Man! Just got my first electric scooter and I didn't know what type of helmet to wear ..thanks because I also thought a motorcycle helmet, which I still have, would look ridiculous on a scooter but you made me reflex about it..
Hey! Haha yah in the beginning I thought I’d look ridiculous, but all it took was a couple minutes of searching for scooter accident on Reddit to completely change my mind. Your motorcycle helmet is definitely the way to go. I wouldn’t think twice about it. Regular bike helmets don’t provide protection for your face. With scooter accidents, people are much more likely to go over the bars. If you ever need to brake suddenly, be sure to crouch down a bit and lean back. Also avoid taking your hands off the handlebar. Given how one rides a scooter and the geometry of most scooters, you’ll want to keep both hands on the handlebars. Other than that, they are lots of fun to ride around on.
Always better to over protect than under protect. I'm even considering getting a motorbike helmet and using it riding my 25km/h Ebike. Was looking at those covertable motorbike helmets, so I have the option of taking the front mask off on hot days.
Absolutely right! E-bikes and e-scooters don’t have the luxury of external frames, roll bars, and airbags like cars. Beefy helmets are the next best thing.
@@tomsgadgetgarage Yeah was looking at the Scorpion exo combat 2 since for a motorbike helmet it's quite light at 1.35kg (just under 3lb) and I like the look and think it wouldn't look too dorky when I'm on my fat tire foldable BMX style Ebike. I'm in a hot country so would probably bake if I got a full on body suit, will probably get some BMX knee pads and wrist guards. I'm debating whether to also get elbow pads or not since I don't plan on doing crazy tricks, just for standard fall/crash protection.
That’s a sick looking helmet! Yah I’m here in the Phoenix, Arizona, USA area and the summers are brutal. It’s ultimately a balance between comfort and protection. Full body armor for me would be a little much for the kind of riding I do in e-bikes, but definitely a must when riding around on my electric unicycle.
I chose the smith mainline mostly for the ventilation to keep my head cool but also mips safety lining. My e-bike is a 28/30 mph fat bike. At first I thought I’d look silly but with a the full face helmet and goggles, nobody can see my face ! Ha I can be incognito and safe all at once! I also got a mesh biker jacket that doesn’t look like a biker jacket. Casual but still level 2 protection. I’m not going to deal with van drivers and trucks without protection. Great video.
Those scooters go at over 35km/h. Believe me, for the thrill of if you will want to go as fast as possible. but one pot hole might send u crashing down hard. Better safe than sorry.
I see you wear glasses. This help squash. My concern about my own. Wasn’t going too fast . Bad cornering . Front wheel sunk in freshly water sod. Over handle bar . Landed on dry soft grass. Luck out !
Valid point. I will likely be doing a follow-up video in the future. I use the O’Neal Sierra II helmet. Fit is great and ventilation is very effective. Definitely enjoy to flip down sun visor, especially during the summer here in AZ.
There are things like LS2 MX470, supervented motocross helmet. I saw 1 guy on yt riding in it on unicycle in winter, i think (mountains? Whatever. There was snow.) and and other guy which showed that these vents are pencil size, like 5mm diameter. So not good for slow rides like on scooters in summer. Do you agree? Cuz im still looking for a helm 😅
Yah I definitely recommend something with as much ventilation as possible, especially if you’re riding in a hot environment. Here in Arizona the Cicadas and grasshoppers come out so I opted for something with a visor. I’d like to avoid giant insects in the face while riding around at speed lol. I have an O’Neal Sierra II which has done reasonably well in hot weather. Just gotta make sure you’re moving otherwise things get toasty with the visor down. That LS2 MX470 looks like it has excellent ventilation.
Always glad to see someone advocating for helmets. Thanks!

You don't necessarily have to buy a motorcycle helmet. Try mountain bike full-face ones. They're so much lighter and still offer enough protection.

Do you still need a moto helmet at 32kmh?
thank you
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!

Yikes! Glad there was grass there because road rash is the worst.
was expecting a product review. already decided on a full face helmet before watching the video,
Ah sorry about that. Yah I’ve been using an O’Neal Sierra II but that’s about it. Don’t have any other helmet to compare it to just yet.
There are full face bicycle helmets too.
That’s a great call out! Will check those out 👍
All talk no show. At least wear the thing so we know what it looks like on person and how it feels?

I'm wearing a kitty one
Nice!
