That book looks fantastic! Great photos and illustrations. Very informative, but a pleasure to leaf through too. What a thrill to get Mother Nature to do the watering. You get extra time to do something else - like reading a book.
So cool, sittin in the green house during that drenching. Need to get you a hammock, like Dave Weiss in his PSGF, so you can chill out in there 😉 Weeding the bonsai is so relaxing, isn’t it?
Happy belated birthday! That took a lot less time than I expected, and I have been so busy I haven't been keeping up with the videos! Enjoy the read, I know I did!
Cool buys at the thrift store. Bog forest is one of your cool forests. One can imagine oneself in the forest sitting under the shade of these trees and just staying cool.
That forest is a treasure for sure even if it temporarily looks a bit worn after the prune as it often do lol. Still on the hunt for willow leaf ficus but I do have what you can call the larger cousin Ficus binnendijkii (think it called Bamboo ficus but not sure) It is one of those "impossible" large leaved trees to bonsai but hey I am in no hurry.
I always get scared when you bring out those blue scissors 🙈 tress looking good as always 😍 random question, my hair is getting pretty long, undecided what to do with it, how do you do your braids/plats please?
@@TheBonsaiZone Oh, I did see that is a way of doing dreads, may suit me better than trying to make idol convo with a stranger in a hair dressers chair. tyvm!
Looks so nice...That pot looks like its maybe 30-36 inches? 12-14 inches deep? Considering trying a forest and I like this size. I'm starting to design my layout and the yamadori that I have available, Spruce and Hemlock, maybe a Western Red Cedar if it looks good with the others...Your moss is so fine and smooth...Ours (PNW) is kind of feathery and olive colored...Your forests are a great inspiration...Thanks...
the more i watch other channels, the more it drives me crazy that so many people are ignoring to create a perfect root base and the top is always pine layer style... it always makes me feel you'd think the same :D you are unique, but somehow it's paradox that your style is so unique, because many ones do it "wrong" (even bonsai is no right or wrong). i like many other channels and trees, but you are always coming to my mind watching them xD are you using a smart phone? if yes, load a weather radar app. one of the best things i did in life^^ you will never be surprised by whats coming. except you like surprises :D
Thanks so much Mango, it drives me crazy too! Some times to the point where I don't like seeing "bonsai" styled bonsai anymore. There are so many more natural styles that a tree can be shaped in and look even more beautiful than some of the current "pop" styles out there. I don't have a smart phone at all, just a land line, I guess I'm old fashion! Thanks!
love this channel, does anyone have any advice on a good bonsai book to read, I'm very new and got my 1st bonsai for father's day recently (I'm in the UK). would love a quality book to learn and be inspired :)🌳
imo bonsaï books are just portfolio of pictures and styles, so you learn very few from them. on a 400 sheet book recently bought i only got one tip.... you'll find awesome intels on growing bonsai on some channels, i deep search youtube since month and found tons of useful infos. it would be irrespectful to post them here i guess. Just wanted to warn you about books.
@@zzredragon yea good point, I think it was a bit overwhelming with so many different videos and trying to find the 'best' advice etc. are there any good forums/discord channel that people go to discus?
@@shanus11 i would recommand not to go on bonsai info first. you need to understand how a plant, a tree is made. for example Auxine is an hormon ( sry im french my english is poor ) that prevent buds from growing. that hormon is on the "very end" of the branch. You cut it, you suppress auxine and buds goes to life. This is an example in the middle of tons of intel you can gather about trees an biology. If you dont focus on bonsai, you'll learn for example that if you put a mature apple of banana near a green ( immature ) tomato, then the tomato will mature because of éthylène hormone. In a few word : Learn how plants / tree lives, you'll master bonsai faster than 1000 books about it ! i cant give you my french forum but you can start with blue sky bonsai on youtube. Ryan neil has some interresting things about bonsais too ;) . and last but not least : in my opinion too many bonsai artist dont try to understand how a tree works. They just scratch the surface of knowledge, i.e : how many of them had a look on Ph/redox of the ground ? that's too bad cause it's exciting, more than that : amazing !
Good pruning work. Both plantings look tidy. Nice updates, too.
That surely was some great rain there in the end.
I'm sure all the plants enjoyed it!

Thrift store bonsai finds are wonderful....your willow leaf ficus looks better each time....I really enjoy the branch structure and trunk..

I have collected so many australian natives. Just need to get that book. I love the bog forest. Great vid as always 😀👍
Nice Magnus, if anyone can grow them, it's you!!!

It sure rained!!!

G'day Rebecca, it was so awesome to see the author comment on the video!!!! Thanks, the book is a real treasure!!!
Still my favorite! Love seeing this forest evolve and change the last few years
Thanks Nathan!!!
Great pruning! I think that rain went full torrential downpour on you, my goodness!

Thanks Tom, I love going to the thrift store!!
Thank you Nigel🌳☺️
Lovely rain footage!
Thanks Elisabeth, it was a nice place to be in the rainstorm!!
Super cool book!!! Great gift!!!
Yes, I was so happy to get the book!!
Glancingly, your Willow Leaf ficus looks like some of the trees in the Australian bonsai book! Relaxing episode. Best to all.
Thanks J!

Yes, I have one of those larger leaf Ficus, I think they will make a good larger bonsai!
We have your North wind. Dropping to 62F/17C tonight in the windy city.
It has gotten very cool here, almost too cool!

I used their stuff before... I had a head full of dreads...
My hair just naturally went all tangled as it grew longer and I didn't brush it!! Thanks Robert, I sure like using the blue scissors!

Hi Nigel, great video. I'm not sure if you watch Jason Hanrahan, last week I finished his book Haiku Dreams and I enjoyed it.
Thanks Lee, sounds like a good book!

Question - Is the Willow Leaf Ficus and the Willow Leaf Fig the same tree? I'm getting differing opinions from on-line inquiries...
I think so, there are so many different Ficus and many are hybrids!
