I'm a native New Yorker who lives in Hell's Kitchen, and I'm also a licensed New York City sightseeing guide. Tom is by far the most informed tour guide I have ever encountered. The breadth and depth of his knowledge is incredible, and he's entertaining and smart to boot. Keep up the amazing work, Tom!
I am a native New Yorker. Spent most of my life in the Lower East Side. Tom has made me aware of so much more, weaving a richer historic and cultural tapestry. Thanks, Tom. Your enthusiasm and talent shines through!
My grandmother worked in a sweatshop in the LES when she 1st emigrated to the U.S. and I've hardly spent any time in that neighborhood. Maybe next month when I'm in the city.
Just wanted you to know, went to the ER with a massive panic attack tonight (love you covid/not) and I watched your latest video(right here) and it helped calm me down. I want you to know, I love your videos so much. Funny, intelligent and informative You make a difference in life Keep up the good work man
I hope you are feeling better. I used to get panic attacks from a stressful teaching job. I started taking Celexa and have never had one since. Take care.
I'm SO glad people have told you you look like Penn Badgley before because that's exactly what I've thought since I first saw a video of yours, lol. Thank you so much for these tours, can't wait to be back in the city and get a tour from you!
23:40 ya' think there's a scooter at the bottom of the East River? Speaking of river, *River* Phoenix brother of Summer, Liberty, Rain and Joaquin. great names It's also how they name rivers and lakes in Florida, reversed.
That carousel is from Idora Park in Youngstown Ohio, my home town and I grew up 2 miles from the park, I rode that carousel hundreds of times as a kid and have visited it there in DUMBO, you do a great job...
Yes, once upon a time in America was such an awesome movie I'd say it's the Godfather for Jews, thanks for educating me about a city I still love and miss. Sending you muggy Sunshine from Florida
I just watched a bunch of your videos. Love your humor and knowledge! I saw you on Action Kid's channel. You are so entertaining! Just a delight to watch. Thank you for these videos. So enjoyable.
*OMG! Beautiful video, Tom!* I love it. Great to learn about your eating habits too! These Sick Plugs effects and editing are killing me! LOL Fantastic job, guys! Greetings from the EU. (Btw. I watched your DUMBO tour with ActionKid a long time ago as well!!)
This is second video of you that I'm watchin.. after the Brooklyn bridge one..became a fan of all the info u give us about every little thing around..u got another subscriber bro ❤
Tom you give the most excellent tours with insight , wit and flawless filming ! If you want to work but I usually share your videos with my group called growing up in Brooklyn on Facebook
Cooool, as always funny - I mean Phil is funny, right :) noticing details, I like the beginning (OK, I like the whole video, especially spots where and when you're hungry) of the video with that nice wall behind you, nice colour and patina. You should mentioned Tappan ZEE, I always liked that name, "River is driving a boat under a Tappan Zee bridge" ;) And BTW, you have that real New Yorker's spirit. Cheers, man!
Great video! I'm from Brooklyn/BedStuy To see how Dumbo has grown is amazing. I remember back in the day, it wasn't so appealing. The Promenade is my favorite spot to sit and chill. Thanks for sharing and I love how you always give us some history.
It's always great to watch and listen to you, Tom. Always informative, always insightful. Keep up the great work. Stay safe. Peace from Liverpool, England. (I have been to NYC twice by the way, first time for 3 nights In May 2000, then I returned in 2004 and spent 5 nights) Anyway, take care mate. 🎸 👍
Both the *Tompson* (water meter) 1:40 and *Gair* (corrugated cardboard) 4:10 buildings were early examples of reinforced concrete construction. Concrete taking the load of the building and the steel rebars holding it together similiar to our bones and muscles. The *Empire Store* Warehouses 7:11 with its arched openings were the home of "King Coffee" John Arbuckle, the country's major importer, producer and distributor of Ariosa and Yuban roasted coffee (green coffee beans coated with sugar and air roasted). Tomd, be wary of touching the Empire building as it's made of schist. *Eskimo Pie* was originally called ... the "I-scream bar". 😱 As in "I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream". th-cam.com/video/BC5HmhejMi8/w-d-xo.html Tom's tours be ed-u-mac-ka-sun-i-el.
Love this ! I’ve lived in Brooklyn and have stomped on all those grounds, but, I still need a map with a dotted line of where you’re walking. I can listen to you while I walk. I love the history part of the whole thing. Yes, I’d pay for that 😉
Wow! Loved your video and subscribed!! Love history and living here for over 25 years you really made getting to know about DUMBO really enjoyable! Thank you! Hreading to watch more of your videos. Laura
When you mentioned Gossip Girl, Dan Humphrey was considered poor for living in DUMBO (3 bedroom loft) compared to his other friends who lived on the UES. How true is it, as the show was from 2008-2012? Thanks
I'm the night doorman at the first building to go residential in DUMBO, originally named Fulton's Landing. David Walentas is the billionaire developer who bought it (Robert Gair #7, you'll have to do research to figure out the modern-day address) in 1985 for $2.5 million. It contains 124 apartments, the cheapest of which would probably list for $1.5 million today. He and his wife Jane (RIP!) were attending an event one day and Mr. Walentas overheard one of the longtime artist/residents refer to the neighborhood as D.U.M.B.O. and it stuck.
Yea, agree that tom's humor goes over the pointy heads of das funky lady and kid, but *Phil's good* . No camera, no video. The talented guy may also be a comedian using the 'tight five' rountine reference 23:00 so if there was any current 'cultural reference' he probably would have picked up on it. Thank you, Tom, for this good one! I`m looking forward to your Highline-tour. In my opinion, one of the most innovative park-concepts in the world. Cheers from Cologne.
Hi Tom. I'm glad you mentioned John Arbuckle. He was from Pittsburgh. He invented a method to roast coffee beans. Coffee beans would get stale so they couldn't be ground and roasted. Roasted beans lasted longer so they could be transported and not get stale. Arbuckle moved to Brooklyn to build a larger facility. His house is still in Brooklyn. He also got involved in sugar refining and I think he started Domino Sugar. He got very rich and Arbuckle Coffee was available all over the country. You can buy Arbuckle Coffee made from the original recipie in supper markets where the beans can be ground to your taste. He may be burned in Greenwood Cemetery. There was a wonderful building Arbuckle Building in Pittsburgh where he made his coffee but it was sadly torn down in the 1940s. I've seen engravings and pictures of it You can add this to when you do the tour again. John Roebling was also from Pittsburgh . He invented wire rope which was used in suspension bridges at a factory in a suburb je found called Saxonburg.
22:37 Kids name River, is after actor River Phoenix. Or that's what I think. But why am I watching this? I'll never be able to visit NYC. YT is broken for recommending this for me. Awesome tour either way.
Copper becomes green ( red 2 green ) because of natural oxidation dixit Lady Liberty ! The colour is called :( vert de gris !) In french ! Excellent tour guide you are ! Slow down the narrative a bit , i have to rewind the video 2 catch the words sometimes!
I luv Bananarama that’s one sick unplugged line you belted out Tom 😎 can you give us a video tour of Brooklyn neighbourhood Moonstruck movie? luv your tours 👍
Seems nicely chill and empty again for once. Brought my dog over and could actually walk the Brooklyn Bridge. Sucks for the tourism-based businesses especially, but at the same time, the neighborhood was getting choked by the influx. Needs a more sustainable approach. You probably already said that though.
A great tour, Tom! I'm a native New Yorker and really didn't know half those facts. Thanks, Phil for keeping up with Tom's pace and interesting and humorous stories. You're both cute!
I've been enjoying this video about Dumbo and I was looking forward to you pointing out Barge Music as you passed it after Ample Hills and the Fulton Ferry landing. It's right there! And it has a very interesting history! Next time be sure to include it! I'm a musician and I have performed on it and I knew the woman who started it.
love these tours. tom makes them entertaining. i swear he should have his own tv show, maybe a travel show.
I agree Tom should have his own show
Yes!!!
this is his show lol
I'm a native New Yorker who lives in Hell's Kitchen, and I'm also a licensed New York City sightseeing guide. Tom is by far the most informed tour guide I have ever encountered. NY history teacher ...you really know your city’s history 👏🏾👍🏽
You’re right, I lived in NYC for more than 20 years, and I didn’t know much about NYC’s history like he does.
I am a native New Yorker. Spent most of my life in the Lower East Side. Tom has made me aware of so much more, weaving a richer historic and cultural tapestry. Thanks, Tom. Your enthusiasm and talent shines through!

Heyy brotha stay safe take it easy don't worry about things so much your family need you everything would work it self out don't worry about nothing..
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that! Take care of yourself and I’m glad I could help in some little way!
Tom you're still the best !!!
Omg what you said about people switching the names between their dogs and kids is so true 😂😂😂
On each of David Walentas' shirts is stitched the words "No guts" on his left sleeve and "no glory" on his right.
How many 'sick plugs' can Tom fit into one video?! Love your humour & knowledge as always 😊 Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
😂😂😂😂 love it!
I learn so much from you! We're coming to New York next summer..will look you up!
Wow, this was a good one🔥

Ive never seen the tide that low! Anne Hathaway lived in the clocktower penthouse years ago.
The best travel guy.
You should have some custom NYC "merch" available, Tom! Preferably some prints 🗽
Another super duper half hour from the Legend that is Tomd...
Hey Tom...so excited to see this tour of DUMBO! Awesome...
These bridges now-a-days are so magnificent. Inspiring. Like . . . a guarantee that life is getting better for EVERYONE.
I lived there in the '90's. Drank a lot of beer at "Between the Bridges". Thank you for the CORRECT acronym break-down of D.U.M.B.O..
What's up Tom! A tour of East Flatbush would be great! Take care, you're the man.
Great videos.. I’ve always wanted to visit nyc and now I feel like I am!
Hi Tom! Love watching your videos. Miss my city so much.

Great tour Tom! I know it’s gonna be a good one when you turn your hat to the back lol 🔥
I used to park my car by DUMBO back in the 80’s, it was like a ghost town. Amazing to see what it has become.
Yes, once upon a time in America was such an awesome movie I'd say it's the Godfather for Jews, thanks for educating me about a city I still love and miss. Sending you muggy Sunshine from Florida

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! That was a fun little tour, the 26 minutes went fast - it felt only 10 minutes went by.

He is also in YOU & lived in a cheap apartment
Thanks Tom!! Are you a guitar player?
Yeah, I am actually... No big deal!
I'm from Kentucky and we have a roebling bridge across the Ohio River in Cincinnati. It's practically identical, except smaller.
I'm the night doorman at the first building to go residential in DUMBO, originally named Fulton's Landing. First time on your channel, and liked it very much. Very informative! Thank you & wish you the best! 👏🏼🙋🏻✨⭐️💫🌟🎊
I get a kick out of Sarah, ActionKid, and Phil not having a clue as to some of Tom's cultural references. It's a Cruel Cruel summer.
Me too! He's hilarious 😅
Dumbo🆗tom💲💲💲💲🆒
He has something special: a glib sense of humor....not corny. Wish Tom had more vids but in time......

Hiya Tom... another cool video mate. Nice one.
Thanks so much! You should do a video of the skyline from Brooklyn 👍👍👍
