First time I heard this a few years ago, I remember I genuinely died on the spot. I didn't mentally comprehend what the fuck I had just heard. I wish I could hear it again for the first time.

If you are considering reacting to more of Jacob's music, "All Night Long" and "Moon River" won Grammys for arranging (as did "Flintstones"). To date he has 9 Grammy nominations and 5 wins.

Fun fact: The Flintstones theme is based on a time-honored set of changes called ‘Rhythm Changes’ (aka the chord changes to ‘I Got Rhythm’) which was a popular template for innumerable songs in the bebop era.
As usual, JC starts with rhythm changes then goes quantum leaps past the original structure to the outer stratosphere and beyond. This was the first JC song I ever heard… and as many times as I’ve heard it since, I still haven’t unravelled that final chord change resolve.

To those of us lucky enough to have been a Jacob fan for a while it is always such a treat to see someones first time reaction. You didn't have to say anything at the end because your delightful reactions during the song kind of said it all. Oh and yeah Jacob is acknowledged as a musical prodigy. You should definitely react to some of his other material and I'm gonna subscribe just to see if you do. Jacob is a treasure. I saw some suggestions below (all good). I'm going to recommend one of my favs: Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough - which highlights what an amazing pianist Jacob is. But give it a try. You'll see. th-cam.com/video/KC3GrzoQG9U/w-d-xo.html

Your reaction says it better than any these words will, this is one of his best (we all have about 20 we think are his best in the Collier fanbase lol)
I always sit there at the end, just like you did here, firing off expletives. Then I come back to a thought, separate from the musical reasons its great:
He took a song from maybe the least rock and roll place, that isn't cool, that isn't having a comeback or anything - and made it (to people in a completely different future generation) one of the coolest songs they have ever heard - with just the theme song as ammo, it's a flex - the strength of which - cannot be overstated lol
(No shade to The Flintstones - but it isn't like, a cult classic or a hipster favourite or anything. It broke a lot of ground for animation, its interesting as a bit of history etc but unknown to most most people born after 2000 I would have thought)
Takes it - disregards all of that, because he likes the theme song and want to do a version of it - and it fucking RIPS like a chainsaw.
I wonder how many extra stank faces, that The Flintstones would never gotten, it has now made happen. When I first saw it and he puts the sunglasses on, I nearly stood up and applauded.

You literally just said everything i wanted to say but better! :D :D He's just on a level of his own in terms of musicianship and harmonizing.

The BBC recently did a documentary feature on Jacob Collier. It runs a little over an hour and gives a great overview of his musical career so far. When people like Quincy Jones and Herbie Hancock are completely blown away after hearing Jacob for the first time, you know he is a once in a generation talent! th-cam.com/video/ERvd5QjupSU/w-d-xo.html

After you have checked out All Night Long video and Moon River video (I prefer the video version personally, which is slightly different than the album version), you should definitely check out his iHarmU series of videos, where fans send him phone videos of themselves singing and/or playing music for him to “Jacob-ize”. The iHarmU videos really give some perspective on just how effortless this all is for him. Truly stunning.
    Great reaction sir!
