    Hey! Thank you very much for sharing your video. Even as a mechanic with years of experience, just seeing what is in there is all I need. Years ago you needed to at the least buy the Haynes or Chilton's services manual. Now you just need to find the right channel on TH-cam. Videos like this are the new Alldata. Thanks again and take care!

      You're welcome, and I know what you mean, I still have some of those repair manuals in my book shelf on different vehicles.

    Okay I'm confused how does removing the bolts in the front allow the seats to be flipped forward from the rear? I'm looking at the front underneath the rear seats and I see the bolts, but since those bolts are in the front how would they prevent the seat from lifting forward if they're not removed? Mine is a 98.

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The seats have a latch in the back. Flip the the seat forward and remove the bolts and left it out.

    2000 Toyota rav 4 gas gate shows dead empty tank is tank is pulled to the neck is it the float or the gauge

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would check the fuse r loose wire, then the float. The other thing it could be is the fuel stepper motor.

      HI, did you end up finding the whole fuel pump assembly? i'm getting an error P0171. I also have a 98 and all i see are separated parts as well?? I'm patiently searching for the whole assembly, since I don't know what all parts need to be changed. I'm having a go at replacing it myself. :)

    How to tested the fuel pump see it works or no ! And how you service the pump if needed to replace it ?

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pull it out and put it in water to be safe and then jump it with a 12v battery to see if it pumps.

      @@LonnieJohnson1 Thank you very much Sir!!!! My 1998 Rav4 has 340,000 miles and I'd like to drive it forever. Sometimes is overwhelming when I spend $800 in timing belt then couple months later something else breaks/goes wrong LOL

    Does this applies also on 2005 Toyota Isis?? I mean my fuel gauge doesn't work. if I full the tank the gauge stuck on half tank.
    I need to open my fuel pump but I don't know where is the pump located??

    I successfully replaced my fuel pump but now I have fuel leaking from the fuel line. The hard line that has the bolt. I made sure to put the little washers back the way they came off but it still leaks. What can I do?

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it tight enough? Did you cross thread it?

    • @4gn0stic1
      @4gn0stic1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LonnieJohnson1 I cranked it down pretty tight. No cross threading, it went in real easy and comes out easy once you break the threads.

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You might have to change the washer or turn it over.

    Hey, I have exactly the same car as this one (even same colors he he)...I bought it with 96k on it and now have 215K Do I need to replace fuel pump/filter? I don't really fill any weakness at this point. I did scheduled repairs at 200K and the mechanic i went to told me not to bother with the pump. And do I understand comments correctly - it says that fuel filter is in different location from what you show here in this video? Do I need to replace filter?
    Thanks in advance! Nice to see same car!

    Hi Lonnie my wife drives 2002 rave4 edge and having fuel gauge problem. if I full the tank the gauge stuck on half tank and shows empty while still fuel is nearly quarter tank.
    any hints to fix this problem, Thanks

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +L Naidu Pull the fuel pump out of the tank and it should be connected to your float system. See if the float is stuck; you can also move the float up and down while watching the fuel gauge to see if it is working properly.

    My 2002 RAV4 just won't start. I filled up my tank with gas and when I jump back in and tried to start it, it won't start. The engine cranks but won't turn over. I'm thinking it's the fuel pump. Do you have to bring down the tank to do the fuel pump? Or is it the same style as the one in the video.

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure, but you shouldn't have to drop the tank. You should be able to get to it from the top. Hopefully Toyota didn't make the newer models more difficult. You can also remove the air filter and spray WD-40 or starting fluid in the intake to see it starts or fires. If it fires or starts, then you're not getting any fuel.

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It has a float, just make sure it's not stuck. You can move the float by hand and watch the fuel gauge to see if it works.

    • @365thankyoujesus

      LonnieJohnson1 the fuel gauge didn't work

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check the fuses and if that's not the problem then you can check the sending unit at the float by using a meter. The last thing I would look at is the stepper motor that's in the dash cluster.

  • @Dicofol1
    @Dicofol1 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a 2003 Rav4 that started having a fuel gauge problem yesterday. Anyone know if I can get to my sending unit/float this way? I will have to check. Otherwise I'm looking at dropping the exhaust and drive shaft to get the tank out before I can access anything

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The sending unit is in with the fuel pump. I would check that first. It could also be your stepper motor in the dash.

    • @weirdowatcherljh2
      @weirdowatcherljh2 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I had to order a sending unit but will have it Monday. It seems my Rav4 has 2 sending units, one on each side, a primary and a secondary. I have the primary ordered. I think the other is available through Toyota only! Did not know about a stepper motor! Process of elimination at this point since I am not sure how to test nor have the tools to do so!

    • @LonnieJohnson1
      @LonnieJohnson1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a lot for just the fuel gauge. Your right, process of elimination is all you can do. With all the different electrical sensors and parts now days. I think they are trying to make it impossible for a person to be able to work on their own vehicle. Good luck. Stepper motor will be last resort.

      After taking the clamp off my hose just pulled right off. Your hose must have been rusted on. Just twist it with a pair of pliers to break it free and it should pull right off.
