I reckon we are just typical kiwis, pretty fun to park up in the snow, you can always guarntee the place to yourselves when you head into the bad weather as well.
I remember always enjoying snow in our alps as a kid. Every year with taboggans etc. We used to get snow in ChCh every year or two… it hasn’t properly snowed in ChCh for over 10 years…
the snow and cold is becoming a bit of a distant memory aye... We are back down in Canterbury hoping for some hoar frosts and snow... Looking a bit grim right now.
I'm happy you got your show after so many disappointments...as my old granny used to say "SNOW IS MOTHER NATURE'S PIXIE DUST...SHE SPRINKLE'S IT ABOUT AND EVERYTHING LOOKS MAGICAL"...safe travels , look forward to your next post!!.❤️🇳🇿
Yay snow! Weve found most of the snow in southland comes in autumn and spring... so you might get another chance. It always snows in September once lambing starts!
Finally! You guys were like me when I first went to live in Britain. Hanging out for my first snow fall. I saw surprisingly little in the seven years I lived there.
it's pretty cool experiencing the snow, especially when your a kid, If it wasn't for the kids I still would have been keen to get the snow, but likely wouldn't have spent as much time outside with them especially once the melt starts and it's all getting so wet.
Nice that you can clamber through that bush without having to worry about ticks, or snakes. Awesome you finally got snow, looked pretty. I love snow! Great episode.
Toby had 2 ticks bitten into him at one time when we were at camp, one of them was very red around where the tick was attached, horrible little critters. Stoked as to get the snow, another tick in another box. Hope your travels are going well.
@NomadLifeKiwi apparently they need to be on you for 24hours before you need to worry, that's what we got told at camp, just check your body every day. Once it was removed it cleared up real quick.
@@leopardsgowild Oh yeah, if you manage to get it out properly, should be no problem,. We tried to pluck it out but left the head in, went to urgent care, but by the time we got there it had fallen out and she did nothing. Then 5 days later he got a rash, so they treated him immediately. It was probably on him for less than an hour! We don't realise how lucky we are at home.I've only ever seen ticks on cows.
Love the joy in the kids. It's always the little things that brings us the most joy. I liked the logo with the mountains in it the best. And your snowman, Arie, was great. When I was in my 60 still, I would make a snowman each year. At 76 it is a little hard. Love you guys from NE Ohio.
Cheers mate, the kids will never forget the camping in the snow ❄️ and making a snow man, hopefully we get another snow storm when we get back on the mountains in mid spring... hope things aren't to hot in Ohio...
So good to finally get the decent snow fall. Loved seeing Toby roll the giant snowball into the river. It looks like another brief cold snap this week and then probably back to the sub tropical West Coast weather for you guys. Hopefully you'll get a chance to come back up through the Murchison way later in the year.
its actually a really good spot to get snowed it because it's 800m above sea level, We were glad we were able to drive out later that day though, the snow turned to slush pretty quick
Wow, that wall across the fault-line is very cool...low tech, but it works! When many think of NZ, they surely don't add a blizzard to their description...amazing! Snows a great thing...but not when it goes on for almost 6 months sometimes! LOL Take good care and go make a snowman and a few snow angels!! Bruce and Otis
We are a very active earth quake area in New Zealand, i've experienced a few good jolts in my time, nothing destructive thankfully, one of the positives of being somewhere with earth quakes is thermal hot springs... I think we'd all be over snowif it lasted all winter, It's pretty novel to have snow low in New Zealand, our mountains are so dramatic that many of them hold snow all throughout the summer as well on the tops, we really need a true southerly to drop snow low, and generally its gone in a day or 2, till the next storm which could be up to 6 weeks away for low areas.
So pleased you got that experience ❄️ You will need to head back there to walk Lake Daniels and to do the Saint James Walkway. Right now you're probably looking at an awesome Westcoast sunset.
I was keen to try and run the St James in a day just over 60km I think, But with the weather, and my recent running I was feeling unprepared which is not a good way to start an ultra... Hope ya'll are well.
Awesome, takes me back to our caravan holidays round the south Island as a kid, I'm nearly 60 and they're still some of my fondest memories so it's a great thing you're doing for your kids, it made me love camping as an adult. I stopped for lunch a while ago just where you were camped on my motorbike, it's a great spot. There are some hot springs not far from there too, can't remember which way though.
Oh the hot springs I think got buried Fter the Kaikoura earthquake but there is the hot pools at Marian I think it's called... it's a nice little doc camp for a night or 2 with the stream.
ha ha, extra clothing for everyone... One thing is we are so much warmer now we are down on the coast which is pretty nice, noticed a bunch of pollen on the truck today, spring is in the air.
The snow looked awesome and those snowmen were just the best 😀 looking forward to seeing how you guys get on down the West Coast. The logo's looked great, should include you all in the water somehow and Soph on her bike 👍
Cheers mate, I think I have the logo I want now, but the style I want might be a challenge... I need a good graphics person... Glad you guys got some snow as well, it makes everything pretty pretty.
Hi mate did you manage to find the small thermal pools beside the river ? They used to be a good size ,glad our lovely island gave you snow in the Lewis it's a great place , cheers , shaneo, Nelson, 👍😊
No we did have a look for them, apparently the Kaikoura Earthquake had them buried under a slip, the road has completely changed through where the springs were. Loved the Lewis pass, reminded me a bit of the Milford road heading up the Eglington valley.
ha ha, just reverse the experience of being in the North and not having the chance to be in the snow lol... I don't think we'd sign up for it to many times, once it's melting its a lot of annoying work as it all comes inside on shoes...
@@leopardsgowild yer if doesn't melt fast U need to clear snow round your cars n driveway otherwise turns to ice over night n Ur stuck!!! We learnt hard way 🤦🤣. Though great way get day off work lol So Ur very lucky it melted fast 👍🤣.
Don't know what we do without the diesel heater. It's great having a 4x4 means we can always ditch the caravan and get somewhere safe, warm n dry if we need to.
I mean, the weather we are getting at the moment would likely get you stuck in and around central and higher passes, good fun, pity I live at sea level.
Ha ha we're a unique breed... us kiwis love the snow, generally it's restricted to the mountains here, rarely falls in the towns so it's pretty novel... been so much warmer being at the beach again just 1hr away it's about 14degrees overnight about 5
Yay!! It’s so lovely being in the snow! So glad you got some! 🎉
It was so awesome definitely a tick in the box for us
Wahoo snow at last. Those logos are awesome guys it will be hard to choose. Stay stay dry and have fun. Team Kawerau
THanks team Kawerau, hope ya'll are well and as always dry, are those lakes lowering at all yet?
No there still very high.We think it will take a while to lower.
YAY FOR SNOW!!!😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
It looks so pretty, we love it.
Finally snow. Congrats it was well worth waiting it out👍
mate we seriously thought it was going to go over us, so glad we got it.
Thank you for making these videos 😊
Your so welcome, so nice for us to look back on. Thanks for watching.
At last you got the snow. Well done. Great video. Loved watching the kids having fun. Stay safe 🤗🤗
Thanks it sure was a blast, lots of fun, but a long wait

What an awesome vid, thanks for sharing. Safe travels.

Yea man was stoked to see it start coming down thick n fast.

Yea those Sept snow dumps can be pretty massive might park somewhere on the Haast pass area in Sept if timing works. Good luck with ya move next week
Great sisters you got there guys.
