      sometimes you need to put competition aside, and let the love of making and eating pizza take over
      afterall, they all make pizza passionetly, for hating someone else for owning a shop which rivals you is showing you are not making pizza passionately.
      these trio are true pizza makers, and as a man living in israel i am crying daily that i cant get a slice of each of these people's pizza.

    I've been watching vice for some years now and have gone through a number of shows and presenters, after following along the pizza show I have to say that hands down, Frank is one of the best fits as a presenter. Sincere, friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about what he is documenting.

    • @deker0

      Probably was talking about California Pizza Kitchen, which he did not try in the beginning of the video.

    • @YourMajesty143
      @YourMajesty143 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Except the pizza he spit out in the beginning was ordered from a big chain in NY. He was in his house with 4 local big shot pizza chefs and his grandmother even came over. He was definitely in the East Coast at that point in the video. It wouldn't be until the middle of the video that he goes to Silicon Valley in the West Coast. When he was talking about how Seoul's pizza reminded him of the West Coast (19:20), he was referring to the Asian Style pizza (15:53) that he tried at Zume's factory -- which he actually compliments at 15:47. In both those instances, there is discussion on how the pizza is made sweeter than classic pizza (at 15:56 and at 19:26). That's what makes Asian Style distinct, and is likely what Frank was trying to highlight.
      Edit: Added a few more timestamps in parentheses.

    I'm not sure this message will ever get to these awesome pizza makers, but still. I'm glad there are still people like you and I'm glad big companies get big shares like this in the cooking industry. Having to eat blank meals (and I'm not talking only about pizza here) only makes it sweeter when you go to a local place, like a family Pizza Shop and enjoy their heavenly pizza. I'm from Romania and this happens to us too, but more and more local family businesses started appearing and growing because we can taste the difference. I'd rather pay 20$ for a slice of pizza instead of 5$, when I can definitely taste the difference.

    Hey guys, we're (insert startup name), and we're one of 5 million tech startups that exist around the world today. We're so forward-thinking with our products and services that we decided we need to "revolutionize" the workplace too, because coming up with a useful product or service and selling it, just like any other business, isn't enough these days. At (insert startup name) we believe in people not profit, so unlike other workplaces we have a "zen" room where our "people" can "unwind" whenever they want! We also have a pool table and, YOU GUESSED IT!, a beer fridge. How else are we supposed to dupe these fuckers into staying here 24/7? Don't sweat it though, we're also really humanistic and value our customers as people too, so we decided to name them according to various racial stereotypes. Have you met our "techie average customer" who makes up 48% of the marketplace? Don't worry, he's more than just a statistic to us. He's a person and his name is "Lang"? He's Asian btw. Have you seen our amazing robots?! We don't like the idea of treating anything over here like a tool to be used (see above, humanistic workplace), so we decided to name them. CAUSE THEY'RE PEOPLE TOO! They do most of the legwork for the company and are constantly slaving away making pizzas, so we decided to give them Mexican names like "Juan" and "Pepe". At (insert startup name) we don't believe in work, we believe in doing what you love while "pushing the boundaries" of technology. One pizza at a time.

It all just seems phony and sheltered, and yet pretentious at the same time. I was half expecting her to show Frank the "cry room" next for when her employees are just having a bad day. I had a pizzeria with my brother in a college town. Everything fresh, done right, with a recipe from the original owner of the pizzeria in the spot we had, decades old. Dining room packed every weekend, fairly busy most nights. Our pizza was a little less expensive than the chains, and we delivered in a 15 mile radius. I eventually left, and my brother had to close. Even the guy down the street who had been there for over 30 years eventually closed, he was the most popular place in town, he'd have a line down the block when the bars closed. As I drove through town last, Domino's and Papa John's delivery cars all over the place. Applebee's and Chili's were always packed to the gills. I guess people go for what's familiar instead of what's better.

    I do pizza consulting and advise against full automation, I'm hoping customers care enough to avoid places that embrace robots over people. You can't replace the love and care real humans put into food. Robots are for the fast food chains who don't give AF.

    From one location to the next and delivered same time, say it takes 15 mins to each delivery . You've got 15+ ovens in each foodtruck. @ $10 a pie. Your only at $40/hr.
    Minus all those expenses ( technologies cost and human labour)
    Doesnt seem like much,.. the math doesnt seem to add up.

    I had Papa John's ONCE, it was so bad, never again, I had Domino's a few times but just because it was close, my boss would order it for us. Little Caesar's is not horrible but again I have only had it a few times. I ate Pizza Hut at least once a week as a teen but only because they had arcade games back in the 70s. I finally gave up and learned how to make it at home...as a matter of fact I have ziplocks of dough, tubs of home made sauce and fresh motz in the fridge right now to give as a house warming gift tomorrow. A gas oven and a pizza stone are a must LOL!
