    Great video. Thank you! I'm soon picking up a new-to-me e-Niro and my plans include lots of camping in it.

    Nice thanks! I am getting my car tomorrow and doing the NC500 again - this will be handy! (utility mode for the win) lol until the Ioniq 5 comes out which will be the game changer

    If you remove the back seat base cushion will the seats fold flat? So far I have figured out how to pop the back seat cushion up to dislodge it but I can't seem to get it fully out as I can't tell how it is connected back near the seatbelts. They are made to pop out for cleaning so I thought this may let the seats fold more flat giving a bit more headroom for sleeping.

    Second question. I am trying car camping. I just fit but the kona is short. Have you ever heard of any product. That can attach to back with hatch open. Allowing a few extra cm of length.

    Not sure if you still monitor question for this old video, I just bought new kona and I cannot activate utility mode while car is plugged in charging. Does you older version allow it?

    Great video. considering the energy consumption, Is it possible to attach a coolbox during the day and also at night?

    • @READYSTEADYCHARGE
      @READYSTEADYCHARGE  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That would be possible. I think most coolers that plug into the 12V outlet are around 50W. The Kona EV's 12V outlet has a maximum of 180W. When the vehicle is in Utility Mode, the main battery would charge the 12V so it's going to be really hard to drain the 12V battery running a 50W cooler. The Kona EV has a 6.4kWh of energy for every 10% of battery. So 10% battery can supply 50W for 128 hours. The only thing I would keep in mind is that there is only one 12V outlet in the Kona EV which is located in the front of the cabin. I think some coolers might not have a long enough cable to reach the front while it is in the trunk so you might need a 12V outlet extension cord.

    Awesome! Have you tried sleeping on the side (i.e not on your back)? Does it work given the slight incline from the middle?

    • @READYSTEADYCHARGE
      @READYSTEADYCHARGE  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did try sleeping on the side and it works but I prefer to sleep on my back. I do wish the Kona did not have that incline though. But as long as you have an air mattress or memory foam it shouldn't be a problem.

    I don't get why all the reviews of the Utility mode don't test if you can turn off all the screens while keeping the ac running, like with Tesla. Isn't it important to make sure you attract as little suspicion as possible if you're sleeping in a car?

  • @victorseal9047
    @victorseal9047 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you keep the car fully switched on to run the climate control ? Thank you.

    • @READYSTEADYCHARGE
      @READYSTEADYCHARGE  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I keep the vehicle on utility mode where the vehicle is fully on but cannot be driven. I will do a video at some point on how much energy is used overnight camping. It isn't a lot of energy for one night.

    but the kona ev backseats don't fold flat.. do you need to build a platform?

    • @READYSTEADYCHARGE
      @READYSTEADYCHARGE  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I find that if I have a mattress that can cushion enough, it feels fine even if the backseats don't fold flat.

    • @chris220480
      @chris220480 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My 3 bedroom house uses around 12 kWh of electricity over 24hours, so although I haven’t tried it yet, I’m confident that an overnight sleep won’t drain the battery 😁

    Do you find the slanted sits to be annoying?

    • @READYSTEADYCHARGE
      @READYSTEADYCHARGE  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I sleep with my head towards the front it isn't as bad. With a good enough mattress, I feel okay with the slant. But I do prefer for it not to have that slope. I tried to sleep with my head towards the tailgate and that's where the slant makes it more uncomfortable.

  • @brettski74

    Climate control always requires the high voltage battery. The only thing related to climate control that runs on 12V is the blower, since it's much the same as the blower in any ICE car. The compressor for your AC/heat pump or resistive heating if that's what you have - they all require the high voltage DC supply. The 12V battery does not have anywhere near the energy stored to run those for any extended length of time. The blower does not provide any heating, cooling or humidity control. Those require running either the compressor for your AC/heat pump or resistive heating elements and those are powered from the high voltage supply.

    FYI, your the third Asian with a TH-cam channel focusing on EVs. A definite trend. One guy in Norway and one guy in Scotland. A Scottish Asian. That is a new one for me. Since I live in Canada you’re channel is especially relevant. Just bought a 2021 Kona. Very good quality.

    Your not camping. Let's get this clear your sleeping in your car . Which in many countries is an offence.
    You can only sleep in a car in a designated parking area and then its to rest so you can complete your journey.
    You are not camping.

      How do you know what he does and why do you care. Are you the camping police. By the way the law has real crimes to deal with then people closing their eyes in their car for a night sleep.
