I live out in the country and it was our old telephone line that was the cause of death to so much electronics over the years. The second we would hear the slightest sound of thunder in the distance we would be rushing to unplug the router and phone cables from the master socket. We were about 7 actual cable miles from our telephone exchange - most of that above ground. Lost count of the amount of BT master sockets we got through, and if we were not quick enough to unplug the router and phone from it 9 times out of 10 we would lose the router and the phone. And on a few occasions things wired to the router via ethernet cables. Yet in all of those years we never had the same issue with our mains electricity supply, which also came for many miles via above ground wires. Thankfully we now have direct fibre to our house, no more copper phone lines at all. So no longer the mad rush to unplug from the master socket every time we heard a distant rumble of thunder.

I'd probably pay to fix it. My thinking is that anything older is more robust than what's available now. Loosing smart services is a bonus, I'd pay just to have that crap removed from my TV.

Back in the "CRT days" we used to say "A $300.00 picture tube would blow thus protecting a 10 cent fuse".

This why I advise surge protection on all electronic devices in the home. Anti-surge plugs and extension leads are cheap. Some even include a warranty to cover surge damage to devices plugged into them.

Sony tvs a pain in the backside with the chip fault, as soon as you see the price of the main boards you know it’s a common fault,
    Cheers Allen 😊

I would pay £120 for my 13 year old 1k 42 inch to be repaired. I love my Sony tv. It has served me so very well. My old Sony crt lasted 20+ years.

We think the same! I always have my faithful electronics fixed, no matter what price.

Fuses are thermal devices so way too slow for semiconductors. Transistors weren't called a three legged fuses for nothing 😅😂

I have a KD-43X8309C new model on purchase, use it most days 12 hours + the last 7 years, apart from the updates slowing it down, a factory reset has it working almost as good a new.
Only ever had an issue after adding additional aps (so guessing ram or processor) were getting over worked

Ugh! My 10-year old Samsung UE50H5000AKXXU is now shedding its LED diffuser/reflector lenses. Don't fancy much the task of working my way through the layers to get to stick them back on :(

Please fix it. I always fix my faithful electronics. No waste, it gets a second life and people need these things. Many people can’t afford any new stuff, so what’s wrong with fixing the old Sony TVs? Does it always have to be about $$$? The economists have ruined this world we live in. We, engineers, keep rebuilding it. How? By fixing and inventing stuff. The end justifies the means, no matter what work and parts need to be acquired. On top of that, the other trade is being supported, I.e. buying parts for repair. So “the wheels keeps spinning”.❤

Allen try putting it in self diagnosis mode.
    On the remote
control press : display, channel 5, volume down, then power on
TV shouldn’t go into self diagnosis mode

Hi Allen, I have a Bravia 49XE0004, It's been a great set, every now and then the picture jumps horizontally for a few minutes, only small jumps, Do I reset to factory settings, get it looked at or buy a new set? Your advice would be appreciated thanks!

both my Sony TVs are old enough for their smart services to be obsolete and non upgradable. I don't care because I only use them as monitors for pc's to watch content.

The apps probably don’t update anymore for the money you would better off selling him or her a telly that you have fix with a year guarantee 😊

𝟰𝟮 with a 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗞. My stepdad had that same job for exactly 𝟭 Year. Just saying re: 🄿🄻🄰🅈 🄼🄸🅂🅃🅈 for me, 🄱🄻🄰🄽🄺🄴🅃. What I've done in the past (and quite proud of) is to check Charity / Goodwill shops - they are on-line now here and grab a fur coat. Yes, the same coat that folks poo-poo now. Really inexpensive (as long as it wasn't Marlene Dietrich's). I would think it would make a 1st class bed for our best friends? And IMO, it gives that critter's 'passing' a purpose.. to keep pets warm. Blaw blaw. Thank you for the video. Cheers from So.Ca.USA 3rd house on the left.
