    Had a 1st gen Renault Kangoo for 12 years. We absolutely loved it. Having experenced all its pro's and con's I can say this:
    1) Under-roof storage boxes are pretty useless aside for stuffing things that you're going to forget there. And in the Kangoo they were side-mounted. In this Berlingo I see it's taking the whole width, thus it will impede tall loads. The only (very) useful roof storage is the open shelf over the windscreen 'cause it very readily reacheable and very handy for mixed items like rags, maps, etc.
    2) The open-up single tailgate is indeed handy when raining but it's very cumbersome when the car is parked closed to a rear wall or even just another car. The window-only opening is a very minor solution - you cannot reach something on the bottom of the boot through it. The REAL useful alternative are the trad "van-like", side opening two-doors. They're light, they don't take too much extra space behind the car and, above all, you can just slightly open one while checking that your cargo is not bowling out - something I experienced more than once. This is expecially true if you have a dog (which I have): when you open the door, the beast tends to jump out and if you have an up-opening tailgate, he's out on the road before you even had the time to fully open the door.
    Unfortunately, MPV's in versions intended to be used as "family cars" (like the Berlingo in this review) tend to be sold without a two-rear-doors oprion, maybe 'cause it's deemed "too van-like" and not pretty. Who cares? Nowadays, fashion conscious people wouldn't buy an MPV anyway, preferring a deeply unpractical and frankly stupid SUV.
    Having said that, over the Berlingo I'd prefer a Renault Kangoo (which has the rear two-doors option beside the genius "foldable" roof rails) or a VW Caddy (with rear two-doors option too). I know, they're not EV's. Yet.

      ... but you can sit on the back of the car underneath a big Berlingo tailgate in the drizzle and change out of your wellies and back into your shoes ;-)

However if there’s some else in the vehicle while you are enjoying that moment of pleasure (with the big rear door protecting you from the rain), it could get too cold for them.. it’s a single space vehicle and heat is lost quickly in such a situation. We own a small van of this kind, and it is a dilemma, yes. I would like to try now one with the two door option at the rear, to have that experience too.

    I've have a Berlingo xtr, and I love it. Practically of the scale great for my work, camping trips ect.Saving my pennies for this beauty.👍

    What a great review. I bought one of the last of the diesel XTR Berlingo's in 2021 as I'm not ready to go over to an electric car quite yet (next time!) All the practicalities of an mpv, with sliding doors, massive range, great mpg and reasonable price (I paid about £22k ish for a new 130hp diesel xtr). Love it. So practical and makes me feel relaxed when driving it. Mine looks just like this E version except for the front grill. Price and range of the new E version put me off so I've remained old school for now.

    Had one of the old versions of Berlingo always regretted it's going was such useful vehicle. This electric looks good but price is a downside !

    I Currently have the berlingo 1.6 HDi XTR Multispace (14 plate) and love it, but it has been used as a camper to carry large loads for garden projects, house projects. The current version allows you to remove the rear seat which makes it really useful, but current version does not give a fully flat load space...interesting to see the eberlingo as at some point we are going to be forced into adopting these....As I normally purchase cars about 3 years old, I am concerned about battery life and possible replacement battery costs, which to be honest when you buy a petrol / diesel car you never think of an expensive engine change when buying.....there is that unknown with EV cars.

    Just over a yr into ownership of 1.5 d 60 mpg urban 79 mpg on a longer run perfect vehicle great brakes smooth ride every review points out the slippy storage areas cured by a £5 roll of non slip material

    Superb review. The good thing is that you take all the time to explain things and go through all the features. I realy love this car. At the moment I am driving a C5 Aircross and I want to change it for a ë-Berlingo so many thanks for this review.

    For me, Berlingo wins in every categorie: space, practicality, comfort, what matter for 2 kids family most. Build quality is not so good, but I take this in account. Sliding doors are the best in tight spaces, big trunk is awesome! We have Berlingo models for 15 years now (diesel models, 90HP and 100HP, also the latest model 2018), and I don't think, we will go to another model soon.

    My first electric vehicle was a 2004 registered Citroen Berlingo Electrique which had lead acid batteries with a range of about 50 miles. It had a small fuel tank for running the heater. I loved it as it was a good introduction to driving electric, which I have been doing ever since.

    Have a 10y old Berlingo. Love it. Put bikes + family + pets into the car. Would not swap it for any other car. Except a more modern one ...

    Had a diesel Berlingo just shy of 10 yrs bought because I actually "desired" that utilitarian practicality - yet also incredible comfort. I wonder iff the Vauxhall version has its suspension 'tuned' to brand expectations and loses the Citroen plushness. Only mention as otherwise this vehicle would be about which was the nearest dealer. With 75kwh instead of 50, and keeping a similar price (or just a little more expensive), this'd be all but irresistable.

      The one thing I would say about a Vauxhall, and baring in mind that Stellantis may have corrected this but the seats on a Vauxhall were notorious for causing back issues.
      Top Gear many moons ago did some independent research where they called in an osteopath to try out Vauxhall seats. She said that they were awful. Peugeot ranked as the best.

    Been driving diesel Berlingo Multispaces for 16 years. I love the practicality. I have a "modutop", and I would be very reluctant to go back to not having one. My only concerns are range and price. I think I will wait for the next model.

      I had one. It had been specced up for a Citroen manager so had every single option that the could fit. The one big downside was the 90bhp engine. The 1.6 is a very versatile engine & 150 hp versions were fitted to some Volvos.
      In the end I sold it because the lack of power always drive me nuts.
      It would be interesting to see how much actual power the electric version has on the road.

      @@hughmarcus1 I guess I am more boring than you, because at 90bhp it is the second most powerful car I have ever owned (the most was a 100 bhp). If the electric one has 90-100 bhp (equivalent), decent "pull" through the mid-speeds and up hills, a range of 300+ miles, and was more like £25k, then I'd be saving up. Otherwise I will wait for the next edition ;-)
      You are right about the 1.6 HDi engine, though - my father had it in a similar vintage Picassa to my Berlingo - and his had 120 bhp. Main reason was he had a variable-vane turbo, and the same vintage Berlingo only had a fixed vane turbo. I think there has been a pattern of Citroen giving the Berlingo less attractive engines to prevent leaking too many sales from more expensive Picassa/C4 models. (I think the lowest power car I ever owned was a 2cv, but it was still great fun and pretty practical)

    Hi room in the boot was what we need I’m disabled we have decided to get one I can’t drive my husband is disabled too we need to put a wheel chair in boot plus luggage hubby test drives and it ticked our boxes, especially after trying many other vehicles thanks for you test drive,Peter teresa

    I currently own a 2019 Citroen Berlingo 1.2 petrol which has all the xtras one of the best cars I’ve owned,
    Electric maybe the future but the range on the e version needs to be longer range so will keep my petrol version for the foreseeable future.

    An absolute unit of a car. A shame they didn't make a bigger battery option, They could take some boot space and gave the choice to the consumer. 50 kWh in a car with a shape that isn't aerodynamic is not going to give a lot of range.

    Your channel deserves more viewers, another excellent and detailed review. Where I live in rural France it seems that half the people have these kind of cars, the Renault Kangoo is also very popular. I have driven my neighbours 10 year old diesel Berlingo when we took her dog to the vet, the space in them is amazing and although we don’t get many camels around here I have seen the chasse (hunt) use them for moving a pack of dogs around. The real problem of course is price, and Mr. Tavares laid out his stall earlier this week moaning that they (Stellantis) don’t want the EV transition to happen too fast as it would kill their profits and result in poorer quality...Mmm, me thinks the CEO doth protest too much. The fact is that they run their EV products down the same production lines as their ICE cars, unlike VW Group for example who have decided to convert entire plants to EV manufacture only, which is how you learn how to make EVs profitably. One wonders what a future Citroen Berlingo designed as an EV from the ground up would look like. Even more spacious and practical I would imagine. But with the diesel and 1.2 Petrol cars in the same trim coming in £5,000 to £8,000 cheaper I doubt we will see many on the road. People who buy these cars have a practical mindset, and that includes the price.

      On the other hand: practical people will probably realize the savings per kilometer and in maintenance. Also: many cities will not allow any combustion engines anymore in a few years.

    It'll continue to sell in electric form for the same reasons it did in ICE form. It's a very practical vehicle for those whom have kids, dogs or lots of clobber to transport around. The running costs will of course be less in EV form, which for many will broaden it's appeal further still.....

    👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Thank you for such a great review. I am a carer and driver for a blind disabled person, l am also disabled. Every 3 years l/we spend hours trawling through TH-cam reviews looking at reviews of cars before sending for brochures, visiting showrooms and eventually selecting a car from the mobility scheme. We live 90 minutes from the nearest city which is small and only has a few dealerships. Every review usually gives you 10-15 minutes of torque, horse power, break power guff, that comes straight off the manufacturer website, with 10 minutes of exterior trim, wheels, bumpers blah, blah, blah......then maybe if your lucky 2 minutes of the things most drivers want to know. Most of us can't afford a ferrari and apart from a single occupant with a bento box, who are they for? So l hate it when EVERY reviewer tells me how unsporty my family vehicle is. How it doesn't handle like an R10 and how it's just a safe reliable unexciting family/ couple vehicle. How it's going to take me all of 10 seconds to get up to 60mph as l drive to Tescos. But you Sir are a total breath of fresh air and l wish l had found your channel sooner. You just told me EVERYTHING l wanted to know. You didn't use calculus to tell me l might get approximately 3.67 suitcases in the boot, you showed me. You answered the questions that most people want to know. Where can l put my drink, are my keys going to rattle around and annoy me, where can l put my bag, are the seats comfy if I'm not a size 10, are there things that will start to annoy me after the first week etc etc. A PROPER review of a car AT LAST. You will definitely get a sub and l can say hand on heart your content is the only review that l actually found ENTERTAINING as well as informative out of all 57 car reviews l have trawled through this month.     A very fair review. The brakes do take some getting used to and even so can catch you out with an odd unplanned sudden stop. The space is fantastic as is the driving experience. I have the diesel version and have considered moving on to an EV version however the limited range is a deal breaker for ma. As the main car for long 500 mile + journeys the current electric offering simply isnt enough. I cant see why they dont make a bigger battery version or even a hybrid option.

    I very much agree with the point about car manufacturers and "trend-following". After decades of motoring, I have settled on my ideal household 2-car combination - a large but fast estate car for practicality, and a four-seat soft-top for leisure use - so when I come to change cars at some point in the future, I would like to have a choice of EV that would let me stay with that arrangement. Unfortunately, the manufacturers have decided that nobody wants these.
    I didn't realise how left-field my choices were until EVs came along.
    And don't mention EVs to the missus, who is wondering what will be around to substitute for her MX5.

    Practical car. They were very popular 15 years ago. Camping places full of them on holiday. Good to have them EV. Maybe people appreciate them again in stead of SUV that really don't hold much for their size.

    I run a small gardening business (local range), but have a 3 time a month round trip to Bournemouth (collect my son). Whilst there I do a 2/3 hr run or cycle. Am test driving one on this trip at the weekend. Do you think it's realistic. What charging apps/stations would you recommend?

      The issue is most people think you have to charge up to full all the time, whereas just stopping for a “splash-n-dash” to just add a few miles of charge is a more efficient way. But you don’t say where you are driving FROM to Bournemouth. If it’s Aberdeen, perhaps not…..
      Download ZapMap or A Better Route Planner as they are very good. They’ll tell you what chargers are in operation too. I use ZapMap lots. Ionity is expensive, but reliable and usually plentiful. She’ll Recharge is easy to use, but just delivers a 50kW charge and most stations only have 1 charger. To summarise, have a look on the ZapMap website and plot your usual route to Bournemouth and see what ones are on your route.

    I have a campervan kit from Amdro, which is a small company in North Wales. It fits in the boot until needed. Then I got a diesel heater, leisure battery and converter. From the outside it looks like the normal Berlingo. Inside it is a great wee mini campervan that melts in with other vehicles and gives me the original miles per gallon figures

    The practicality and sheer size of the Berlingo boot are such that you could go to your local independent Electrical appliance retailer, buy a damn good freezer & probably transport home in your Berlingo without too much problem.

    In the past I've owned a 2009 Berlingo XTR and currently we own a 2016 Peugeot Partner and a 2010 Renault Kangoo. So you see I quite like the MPV concept.
    Diesel used to be the sensible choice and I liked my 2009 diesel. My 2016 has adblue and government regulations have ruined the Diesel engine. I only do motorway work but still get issues with dpf. Adblue injectors fail at 70k. I'd argue a petrol one makes most sense currently.

    Honestly, the original M49 Berlingo is better looking than the current 'chunky' look. Even the 'Facelifted' M59 was a bit of a step back in the looks with those tall headlights. That they moved the middle rail for the sliding doors from behind the rear window is also a big downer. My M49 is getting old, and it's probably time to end its misery in a not too far future, but the range is a bit disappointing, and the chunky look is rather off-putting to me. I hope my Berlingo can last until Citröen can get the design right. Right now, I'd rather track down a 1996 Berlingo Electrique...
    It may not have any range, but at least it looks right!
    (I have driven Citröen all my life, started with the GS Pallas - that was fun! - then the CX - what a cruiser - the BX Estate - met an untimely death by dumptruck, and finally 2 x Berlingo... Both Red. )
    In my M49, I don't have the overhead bins(may have been an option? ) but in the fixtures with the nets up under the roof there are metal brackets for an indoor roof rack. (I made my own with telescoping handles and M8 bolts. Wonderful for transporting my fishing rods and hiking staves)
    I wonder if this eBerlingo has those brackets?

    I'm wanting it for a motility car so the important factors are dog cage and wheelchair (manual) in the back. The Citroen C4 Spacetourer is perfect, no rattling about.

Certainly I couldn't see accommodating a dog cage being a problem, and many Berlingo's are converted to accommodate wheelchairs, so I wouldn't see an issue with this either. It may be worth checking with Motability if they have a preferred conversion company and asking the question before committing however. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

    Excellent and fair review. I agree about the brakes they dont always do it but pick their moment for maximum embarrassment. I have the diesel auto version and it is truly excellent for the money. I would love to have the EV version but for two problems, first is the cost premium is just too much. Secondly we use the Berlingo for trips to the south and that is a long drive (8 hours) with such a short range and an incomplete charging infrastructure it simply isnt practical. We have as a second car the eC4 which has the same underpinnings and it is without doubt the easiest car I have driven, quiet, smooth and very comfortable. The range in summer is more than enough for local travel and in winter whilst considerably less range, it still manages two to three days before charging. Double the range at least and drop the price to the same as the diesel version and I will off to the dealers to get one.

    Not bad but some basic tech info would have been good such as what kind of heating it has, does the AC insist on turning itself on like it does on the Dispatch? What type of power steering does it have? What kind of brake booster.. a peek under the bonnet would have been nice.

    Driving Miss Daisy uses Berlingos that have been converted into WAVs (Wheelchair Available Vehicle). It looks as if this vehicle would work for us. Part of the floor has to be cut out to allow for the wheelchair ramp, so I guess it depends on how long the battery is…….

    ATM I own Caddy Maxi (110kW) - at the future (3-5years) I will need to upgrade. What is a huge nono is a range of the new EVs (Berlingo, Partner, Kangaroo) - I use it as a family car, so time to time I go to Alps (600km trip), weekly basis I am going to my cottage (180km). Theoretical range is nice, but if I calculate winter conditions + some cargo outside, I need to charge even during my trip to my cottage (work + cottage means 210km). Reccomendation for batery use is between 20-80% - so I have to stick with combustion engines quite longer (future candidates are Caddy Maxi 5gen., Toyota Proace Verso - same platform as Berlingo, and pretty interesting is new bigger Hyundai Staria). If I have to pay such amount of money, Staria seems better use for me.

    Hi Bryan, super video as usual. Always liked these cars/vans, but you didn't mention Toyota's Proace! Shame on you. :). I don't know if they have an EV option, but if not then I'm sure it's not far away. All I need is room for me and my powerchair, and I'm off! I'll have the steel wheels please.     Probably our next car. We have the diesel and have a hoist and can carry an electric scooter without folding and with the rear seats up.. They remodelled our old C4 so it was simply not high enough for the hoist.

    Great review, gave up waiting on one of these but may look again in a few years when we want to replace the petrol MPV. What on earth is going on with that front bumper paint though, it’s a different colour to the rest of the car!

      Citroen has reconfigured the range since we filmed this video, so I’d advise you check with your local dealer for the most up to date information on availability. I think the Flair is now available as a 7 seater for 2022 though.

    Can I ask if the 3 rear seats are " full size width each"?
    I ask as my 19 plate Berlingo van has 3 seats in the front, but the 2 passenger seats are very narrow (I guess to keep the van narrowish)

      They appeared to be, yes. They all were the same size on the Flair XTR trim we tested.

    I really like these van based mpv's and own an older one but i have to say the lack of clever design in the rear compared to regular mpv's is a let down. No flat floor, no storage and no kind of luxuries.

    I test drove one of these a few weeks ago. Great vehicle but two things let it down, range due to smaller than ideal battery and efficiency. The boot is too big and the rear seats don't slide, so room in the rear isn't good if you're taller than 5f8. Sliding rear seats and larger battery this would be a winner. Oh one other issue, it has a very silly cruise/speed limiter control, they should add to the steering wheel like the VX version.

      I agree. A sliding middle bench would make a big difference. As would a 200+ mile range. Still a decent car mind you.

    I have a Citroen Berlingo which is converted to be a two berth “crampervan”. I would be interested in an electric version - but not at these prices. Too expensive for what it is. I could buy a good full size second hand motorhome for this price. And after the cost of conversion - becomes ridiculous.

      Hopefully in a few years long range EV vans hit the market, and these cars can depreciate a lot. Some EVs can loose up to 20k worth in one or two years !

      I prefer vans and van based cars and I'm ready to buy electric but the cost and lack of choice puts me off for now.
      There is a Chinese mpv version of the Nissan env200 that i would buy if they bring it to the UK.

      @@marks-0-0 - there a number of quality electric cars produced in China. And they could be sold in the U.K. at the right sort of prices. But they will need to establish dealer and support networks. Something that the Chinese are not good at.

    MPV's are probably like Marmite? However I like their practicality. I would be the first in the line if Skoda (or another manufacturer) made an electric version of the (Tardis like) Roomster with a 200+ mile range. The Berlingo is a physically larger vehicle than I would really want to own and it would need a bigger range for me to consider buying one.

      Currently have a Roomster and it suits us. Previously had two Nissan Tinos which were also good for storage in terms of the vehicle size. Too many EVs looking alike at the moment so let's hope that is starting to change.

    In the Pro's and Con's you mention that the Berlingo is not the cheapest family EV - which is it then? The Nissan is a lot more expensive imho.The Twin siblings from Peugeot and Vauxhall/Opel should be comparable, right?

      It’s more of a reference to the likes of the MG ZS EV and how the crossover is now seen as the family car genre.

      No, you didn’t miss it Ross, I completely forgot about it as I got carried away on storage! One USB-A in the front to connect your phone to the infotainment, nothing in the rear. Although I suspect there may be in the XL model like there is in the larger e-SpaceTourer, but can’t say for certain.

      Considering the demographic this vehicle is aimed at, the almost lack of USBs, as you mentioned, particularly in the back, would most likely cause an tantrum or two with most kids these days.

    I was hoping you'd mention the windows on the sliding doors. Some reviewers have had vehicles with power windows and other have windows which are hinged at the front.
    Watching this review a year after it was made shows how quickly EV reviews can seem dated, when there is mention of the government financial incentive which fickle Chancellors can change or cut before your review has even been edited

      Hi @Frantz, I am assuming you are referring to the part where I discuss the second row of seats? Ok, well, when we filmed this, the eBerlingo could be had as a five seater in both trim levels, the Feel and Flair XTR. If you went for the Feel trim level, the second row of seats (as in the ones behind driver and front passenger) would come as a bench seat that was split in a 60/40 configuration like most hatchbacks have. The Flair XTR that we had on test has three individual seats on that row that can be adjusted separate to each other and each has an ISOFIX point. The Feel only has ISOFIX points on the outer two seats on that row (not in the middle). I hope that makes sense!
      Just as an aside, since we filmed that, Citroen have now announced that the Flair XTR can now be had with the 7 seat configuration, so that is an amendment to what I said in the video.       Not fully, but remember there is a door in each side providing good access to the rear.

    Good review but a bit small, i prefer the connect personally.
    I'm not sure sliding doors are innovative 🤔 been about for decades as has the folding passenger seat, the connect had that 18 years ago 😏

      It’s not that they’re innovative (the Toyota Space Cruiser had them back in the early ‘80s after all) it’s just the fact that they are retained for the passenger car and they make a lot of sense in this application. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

    The orange bits... just WHY?! Electric parking brake, horrible, detatched feeling, unsafe, unreliable, expensive to repair. Not-proper gear selector, the E-NV got the gear selector spot on. Shame as the previous berlingo the B9 was a brilliant vehicle , until about 2015 when they put the horrible touch screen on them .

    What is it with these manufacturers continuing to have unnecessary grilles on Ev's.... If its not needed than why is it there? It's hideous & totally spoils the look of the car.
    Notwithstanding the hideous grille (aka plastic fill-in panel) it seems that Citroed, despite being a main stream car manufacturer for decades, would of fathomed out by now how to paint the bumper panel the same colour as the car🙄. So, when the first owner comes to sell it on it immediately raises the suspicion that it has been involved in a front-end shunt😲
    How to turn-off a potential purchaser.... Apply nonsensical, hideously polarising orange "features" 🙄, probably attractive to 1% of the potential purchasers.
    It wouldn't look out of place on Trumpton😂
    Ideal for carting your sheep to market, carriage of hay bails to the cow field perhaps.
    Good for school/mcdonalds/tip/Airport runs I suppose.
    Designed & built by schoolkids.... for schoolkids😁
    HOW MUCH 😳😬😲... £32k... they're having a laugh 🤣

      First of all, thank you for watching the video and taking the time to comment.
      The videos grew in length and it was a tough decision that we made to do that. Our thought is that we try to cover everything that a potential purchaser may wish to know about the car. As an ex-car salesman, that is usually a lot! Anyway, we know that some people may tune out, and it will cost us some views, but we try to be thorough and hopefully cover everything that you may wish to know. In the big bad world of TH-cam it is difficult to stand out amongst many “reviewers” and so we try to be a bit different to the others. We started putting chapters into them to allow people to skip to relevant parts if they need to. As it is just me writing, filming and editing, I have to say, I don’t have the time to do two videos at the moment.

      You avoid being just a fifteen-minute ad on behalf of the manufacturer; many 'reviews' are simply a bunch of B-roll while the presenter reads out the manufacturer's marketing release. It's refreshing to see honest reviews for a change delivered honestly and without hype...

    So as an EV it's crap, and that's because the range is so woeful the rest is not bad at all, but come on 174 miles more like 130 miles on a good day, on a very cold day you'd be lucky to get 90-95 miles real world.
