Their care plans are ok, but you have to pay for the care plan.
At 82 years of age I would have just given her a free TV, I gave my 51 inch plasma TV away as I had just bought a new OLED TV, there are loads of free TV’s on Facebook marketplace.
If you invested in a pair of glass handling suckers, that will make your jobs 1000% safer for large screens and infinitely easier? Not to mention potentially saving the lives of your neighbors. Good Luck. 👍👍
if you scrapped hers and then sold her a new one for £400 then it would be shame on you. but if as what you did was give her a newer and possibly better tv for the same cost of the repairs. Then that's a great thing to do.
I would never buy anything ever from currys, the assistants dont know what they are on about, and try to sell you things you dont want and try to bamboozzle you in factual nonsense. NO WAY
No problem at all. Given she didn't have any attachment to the old one, the only relevant point remaining is that she had a broken TV, and now she's got a working one that's better. Would you be feeling bad if you'd fixed the old one the same day and also upgraded it to LEDs and a better panel while you were at it for free? Of course not! Conversely, would you feel good if you knew there was a better immediate-fix option for around the same money, but didn't tell her? I think the real issue is you are feeling guilty about an old lady paying you money. She's happy, you've done a good deed. Enjoy your Christmas guilt free! 🙂
Retailers have no legal obligation to repair replace or give a refund after the manufacturer’s warranty has expired. You’re talking nonsense. Any decent retailer will offer an extended warranty at the point of sale that maybe an extra one year or three years depending on what they offer. I’m an electrician if you hire me to install let’s say a couple of LED floodlights on your house i garrenty that work for 1 year If any go wrong within that time I will fix the problem free of charge if the lights fail I will replace them free of charge. If they fail or the circuit I installed fails after my warranty expires I will be happy to replace or replace at the full cost . But you must understand that I am not legally responsible for the work after the warranty has expired.
hello , your video not quite correct 1. although richer sounds have a 6 year warranty it isn't on all tvs , some only have 1 or 2 years. 2. when I bought my tv last year I was going to buy a LG qled but the salesman convinced me to pay twice as much to get an oled - wish I had seen your video before I bought it ( I am generally a fan of richer sounds by the way )
Thanks for passing on this
I have two of these TVs in daily use in our bedrooms. I did the smart thing though. Not long after buying them I changed all the capacitors for better quality ones as I had heard about the capacitor problems. Neither has missed a beat since. You did the right thing for your customer and she has a reliable TV to watch over Christmas.
Buy a laptop from Curry's and be expected to pay another £40 to have them make it work properly! Yeah right. I went back the next day and got louder and LOUDER with every effort they made to avoid my satisfaction. My advice? GET LOUD !! Start referring to the Sale of Goods act and quote 'Not fit for purpose' LOUDLY. They soon back down and fix it. I'll never spend another penny in there.
Just reading through the comments, I never realised Richer Sounds were now a national company. I used to go to their shop over London Bridge back in the 80s. They were a good HiFi outlet.
I bought a Panasonic TV from Comet, back in 2010, it's still going. It's a brilliant TV. My parents first bought a colour TV back in 1970. Over the years it was always having to be repaired. It was a BUSH. It finally died in 1982. So they got 12 years from it.
As long as she does't bang her walking stick on the floor, and cries out "Will nobody 'ear the cries of a poor old woman?"... You can assume it's ok Allen !🙂😉👌
Lots of respect to you Allen. Have a geat festive season and enjoy.
That' is good for a TV I cannot believe that TV last for that long
Read a book, Good grief.
Funny, I was just about to say it when you said it yourself... Time was, it seemed like the received wisdom regarding consumer electronics was that buying the extended warranty was "Strictly for the rubes..." Now, more and more, I'm hearing exactly the opposite! Telling, that...
So your never buying a TV then !
You did the right thing. Adjust the new price down a bit if you must--after a few days to sleep on it. But with a home visit and setup, you did well as it is.
As I was watching I was thinking you should provide a loaner over Xmas with an option to buy, and then you went and (kind of) did just that. If the "new" TV is in the same price range as the fix + a 2 year warranty to boot, then it's a win.
Not sure if it is concurrent with your previous videos, but this one has some odd feedback when changing scenes that causes the audio to crack
I sometimes do free tv repairs if the customer is elderly or in dire straights
@@reacey they already get their money for nothing and their chicks for free
i would check what that warranty actually covers. panny wouldn't fix my oled screen 3 years into a 5 year warranty. in fact the wording states they don't have to fix anything if they don't want to!
If "Our independent engineers" isn't an oxymoron in strictly grammatical terms it certainly makes my consumer logic instincts twitch
Nice thing to do Allen To reset the EEPROM manually here are the steps (Do this at your own risk). I have done this many times before and had success. 1. Identify the EEPROM IC (24CXX) 2. Identify the Flash memory IC (25LXX) 3. Identify on the EEPROM IC the SDA and VCC pins 4. Connect a jumper across the SDA and VCC pins 5. Power ON the TV and hold for 20-25 sec 6. Break the jumper 7. Power OFF the TV Powering ON the TV again should show a reset EEPROM. GOOD LUCK!!
Load of rubbish. I had a 9 Series Samsung TV & around summer this year i had a problem with the motherboard i called Domestic & General y& they sent oit Champmans. When the repair came he said always by Samsung has they are the best TVs & D&G replaced it with one of Samsungs flagship models for 2024. I never buy anything from Curry's, as the aftersales customer service is disgusting & 2. If your investing in a TV. Take out a extended warranty.
Gift it to the old dear as it's christmas and throw in a five year warranty because she shouldn't buy one without as you always say , all the best for the season hope you have a good one
Nothing to feel bad about but since your an upcoming TH-cam star then donate her the new TV or never go and get the money! 1 good turn deserves another!
Also she desperately needed an upgrade!
Can only agree, you did the correct thing,Nice one.
No problem with your offer, but the free publicity for gifting an 82 year old a TV (with warranty) for xmas will give you happy feels and probably drive more custom. Its also one less to keep stored away so frees up some space.
Enjoy your videos very much especially since I live in the US where good repairable tvs are frequently confined to the trash. In my area of about 100K people, no shop does TV repair. As much as I enjoy your video, I have to turn my volume up to about 75%. I can then hear you ok but when a TH-cam commercial starts, it scares my dogs and irritates my cat because it is so loud. So if you can, please increase the audio gain on your uploads. Thank you
Made complete financial sense for the customer, same price to fix, for a new tv is a great compromise to an end of life product. No doubt Alan will probs gift it or sell at a significantly reduced price.
Sometimes you've got to weigh up what's best for all involved & you made the right call Allen 👍🏻
You know I see so many comments that people talk about with LG and Samsung TVs dying, and it seems to be the same people who also lament Sony televisions for being so much more costly and yet they can't seem to make the connection. Sony does have their problems now and again, but generally speaking on the whole you pay more up front for a Sony because it's going to last even the oleds are going to last and not have problems.
I worked as a Trainee, and then TV Engineer from 1972 to 1986. The company was Rediffusion which was taken over by Granada TV in the mid-1980s. I have watched several TV Repair Channels on here, but yours Allen is a real 'eye-opener' 😉😃on what the repair trade is having to put up with, well, what's left of 'The TV Repair Trade' anyway 🙄 I absolutely agree with all you say about Richer Sounds & John Lewis, I ONLY buy my TVs from RS I just cannot be bothered to even attempt to repair my own TV these days, even though my career in electronics has spanned over 40+ years (I'm 70 now). Currently, I have a Sony which is still under RS warranty, are you surprised? 😀 It is shocking to hear about your experience with Samsung, a prestigious brand at one point in time, but now, not quite so prestigious perhaps. Like you, I also have my reservations regarding OLED technology and image retention or "screen burn". I continue to avoid OLED TVs notwithstanding the mantra that the 'Store Reps' rattle off about refresh rates and screen protection, you and I know differently. It's very refreshing to hear you admit at times "I just can't fix this damn thing" as I am a little bored watching these 'SuperTechs' producing edited videos of wonderful repairs on equipment which the customer was told, cannot be fixed. Yeah right, you try paying a mortgage and bring up two kids on your (main) income stream from doing that, in your dreams right! 😅
I bought a LG 55 inch oled tv 9 years ago, after 2 years it had good morning Britain logo burnt in, i contacted curry's where i bought it they said burn in was not covered in the warranty, i contacted LG they told me burn in was not covered, we kept it as a second tv for another 5 years and pixels kept dropping out, got in touch with LG not interested out of warranty, i still have this tv sitting in my spare room if anyone from LG wants to see.
Rest easy fella, its better she has a tv from you than from Currys. Set her tv up with TH-cam, have her subscribe to see your repair mastery and challenges. Did you try rubbing bacon on the eprom? 🤔
This man has a voice for radio!
Ach, it’s Christmas time Allen. Should have gave her another tv and said “Merry Christmas.” ( unless she’s had her winter fuel allowance ) 😂😂😂😂 Nah joking aside, well done. One pensioner has a tv for her Christmas viewing. 👍👍👍👍
Good man.
Great advice. Also, what a well behaved cat.
Hello I think myself she's 82 years I would of gave her the tv its Christmas she's 82 but that's me what I would have done I mean 82 poor woman it's just a tv I've gave 2 tvs away just recently
USA one dollar bills?
If she is happy with the tv you set up for her, you shouldn't feel bad about it as long as everyone happy about the tv
Give it to her as a gift I would.
mine is a Samsung LE40R87BD
think this is the tv I have. not used for some time its been under my PC desk but funny as just tried it today and its all fine still and nice picture
You said to be careful with OLEDs, but what do you think of QNED that comes with LG tvs. Do they last longer safer to buy ?
I do it all the time,I always have spare tv sets in stock,it's either wait X days/weeks the part to arrive,or for a couple of extra money, you get a used one the same day.
