Cool trick for Saheeli, you can copy a creature _during_ your opponent's end step, so that it carries over to your turn, and Saheeli can copy it again after your untap step for two copies of a card to attack with
Gishath has finally a reached a critical mass of good dinosaurs with LCI where I feel like it may be possible to run Kaheera as a companion, which is exciting in itself.
i feel like i’d still prefer to run smth like shared animosity or vanquisher’s banner, a 6 mana investment for a +1/+1 anthem and vigi doesn’t seem too worth it even without the deckbuilding restrictions
I’ve already spec’ed out a Vito, Fanatic of Aclazotz deck with a treasure theme. While Aristocrats seemed like the obvious choice, I love the consistency you can get with treasure. Throw in Mondrak and Anointed Procession to double token creation, Mondrak even serving as a sac outlet. Thalisse, Revenant Medium, to make some flying bodies. Marionette Master for some pinging along with Mirkwoood Bats and Agent of the Iron Throne. Smother some Tithes, Tax the Monologues and put out a Life Insurance Policy on non token creatures. Vito becomes real consistent surprisingly fast.
I built a deck using Tetzin and he's my favorite commander coming out of this set. Play a bunch of double faced artifacts to either cheat the cost of flipping them, or to loop their effects
@@rorylastname7635be careful; ‘transform’ and ‘convert’ are two different keywords. If the text doesn’t say ‘transform’ anywhere in the card text, Golden-Gear Colussus doesn’t affect them.
I legit am just getting into MTG. I work in the mold remediation/ IAQ industry so having a fungus archetype was funny as hell to see. Did I build it as my first ever deck? Yes, yes I did
I build Kutzil as a Pauper Commander with an auras theme, it's great. It also has a lot of creatures that etb with +1/+1 counters to get it online early. A lot of people don't realize that while it says one or more creatures, it doesn't say one or more players. This means if you hit all three opponents in one turn, you draw 3 cards
Working on a Don Andres deck with a lot of card take. Mixing around effects that temporarily steal creatures and letting me grab them from opponents decks and graveyards is a fun combo, and I should be making a good number of treasure tokens to keep the engine going. Not CEDH level but looking forward to seeing how it plays
Note about the Ojer Axonil pingers: Nettle Drone will not work because it is a colorless creature (it has Devoid). The damage will only be increased for red sources. This also means Chandra, Awakened Inferno emblems doubly do not work as they do not have a color and are not controlled by you.
I'm really loved the new admiral brass from this set and the precon. I have not bought the orecon but made a deck around her and man I am having fun with it!
I think the designers realized the biggest issues with Pirate tribal is how playing the good ones the fair way would involve spending an entire turn worth of mana. Brass just cheats them out with a stat boost on top!
If you tap a Seat of the Synod and a Great Furnace along with the new Saheeli to float the mana and use her ability, you can target her with the activated ability of a Liquimetal Torque you can then untap everything there with an Unwinding Clock at end of turn since Saheeli would be an artifact as its triggered ability resolves and you could create a copy of something very fair and balanced like a Portal to Phyrexia every single turn in the rotation.
I'm going to build Xavier Sal, Infested Captain. I'm not sure how I'll go about it, since he's so open ended and simply cares about Proliferate and Tokens, but I couldn't forego this PotC inspired Sultai seadog. Mycotyrant can even go into the 99, since they both are Fungi.
The direction I’ve been taking with it is using fungus creatures with spore counters to create saproling tokens! Proliferate your spore counters and sacrifice the saprolings to make more spore counters. Win cons can be related to combat damage with beast master ascension or going wide with tokens and +1/+1 counters, the saprolings trample or venom connoisseur + Fynn the Fangbearer since all the saprolings can be made at instant speed. You can also go infinite with intruder alarm, if that’s your thing
Haven't brewed a complete list with him yet cuz theres way too many commanders i want to try on this block, but my primary idea was sagas that generate tokens as a subtheme with cards like spore counter Saprolings as a proliferate counter of choice. You have an extremely disgusting top end with Kiora Bests the Sea God!
Ive brewed a Xavier sal deck, it's a combination of super friends that make tokens to take advantage of Xavier as well as sagas that make tokens to remove lore counters and reuse broken saga effects over and over, as well as an intruder alarm combo
I mostly play modern and pauper(ah the duality of man lol), but I think this is the set that’s going to get me into edh. I’m thinking about getting, and upgrading, the Merfolk precon after seeing you play it on Game Knights Also, excited to see the next shuffle up and play with Maldhoud!
I actually got kutzil during the pre release at my local card shop near my job and it was awesome. I also ended up pulling ojer pakpatiq and kaslem that same night which is ridiculous. Hope once i get better and have a collection of cards, I can start brewing a deck around those two.
I would say the Merfolk commander is pretty great. Every turn you either grab lands or make all your creatures bigger. Add in the creature that triples explore triggers and the one that makes your counter holding creatures unblockable and you build a massive army of merfolk.
I'm going to be making an orzhov/vampire tribal sacrifice EDH deck with Vito and including lots of stuff that Synergizes like Vraan, Alcatoz and the various new and old artifact and creature generators. I might try to run Vito as 1 of 100 instead and make it a edgar markov mardu deck running bombardment, fling and brion at some point too when I can afford it 😅
i’ve already got my merfolk built. just waiting on vital cards like seahunter and merrow commerce lol. Hakbal is a beast. i usually stick to cedh games but i can easily enjoy myself with an optimized hakbal. thank you professor for the inspiration.😊
For artifact recursion with Saheeli, don't forget Goblin welder and Goblin engineer. Welder is stil a bit pricey though but Engineer can also fetch a low cost artifact for it to return from the graveyard. Like that Ichor wellspring or Burnished Burnished hart or even lands if you play the artifact lands.
Absolutely love playing Kutzil, I built a deck around her around Cat creatures and several Counter makers, including the new card that is essentially budget Ozolith, Explorer's Cache... mixing a lot of Counter granting Artifacts, Exploring Cats, and a handful of delicious crafters, the deck tends to run rather well =D
The video i was waiting for with this new set, i really want to try to build a deck around both indominous rex and thr gnome commander eith flip cards.
Watching this and the glaring absence of Merfolk makes me want to build a Merfolk deck. (I know it's cause the precon merfolk commander is awesome and that's not in LCI. Reading the video explains the video.) Still gonna make a Merfolk deck. Maybe.
I run a pretty effective Gishath deck but my secret weapon is the once printed Kindred Boon, which is used to make Gishath indestructible. Then just pack it full of good dinos, dino synergy mana dorks, board wipes, and a few extra tricks, perhaps a polyraptor and a matauding raptor....lol
Thank you prof for mentioning the gods of the set as commanders. I feel like people are leaving them on the side for the 99 (except for the red one), and that’s not really fair to them.
Built my first commander deck from scratch using Saheeli. Also, it's heartwarming to see the Prof pronounce the Xs as "sh" sounds as one should. He's done his homework!
I'm thinking of building Malcolm, Alluring Siren. Swing in, proliferate his chorus counters, cheat some extra turn spells and maybe some high priority problems for the table.
Me is planning my Pauper Commander with both Kutzil and Caparocti Sunborn. Also definitely thinking of building Gishath since I still have that card from Old Ixalan
So i built a version of Saheeli but she seems pretty unpopular on edhrec so never expected it to do so well here. Very pleased she got recognised. I think she’s awesome. Im building a bit of artifact sacrifice. Thankfully she makes artifacts so its easy to setup. I want to use her with scholar of the lost trove to really give my opponents a headache. :)
I built Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might. I won't lie, I wouldn't even consider doing a monored, but I drafted for the first time in ages and got him and thought "well why not". Card-drawal isn't the most fun, but he can really jump at pretty much everyone out of nowhere, and with the right cards in hand you can even get around Teferi's protection, which is always fun.
I know Universes Beyond might not count, but I can’t WAIT to play Jeff Goldblum. I mean Ian Malcolm. Chaos Global Theft Effect? Sign me up yes please. Izzet Anti-Card Draw (ie: Obstinate Familiar)
Part of me considers putting together Nekusar and splashing axonil in there. Puts a real clock on the game when your opponents are taking 8+ damage a turn. A single wheel at that size deals 28 damage
the first commander deck i ever built was a tribal pirate deck using the old Brass, i could not be more pleased with the new print she is pure gas as a tribal pirates reanimator aggro
It's funny cause I've had an Arti-sacs deck headed up by a Saheeli on the books since BRO and a lot of this new stuff just slots right in. I just pulled the new Saheeli this afternoon so I might start working on the deck in earnest soon!
I'm building Ojer Axionill as soon as I get some win cons figured out for the deck. I've been wanting to build a spellslinger spellslinger deck for a while, and being able to hold back pump spells until you do burn damage for lethal sounds really exciting to me.
Kutzil making top 5 as a commander on a tier list makes me super happy. Love her and what she brings to the table. Probably going into the 99 for my Shalai and Hallar deck...and my Rin and Seri deck.
I have really been enjoying Anim Pakal. Mainly in Brawl so far but I think she'll be fun at the table as well. Three opponents will weaken her a fair bit but for a casual game she should be able to keep solid pressure without being OP.
Mycotyrant has been a pet project of mine for the last week or so, I have him built in historic brawl as a mono-permanents list that is somehow still pretty good. Ayara is a must, as all of the tokens Tyrant makes are black creatures, and Massacre Girl is just Wrath of God in this deck. I look forward to getting my hands on a paper copy and making Tortured Existence plus Crypt of agadeem to build a huge board to sac to altar of dementia on the follow up
I'm a huge dinosaur fan, so there's a ton that I wanna build with in this set! I'm planning on a Gishath deck, and I definitely wanna put Kutzil in both my Rin & Seri deck, and my Lathiel, the Bounteous Dawn deck.
I built an Bartolome and Lurrus aristocrat style deck. Where you pump up Bartolome by scarificing 2Mana artifacts, creatures and its tokens and bring it back with lurrus. Than hit your opponents with commander damage. Did not test it so far though, not sure if it turns out as great as i imagine :D
I opened a kutzil and a Vito at the pre-release and although Vito seemed like the best ability to build the deck around, it was easier to work with the cat because its ability is so versatile.
Speaking of the Articrats deck archetype, Bartolome del Presidio is probably the biggest sleeper hit of the year. We've yet to see a free sac outlet commander in Orzhov since Vish Kal or Teysa, much less one that also sacrifices artifacts for free. The fact that he's 2 mana is also insane, considering all of the effects in white that care about small things in the bin, making him very resilient to removal. I think he's going to be a powerhouse in his own right soon. Apart from him I'm most likely going to build Saheeli or Abuelo.
I'm so pumped to build inti. he looks so damn fast. that much card advantage with a small body?!?! draw into equipment fast, draw into extra damage, discarding to to get two or three quick creatures seems insane
I just built an Inti deck as my first EDH deck ever, and I'm already thinking of ways to upgrade and optimize Inti as a commander. I'm just realizing that I don't actually have that many super cheap creature cards. Obviously, Ragavan Nimble Pilferier and Professional Face-Breaker are really going to take advantage of Inti's first ability that helps push damage through because they create treasures and help us impulse or in Ragavan's case, steal cards. But here's a few cheap creatures that synergize will with Inti: - Rotisserie Elemental, 1 drop with menace that can impulse if it deals damage - Ogre-Held Helm, 2 drop that can be sacrificed to discard hand, then draw 3 - Grenzo, Havoc Raider 2 drop that can Goad a creature or steal an opponents card - Moria Marauder. 1/1 2 drop with double strike that exiles the top card of the library and allows us to cast it until turn. So this could trigger up to two times per turn by itself, and with Inti it gives us 3 cards from exile that we can play from exile. Basically gives us tons of card selection if we want. - Prophetic Flamespeaker. is the same idea as Moria Maruader but it's a 1/3 3 drop with double strike AND trample. Seems strong. - Laelia, the Blade Reforged gets a +1/+1 counter for each card we exile so she has the potential to get huge very fast. - Memory Wurm will let us shock a player every time we cast a spell from exile and force that player to loot AND it gives it a +1/+1 counter Combo those with Wild-Magic Sorcerer that gives the first spell we cast from exile cascade and Nalfeshnee that gives us the ability to copy every spell we cast from exile and things are looking pretty crazy Irraxa, Empress of Mars, Flaming Tyrannosaurus, Keeper of Secrets, Kami of Celebration, Surly Badgersaur, are all must includes in this deck just because they are HUGE payoffs for everything we're doing. Ogre Battlecaster could be good in this deck since it allows to cast spells from the graveyard we may have discarded or simply casted earlier like Jeska's Will for example. Im personally running Trumpeting Carnosaur for the discover and discard synergies and Bonehoard Dracosaur for the card selection and the fact it reliabily makes treasures or 3/1s All in all just a really fun deck and Im really excited to see how it plays
Thinking of making a kind of mill deck with Uchbenbak. Thinking that if it goes to the graveyard it’s able to be cast twice before having to pay commander tax.
The new Saheeli is pretty cool! If I don’t make her my commander, I might just slot her into Mishra, Eminent One who has a similar token copy effect. Thanks for the idea!
I built an aristo-facts deck with Strefan, Maurer Progenitor as the commander and it has been a delight to see people completely underestimate an “upgraded vampire tribal precon”!
I didn't love the idea of playing heavy discard, but I was too excited to finally have a Legendary Bat so I threw together a Tribal deck for Aclazotz. I just wish he were Orzhov. Also, I've been waiting *years* for a good "play your opponents' decks" commander in Grixis colors, so I immediately started brewing for Don Andres.
@18:00 Would the token be considered "going to a graveyard" when tokens don't go to the graveyard? Wouldn't you only get the EnterTB trigger and not the ExitTB?
looking at building Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher for a mix of sacrifice and lifegain. Amalia Benavides Aguirre was who I looked at first, but instead she'll be going to the 99 as a great synergy to hopefully put fun things in the graveyard for Carmen.
I put Kutzil in my GW cat deck, in which I have a ton of lord abilities (King of the Pride, Feline Sovereign, etc), +1/+1 counter cards like Pledge of Unity, and Mirari's Wake
I built Huatli, Poet of Unity. I hear a lot of people online talking about how it is slow. It reads slow, but it plays so consistent it feels fast and inevitable! Trust me people give it a try!
I am in fact building a new commander deck from ixalan. my first one. it's pirates. pirates are cool. got the structure, got some extra stuff that wasn't too expensive. and am currently sleeving it because it just arrived.
Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon is looking like my go to for some fun new boros stompy. An army of artifact gnomes in Boros where we have easy access to +1/+1 counters and multi combat seems pretty good to me. At 3 mana it should work fast too.
Best deck honestly. The cards I want to see in any opening hand are The Ozolith for unstoppable recursion, Grateful Apparition to lead the charge and proliferate every combat phase; Reckless Fireweaver for aggresive Burn, And Ashnod’s Altar, to get Cathar’s Crusade, Ojer Taq, and Abzan Battle Priest on the field by turn 5. Defiler of Faith/Nykthos + Ashnod’s Altar and this deck pretty much becomes an infinite mana storm deck.
I’m very interested in building the mycotyrant. I want a copy for my slimefoot and squee deck and another to build as a commander. The fact that it’s and endstep trigger depowers it a bit but I can’t wait to morality shift then make 80 fungi while ayara first of lockthwain ends the game. 😅
I'm not sure how well Tetzin will do as his own commander due to the relative lack of double faced artifacts, but I think he's cool so I'm slotting him and a few DF artifacts into my Sophina/Bjorna artifact token deck. The few times where I flip Azor Gateway will feel so good.
So I’ve built him and have all the double faced artifacts along with the good value artifacts in it and he’s nuts. I’ve easily taken control of tables with him very quickly and won games.

Gishath has finally a reached a critical mass of good dinosaurs with LCI where I feel like it may be possible to run Kaheera as a companion, which is exciting in itself.

I've been wanting to build a spellslinger spellslinger deck for a while, and being able to hold back pump spells until you do burn damage for lethal sounds really exciting to me.
pyrohemia
Kutzil making top 5 as a commander on a tier list makes me super happy. Love her and what she brings to the table. Probably going into the 99 for my Shalai and Hallar deck...and my Rin and Seri deck.
She and another cat legendary creature from ixalan put in my cat tribel deck from back in 2017. :) cats are the best
I am going to build a Sun Empire themed deck around Huatli, Poet of Unity and my boyfriend is going to build a Saheeli, the Sun's Brilliance deck.
Would nettle drone do 4 damage with Axonil since Axonil specifies that red sources need to deal the damage and nettle drone has devoid?
But here's a few cheap creatures that synergize will with Inti:
- Rotisserie Elemental, 1 drop with menace that can impulse if it deals damage
- Ogre-Held Helm, 2 drop that can be sacrificed to discard hand, then draw 3
- Grenzo, Havoc Raider 2 drop that can Goad a creature or steal an opponents card
- Moria Marauder.
- Memory Wurm will let us shock a player every time we cast a spell from exile and force that player to loot AND it gives it a +1/+1 counter
Combo those with Wild-Magic Sorcerer that gives the first spell we cast from exile cascade and Nalfeshnee that gives us the ability to copy every spell we cast from exile and things are looking pretty crazy
Irraxa, Empress of Mars, Flaming Tyrannosaurus, Keeper of Secrets, Kami of Celebration, Surly Badgersaur, are all must includes in this deck just because they are HUGE payoffs for everything we're doing.
Ogre Battlecaster could be good in this deck since it allows to cast spells from the graveyard we may have discarded or simply casted earlier like Jeska's Will for example.
Im personally running Trumpeting Carnosaur for the discover and discard synergies and Bonehoard Dracosaur for the card selection and the fact it reliabily makes treasures or 3/1s
All in all just a really fun deck and Im really excited to see how it plays
i am stoked to finish building the indoraptor-i think he can get super funny
Nettle Drone is not a red source (it has “devoid”), so its damage output is not increased by Ojer Axonil.
I pulled 2 Mycotyrants at my prerelease. Might have to build one now 😂
Good job on the Axonil pronunciation prof!
I built Amalia Benavides Aguirre as a lifegain vampire tribal deck. Might also build Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher too
@18:00 Would the token be considered "going to a graveyard" when tokens don't go to the graveyard? Wouldn't you only get the EnterTB trigger and not the ExitTB?
great video like always. thank you for your work. love Dyno decks.
I wish Prof. Would bring his fish voice from game knights to the channel 🐟
Not a specific commander but a commander card I am looking at putting in a lot of decks the roaming throne seems soo fun
^ this guy has the good card evaluation skills
looking at building Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher for a mix of sacrifice and lifegain.
I'm really exited for Don Andres. Can't wait to play my opponents decks!
Got Caparocti Sunborn in my prerelease and oh boy is he fun. I so want to make a deck where I can focus on tapping and untapping my stuff
I built Huatli, Poet of Unity. I hear a lot of people online talking about how it is slow. It reads slow, but it plays so consistent it feels fast and inevitable! Trust me people give it a try!
I see what you were doing with that Merfolk art behind #1 Prof lol
I am in fact building a new commander deck from ixalan. my first one.
it's pirates. pirates are cool.
got the structure, got some extra stuff that wasn't too expensive. and am currently sleeving it because it just arrived.
I honestly feel like after this set (jurassic park cards included) dinosaurs are now almost, if not on the same level as dragons in commander.
Mildly surprised that there wasn't mention of the Madness mechanic for Inti.
Deepest Might is going into my Lord of Riots deck. All my pings and static stuff deals 4 instead of 1 hell yeah
Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon is looking like my go to for some fun new boros stompy. An army of artifact gnomes in Boros where we have easy access to +1/+1 counters and multi combat seems pretty good to me. At 3 mana it should work fast too.
Best deck honestly.
The cards I want to see in any opening hand are
The Ozolith for unstoppable recursion,
Grateful Apparition to lead the charge and proliferate every combat phase;
Reckless Fireweaver for aggresive Burn,
And Ashnod’s Altar, to get Cathar’s Crusade, Ojer Taq, and Abzan Battle Priest on the field by turn 5.
Defiler of Faith/Nykthos + Ashnod’s Altar and this deck pretty much becomes an infinite mana storm deck.
I don’t think nettle drone works with ojer axonil having devoid, besides the small mistake Great video!
Not me clicking on this video to hear about Carmen. Got by the thumbnail once again!
Ohh, I think Kutzil sounds very cool!!
I love Gishath. We’ve had a deck for a few years now but friendship ended with Gishath, Pantlaza is my new best friend
I'm stoked to use Pantlaza, Gishath, and Wayta as revolving commanders for the same deck
Oh hey! Huatli’s cousin and bae both made the list! I just think that’s neat.
Always love to see another TCC video!
I like this video. But where is the top ten ways to build a merfolk deck in commander? I live for merfolk
