better translated into foundation? In the modern building construction sense.

    • @TheGarageGamer86
      @TheGarageGamer86  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah this is exactly how I feel about it. I remember when I was doing my wasteland Garage it took me ages to plan out where to start drilling and I'm glad I did because it ended up exactly in the middle of the valley as well as the landing pads 😁👌

  • @HairyHillman

    You should put a laser antenna and a few cameras on the old base. That way you can dial in and see how it is doing whilst working on the new base.

    I think default targeting for enemies may be to target your weapons. This would concentrate fire on the area of your hydrogen tanks if your weapons are mounted on them.
    I am noob but think that is something to avoid if possible. Could put all hydrogen tanks in one area and armour them up then have weapons away from them.
    Ps: its an irregular asteroid shape not a sphere. Its not important to measure from the ends, if you want the "middle" its only middle would be a centre of mass and that's a gut feel thing. Trust your first instinct. It SHOULD be unique and yours so what you fear may be a mistake be not being central, is the STORY people are here to see.

    • @TheGarageGamer86
      @TheGarageGamer86  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I think you are right, I ended up not putting them on top of the Tanks so hopefully I don't have any issues 😁

  • @armastat
    @armastat ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For easy surveying u can build a long chain of blocks (kilometers long) and use a projector. with two of them u can find the center of an asteroid, mountain. see where a tunnel would come out. etc. then use location bookmarks for distances.

    • @TheGarageGamer86
      @TheGarageGamer86  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I've done this a few times in my last series, mainly to see where a tunnel will end up or where I need to start drilling a tunnel to make it end where I want it to 😎👌

    Hey mate sit back have a rest and a BEER are you planning on putting the same steady pace as you did in Wastelands your planning and execution was such a big hit for me anyways. I really enjoyed the effort you put into the last base which mind you had everything... I am for some reason so very excited. there is nothing better than coming home from a crappy day at work and just chilling out to your vids thank you so very much.. on the orientation of the base I think if you try and make it symmetrical it will be a bit too sterile a little bit of unbalance would be more interesting in my own opinion. not every thing in life is balanced

It's awesome to know that you like the building I do, and I'm glad it make your day better!! If you are a paramedic then you must have some very rough days!! Take care mate 😎👌

    Im sure im way too late to have input but what about having a large shaft/tunnel from the crater on the bottom left (when looking at the face) that splits into 2 hangers? So you would build the long ways and then on top of eachother? You would only need 1 hanger door or 3 to keep extrasafe. So happy i finally caught up!

    • @TheGarageGamer86
      @TheGarageGamer86  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm planning to have the hangers either completely open on both sides or just one side, they will be waaaaaaay to big to have a door, or at least an air tight door. They will probably be of a similar size to my Silo in the Wasteland Survival Series 😊

    My preferred way of finding the center of an asteroid is either setting gps markers on the surface of the asteroid or projecting a long structure through the asteroid with a middle protruding piece in the center of said structure!

  • @icingdeath1295
    @icingdeath1295 ปีที่แล้ว

    It will target weapons regardless if you have a target locked. The button is for them to switch target from the one they chose on their own to the one you chose via target locking.

    • @TheGarageGamer86
      @TheGarageGamer86  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah sometimes having the second PC Running and seeing where I am at from the third person is pretty cool, sadly though you can't really see the ore deposits from inside the asteroid, you can only see them when they are exposed to the surface, I Imagine they did that on purpose haha

  • @AsilarWindsailor
