Thank you for sharing this and for such a detailed and complete tutorial. I have a number of chairs I've picked up at garage sales with broken caned seats or no seats at all. Now I can turn them into usable chairs.
I'm so thankful to of found your channel! I've had my great great grandmother's kitchen chairs and I didn't want to put one holes in the chair past canning. Now I know I wasn't wrong. You're instructions are lovely, thank you.
I just want to send out a HUGE THANK YOU! I am a furniture refinisher and I have a chair with the same kind of seat that had broken caning. I have never done upholstery before, mind you. But, this chair I have went so well with a vanity I refinished and I just had to try. I did it!!! All due to your video. I watched it I’ll bet 10 times AND I played the video, (pausing when necessary or playing back when needed) while I was upholstering my chair! It’s not perfect, but really good!! I LOVE it! Thank you SO much for sharing your process!!! I am so grateful!!!
Thanks so much for the clear, step by step instructions. You make this seem very doable and inspire confidence, and it is a pleasure to watch you, a master of your craft, at work.
This is an excellent video of converting cane to upholstery. I bought 6 cane chairs at a garage sale, 4 of which need repairing. I really like this method rather than replacing the cane.
Thank you for this! I have an antique bench that is beautiful but the caning is all busted out and it's way too expensive to fix so I was just going to rip out the caning and cover it in canvas but I love this idea because it felt wrong to pull out all that caning.
Lovely! Just what I needed to learn. I’m interested in knowing why you didn’t use a lightweight interfacing to add a bit of strength and weight to that thin fabric...maybe you needed the stretch for the curves?
@BroadwayUpholsterySchool thanks for the lesson. It turned out nice. I have 2 questions...I understand you leaving the caning. But why not cut a 1/4 plywood disc, upholster that and then attach it? (Trying to learn) My other question is why use a hot glue gun instead of fabric glue?
Thank God for your videos I have some ford and johnson chairs that someone removes the caning from and used plywood for the seats i am now trying to restore them back to an upholstered look that ford and johnson had in most of their chairs can you tell me what brand of staples you used i have an eze tc-04r staple gun
Your video is awesome. Thank you so much. Does this same set of instructions work for a curved bottom caned chair? Do you just not stretch the webbing drum tight in the direction it curves?

Thanks for this excellent tutorial. I have several cane bottom chairs that need a redo. This is just what I was looking for.
Really great
Your voice is very soothing, thank you for your expertise🙌
Man, I wish I would have had this video before I cut all the cane out if my 6 dining chairs.
Thank you Kevin for another great video!
Such a good video. Learnt do much. Your an awesome teacher. 👍

What do I do if there are armrests with spindles? How do I apply the webbing ACROSS the chair?
That chair is so wobbly... shouldn't it have been knocked apart and reglued first?

is it ok to put muslin over cotton if my fabric is lightweight

Would canvas work as well as burlap?
The seat on your chair is flat. The chair I want to cover have a curved bottom. What do I need to do differently?
What is the white stuff under he foam?
I guess it coton lol
You are a true artisan.
It's cotton batting
Do you have to use all these layers?
What are your thoughts on using double welt to trim this out?
can you tell me what size/guage staples you use?
Industry standard is eight gauge series. Metric 806 (6mm) 810 (10mm) 814 (14mm)
That chair is in desperate need of a reglue!
Excellent tutorial, sir. 🙏🏼
