  • Hi everyone! In an effort to get more content out, I've decided to try doing some "vlog" style videos, just kind of showing the day-to-day operations around the frog room, with the idea being that they will be less scripted and less polished, therefore being easier to film and edit, and ultimately allow me to get more content out to you awesome viewers! Let me know what you think!

    I appreciate that you're trying to put out some more content. I like this vlog style - both because I understand it's a lot easier to produce, but also with all the in depth videos out about keeping a specific species or building an enclosure, people can become really knowledgeable but still miss out on the daily routine tasks that are essential. Regardless if you decide to move away from this style, what you put out would make a nice series about what regular upkeep is like. Thanks for what you do!

    It would be cool to see some time-lapse videos of cultures,tadpole growth ,feedings ect. Also some Northern Frogger merch would be sweet.

    Love the idea of Frog Vlogs! So cool seeing you care for all the animals. :) Also! If you do in fact feel that these vids get too repetitive in the future I have a video idea! You could make an "organizing the frog room" type video where you can clean up/decorate/organize/change up the room! I love watching those type of videos. :)

    Hi there. I'm new here. I have watched some of your other videos since I'm just starting out with frogs. I caught some of my local greenhouse frogs and now want some darts. I just ordered some Santa Isabella tadpoles. This video comes at just the right time. Don't apologize so much. I loved this video. It's nice that you're sharing what you do and love with us. I am doing this on a small scale with my one small exoterra tank. I have a lot to learn so your videos are nice. For one, I now know better how to get flies out without them all running away. Beginner mistakes I'm sure with time I won't lose so many when I feed. I look forward to seeing your new shelves, the tadpoles care and I'd love to see more of how you have your current shelves and types of shelves. I've been on youtube a very long time and know about the easy vs fast videos to edit. I think the length of this one is great. I don't watch videos longer than 15 mins because I'm at my PC and desk. I try to keep my own videos to that length too. And I don't keep a schedule. I post when I feel like. TH-cam should be for fun not for stress.

    I think a full video on tadpoles/froglets would be a good one not to many in detail videos out there that I have seen anyways

    • @NorthernFrogger

      The next vlog will cover the basics of tadpole care, but I should probably make a more in depth video about it too, thanks for the suggestion! Although I think TCS Dart Frogs has some good tadpole care videos as well!

    This is a great idea, I’m just looking into the idea of keeping dart frogs so a beginners guide or day to day in the hobby would be great, keep up the great work.

    Loving your videos! Would like to see where you get your new frogs? Are they from other local breeders or at big box pet stores? Thanks

    • @NorthernFrogger
      @NorthernFrogger  ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of my frogs originally came from Understory Enterprises, Jungle Jewel Exotics, or Mostly Just Geckos. But I've also got some from other hobbyists I found through local classified ads.

    Nice video! Hey Josh I heard about grain mites, should you separate your fruitfly culture from your dart frogs enclosure in case a infestation occurs? And how do you avoid grain mites?

    • @NorthernFrogger
      @NorthernFrogger  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I keep my cultures on a bed of diatomaceous earth, it kills mites when they try to walk through it. Also when storing the cultures I make sure they don't touch each other, just in case mites get into one culture they can't crawl directly to another culture but will have to walk through the DE.

      @@NorthernFrogger ok thanks you use the insect killer powder one? Or neither

    • @NorthernFrogger
      @NorthernFrogger  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The brand I've been using is White Lake diatomaceous earth. It's actually branded as an anti-caking agent for animal feed, but I've been using it for years now and haven't had a single mite issue since I started using it

      No I can't, sorry. It's a huge pain due to CITES restrictions. I would recommend TCS Dart Frogs or Josh's Frogs if you are in the US

  • @gmoooooney

    How do you feed the froglets once they are in the larger cups?

    • @NorthernFrogger
      @NorthernFrogger  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't feed them in the morphing cups. During the final stages of metamophosis their mouthparts and digestive systems are also undergoing major changes so they can't eat anyway, but rather survive off the nutrients from resorbing their tail.

    is it bad if the fruit flies have started to live in your enclosure?

    • @NorthernFrogger
      @NorthernFrogger  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not necessarily, as long as they aren't so abundant that they are stressing the frogs out
