f there ever was a musical style that can be linked to the ‘Survival of the Fittest’ credo it would have to be Death Metal. A style that has remained virtually the same since it’s awakening in the early to mid-1980’s, still flourishes with virtually no mainstream recognition or support. If history has proven anything, the bands that are the most dedicated to their craft always seem to find a way to rise above. Forming in Yonkers, New York in 1988, Immolation has been fighting the good fight for some 29 years and their latest [and 10th overall] album, ‘Atonement’ (Nuclear Blast), shows them at the top of their game. Finding a collection of songs with a darker onslaught of maelstrom tempos and melodic yet sickly, dissonant orchestration will prove challenging. Finding a band with a more realistic grasp on their almost 30 year journey might be impossible.

Ive never seen a guitar player with such a fucking majestic presence on stage as Robert Vigna. All his little mannerisms with his body and his guitar upstroke, its perfect. Certainly one of the best and most consistent death metal bands of all time...
Rob is amazing, I am no guitar player but the way he plays is just mind blowing.
I love the way he throws his guitar neck around on string bends and pinch harmonics... He's an absolute badass

Ross is the man. The two times i got to see immolation live, he was always so happy to talk with the fans. He must have shook my hand 6 times, the both times i got to talk to him. My favorite death metal vocalist 🤘🤘

Amazing band with a distinctive band sound, how many bands can say they have a sound in Death Metal? A few, and Immolation is one of them.

Immolation are one of my top three death metal bands ever along with At The Gates and Morbid Angel. They have never gotten the recognition they deserve for some reason and I don't think they ever will. They routinely blow far more famous bands out of the water.
Coincidentally my top 3 death metal albums would probably be Here in After, Blessed are the Sick and The Red in the Sky is Ours.

Immolation aren't the most popular band out there, but anyone who knows their shit knows what a behemoth of a band they are. Same goes for Incantation.

Underrated? By whom? In the death metal community they are highly praised and regarded as one of the founding bands of the genre.

Ross and Bob are the coolest, level headed dudes in Death Metal. Had the pleasure of meeting them on several occassions (at shows) and are always a class act every time. Been a big fan since their 2-song demo in 1988 (when in high school). They stay true to their "guns" with every release and every album is brutal as hell! What more can you ask for from a Death Metal band? They will always be my sentimental favorite! Stay brutal!
Yeah, they are two super cool dudes. Met bob and Ross several times at shows and they are the most humble, down to earth guys who love hanging out with fans.

_Close To A World Below_ is the album that made me an Immolation fan and I still think they've yet to top it. I miss Alex Hernandez on the kit. Dude was a beast.
Alex was great on Failures for Gods and Close to a World Below, he wasn't the most technically proficient drummer in the way Steve was but he was great at blast beats. There was definitely a rawness in his drumming that they don't have with Steve, but then again Steve enables them to play much more intricate and well arranged pieces of music than Alex could.

The First Album for me was what got me into Death Metal was "Failures for Gods" !!!...It's even Tattooed on my Arm. IMMOLATION RULES. !!!

No other band had as unique a sound signature as Immolation, some legendary ones had distinct sounds but was copied\influenced in other bands. Noone was like Immolation and noone ever could copy them. One of my all-time favorites.

Been a fan since album one. Have always managed to miss them live, for reasons of money, time or both. That said, the man, despite his niceness and approachability as a person, has the voice of a human flamethrower. One of the THE BEST harsh, yet totally understandable voices, no mean feat in DM. Their topics DO get tired after some 10 albums of anti-Christian ethos. But the MUSIC??! DUDE. Bob Vigna's riffs sound like a record left to warp in the sun. NEVER heard such a serious incorporation of pinch harmonics as songwriting, and it fucking WORKS. And they've always been blessed with great drummers, guys who used the WHOLE kit and unique patterns.
Just, great band. You know (Christ, I counted it 6 times in 3 lines and 15 sec's LOL)
I have been listening to them since the early 90s...and thats exactly what got me listening...album cover art....them were the days! Seen them live multiple times. Good humble guys.

My favorite Death Metal band, since their inception. Your music, videos and concerts are amazing!! I particularly love Ross's growl..that blows me away still, even though I've been listening to Immolation for years.

I gotta say, way back in the tape trading days, when i got a vhs performance of dawn of possession show, those drums were so organic, like nothing i ever heard (live) it kept me as a fan throughout all these years. Of course their compositions became crazier and complex to follow but still, their drums from that was really crazy for me.

I was listening to shit like Maiden, Megadeth, Anthrax,etc but then starting seeing MTV videos from bands like Kreator, Sepultura, Napalm Death. Went to the store ended up buying Death (Spiritual Healing) and Napalm Death (Harmony Corruption. That got it started for me.
