      I was a photographer in the U.S. Navy at MSC (Military Sealift Command) Oakland, and all of our ships were designated U.S.N.S. (United States Naval Ship). We had spy ships, missile tracking ships, hospital ships etc. Most had a skeleton crew of U.S. Navy and the rest were civilian. Most of the time I wore civilian clothes and my supervisor was a civilian.

      Well I am a retired Coast Guard gunners mate, and current federal LEO. And I can say that is probably ships sop, not CG wide. On my ships all 5 I served on, you loaded individually at a clearing station. And for the Record, CG firearms training is far superior to LE firearms training. I have done both. And the Coasties have a lot fewer accidental discharges. I investigated 1 in my entire CG career. And I have seen HMM lets see 5 in my 22 years in LE. Go figure.

    In the beginning of the video they claimed they had the permission to board it because it was an unstated vessel. At the end of the video they said they asked him for a consensual. Which is it? Do they have all rights and powers to board the vessel or do they need to ask the boat owner/captain to be allowed onto their vessel?
    The answer should be "No, I do not consent."
    Which then means to the CG that you must be a criminal or are about to commit a criminal offense and then they will muscle their way onto your vessel and look for any reason they can find to make you a criminal.
    When people say, "Well, I don't have anything to hide." or "I'm not doing anything wrong." It is not whether you have anything to hide, the question is do you have anything to protect? Like, maybe your rights. If you don't stand for your rights they can't stand on their own and will be taken away from you in an instant.
    It is a wooden boat with some vegetables so they can make a meager living. The CG said they knew there were only 4 people on the boat as they could see them all. They knew it wasn't running illegals.

  • @joecombs7468

    There is a huge difference between can and should.
    Legally they CAN board that vessel.
    But
    They can see the entire vessel without boarding it, well enough to know no laws are being broken.
    They shouldn't have boarded the vessel. The only reason they did is because they can.
    This is why the navy makes fun of the Coast Guard and many civilians think they are assholes.

      yes. that's an old law too going back to the French, and Britain admiralty law days and that has flourished and for hundreds of years proven successful. Thus maritime law is one issue that very few ever mess with.

      I may be in error but as a sailor it has always been my understanding that a US naval or coast guard vessel may board a US registered vessel in any waters. I believe that is why they asked permission to board.

    Everyone who thinks this is illegal. Maritime law states that any vessel that is flies your nation's flag or is unflagged can be boarded and searched. All nation's with a presents on the water have been doing this for centuries. These laws are older than most nation's.

    • @darb4091
      @darb4091 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      But to board an unflaged vessel, just because is another matter which very few countries in the world would do.

    • @mrsmith2876
      @mrsmith2876 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brad Darb from my understanding every nation with a navy and or coast guard does this and have been for centuries. But in international they're isn't much your not allowed to do unless you're involved in piracy, being a hazard to navigation, or otherwise a danger to others. It's been a few years since i had to get my certification but that's basically the gist of it.

      admiralty law that's why. It is done all the time and yes even by other nations that actually bother patrolling as well. You may even be surprised at other nations the USCG teaches to do the same thing. Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, heck even China and many others all do not want criminals, unsafe vessels, and poor working conditions of crew by having outdated or even NO lifesaving equipment or properly working equipment in the waterways. Inspections is the way to ensure that.

      Just a few facts for them Navy boys to choke down. Coast Guard spends more days underway per year than they do. Coast guard sails all over the world and the deepest waters just as they do. Coast Guard doesn't just protect US coast lines, but the Navy while they're in they're also in port. Coast Guard doesn't have the amenities as the Navy when it comes to being underway (so being underway aboard a CG cutter doesn't feel like vacation from home)...hope you enjoy your internet and Netflix connectivity. Coast Guard is held to much higher standards & scores than the Navy...Fact!! You will NEVER see prior service Coasties enlist in the Navy. You will always see prior service Navy vets joining the Coast guard...and the next time you see a good looking Navy brat, thank a Coastie.

      a few fact are wrong there in the 4 years I was in the Navy the only time I wasn't underway was when I was on leave and when we were in dry dock for that month and I went aboard a coastie boat once and wished we had the comforts they had plus we had 6 former coasties on board that enlisted into the navy

      And they have to have someone call out specific instructions while they load the guns so they don't shoot themselves or each other. Wow. It's a good thing they didn't need the guns in a hurry.

    • @1976Boats
      @1976Boats 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This must be for show. We never had a GM calling out instructions on loading our guns. They don't carry them until going on a boarding at which time they are issued weapons.

    • @sfield86
      @sfield86 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Having an accidental discharge on a ship/boat is a good thing huh? This is why you're not in charge of our seas. Luckily we have people that plan for the worst doing the job, and not you.

    • @1976Boats
      @1976Boats 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Please stop making comment that you know nothing about. I was in the U. S. Coast Guard, and I was stationed on the same class of cutter as the one in this video. We do not carry on our own cutter like I said so there is no chance for an accidental discharge. If you bothered to read my comment instead of just being an ass, you would see that I explained that we are issued our weapons when preparing to board another vessel. We did not have anyone calling out commands because if we were qualified to carry weapons, and to be a boarding team member, we also knew how to load our weapons safely. If they didn't, they should not be qualified. Treating fully qualified members like these is demoralizing, and belittles all the training they've recieved. You need to trust your crew, or you shouldn't be a part of it.

    • @sfield86
      @sfield86 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Steven Hardy whoa there, I was commenting towards the OP. Obviously if you were part of the USCG then you WERE in charge of our seas. Thank you for keeping us safe. But the OP has no business being near me, on a boat, with a loaded gun.

      First off, a Coast Guard vessel is NOT a military vessel (except when activated by the Navy during a time of war). Secondly, International Law gives ANY nation the right to board ANY unflagged vessel encountered in ANY location, including in international waters.

      PITPITPIT I think you’re the one who doesn’t understand, not the Americans. According to International Law and numerous treaties, any nation has the legal authority and legal right to stop any vessel that does not fly a flag. It has nothing to do with being armed or “might makes right,” it has to do with mutually agreed upon international treaties and laws.
      If you don’t fly a flag, you can get stopped at any time by any nation’s forces, be those forces American, Canadian, Cuban, French, Spanish, Japanese, or whomever. Educate yourself.

      David L: LE PRÉTENTIEUX. Pour qui te prends-tu pour prétendre m'éduquer ? J'ai 36 ans de pratique du droit derrière la cravate. Le principe même de LOI INTERNATIONALE n'existe pas pour la bonne et simple raison qu'aucun pays, quel soit-il, ne peut créer une loi qui soit reconnue internationalement. Il peut exister des TRAITÉS, mais ces ententes n'existent, n'engagent et ne sont reconnus que par les pays signataires entre eux.
      Cependant, beaucoup de pays, sachant que celui qui ne porte pas de drapeau n'a pas le pouvoir de faire reconnaître des droits qui n'existent pas internationalement (sinon par la force des armes) vont en profiter pour intervenir, soit pour se protéger, soit pour abuser gratuitement.
      Il est entendu que ce que je viens de dire ne prévaut que dans les eaux dites internationales: et encore là, ce ne sont pas tous les pays qui s'entendent sur la limites des dites eaux.
      Dans ce domaine, c'est souvent la loi du PLUS FORT qui s'applique et les USA sont les rois de l'application de la dite loi, si on peut parler ainsi: de là mon intervention.
      On pourrait en discuter pendant des heures, mais si je suis THE ONE WHO DOESN'T UNDESTAND,
      alors qui es-tu ?
      EDUCATE ME...
