"They built so big" Yup, that's their Wall of Sound. They do that a lot and it gets me every time! Thank goodness for the humming at the end - it lets me take a breath!
Avi's last bass note is ultraviolet. It's that deep color of a sparkling clear and moonless summer night sky just as the last final remnants of daylight disappear. At least that's the only way I can find to describe it.
Pentatonix has quite literally redefined a capella for the entire music industry! Celebrating a decade together this year, their catalog is wide and deep and every single song is AMAZING! Their original “Sing” is the positive anthem this world needs & it includes their fans!

The part that blows my mind is that Scott, Kirsten, and Mitch all went to high school together. What a concert choir that must have been!!!

They are a Three time Grammy Award winning group. All of their evolution videos will surprise you with their transitions. Mitch's high notes will completely stun you. Kevin's beatboxing is the best I have EVER heard. Scott's runs are seriously sick. Kirstie has sung on Broadway. Then yes there are Avi's speaker blowing bass. Together they are the groundbreaking group for acapella groups everywhere. They are who acapella groups want to be.

Incredible thing i found out only recently is that their Grammy for "Daft Punk" was won AFTER their record label dropped them!!! They had a budget of $400 and filmed it in one of the member's apartments.... cue record label execs bawling into their bowl of Cheerios lmao

Kevin is the beat boxer. He speaks 4 languages; graduated from Yale University; is a concert Cello player; he I believe got a medical degree and he spent a year in China and speaks fluent Mandarin which is the hardest language to learn.
There’s a big crossover between Home Fries and Pentaholics. Some people prefer one over the other, but lots of us appreciate both.
Names of the PTX members:
* Scott Hoying, tall blond guy, baritone. Unofficial lead singer, co-founder, has a huge range which covers tenor to bass.
* Avi Kaplan, original bass, 2011-2017. You already know him. He helped the group find his replacement, Matt Sallee, who joined the group in November 2017. Important tip: this is the only member change.
* Kevin Olusola, beatboxer/tenor/cello. 98% of the time he’s beatboxing or singing harmony. The rare occasions where he sings lead &/or plays cello are epic.
* Kirstin Maldonado, aka Kirstie, the lovely mezzo-soprano. Changes her looks a lot, which sometimes confuses people. She was less confident in the early days of PTX, and didn’t sing many solos, but she had a breakout year in 2018 (solo album and a stint on Broadway) and has been taking the lead more often since.
* Mitch Grassi, tenor/countertenor. Changes his looks drastically every year or so, confusing all reactors. You WILL find yourself asking “Is that Mitch?/Where is Mitch?” but I promise he is in 100% of the PTX videos. Mitch, Scott & Kirstin grew up together in Texas, where they all did choir, musical theater and trios in high school.
*Ben Bram, arranger/producer/co-founder. The “invisible member” of PTX, as he’s almost never on camera, but he is credited on two of their three Grammies.

Oh honey, you're in for it now! I swore they couldn't outdo themselves after Hallelujah. I was wrong! Their rendition of Amazing Grace is going to make you absolutely lose your mind. Many people are fans of Home Free, PTX, and Voice Play. They all bring something different to the table. Not necessarily better, just different. I'm going to love watching you freak out at some of the material you're going to hear! And as for showing emotion, go for it! I'd much rather someone show and say how they're feeling than just watch someone that looks like they're watching paint dry. Have fun with your adventures! ❤

I think it's a rite of passage to get emotional the first time you hear this version. I cried like a baby and I swear it felt like a religious experience, if that makes sense. One of my favorite songs of all time as well. I've heard numerous versions of this song, and this one is my absolute favorite!

You should check out the live video of PTX, Hallelujah. It's amazing to see that they are NOT relying on studio sound/edit effects for their amazing sound. They really are just that good! 💖

Jaron, I grew up with a bass singer. My dad was a trained singer so is it any wonder I love the sound of base. My dad would always be rehearsing for something. He’s gone now and he took that beautiful voice to continue his journey to meet his maker.

Hallelujah brother!!! lol. If you are curious to know how they sound live singing Hallelujah I would love to see your reaction to the live version. (Christmas Special 2016) It will NOT disappoint. So many wonderful harmonies, covers and originals from this band. They are my favorite. Avi was with the band for more that 6 years. He left on good terms and helped the band find his replacement Matt Sallee. Please watch the older performances first so that you get to know these wonderful people and to see their beginnings. Scott Hoying (tall blonde), Mitch Grassis(tenor in the hat) and Kirstie Maldonado grew up together in Texas. They found Avi through a friend of a friend and Kevin Olusola(beatboxer and cello boxer) from a you tube video. Avi has a major in opera and Kevin was to begin medical school when the trio asked them to join. They all met for the singing competition the sing off and won the season before Home Free competed. They won 3 Grammy awards while Avi was with them. Daft Punk (is the 1st), Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy(the 2nd) and Jolene with Dolly Pardon(the 3rd). The Pentaholics are the best fans and community. We will support you on your journey. Loved the reaction.

Scott (lead singer) can take over the bass when Avi or Matt take lead...they all are amazing....love PTX and Home Free equally...both madly talented, different but equally amazing. Avi is the bass that was replaced with Matt, Kevin is the beat boxer, singer and cello player among other talents. Kirstin is a queen...she is amazing and Mitch has the voice of an angel...you can't go wrong with any of their work. Mark 9:32 down as the Mitch face, when someone hears Mitch for the first time. Home Fries and Pentaholics can co-exist :)

I agree about Avi's voice. The whole group is amazing, together this line up is stunning, but Avi's voice is just magnificent. That bass underlining Mitch's voice gives me goosebumps every time.
In his solo work when he takes the studio releases and does them acoustically it just makes my heart pound. Imagine what a body of work he will have created 10 years from now.

Hey, Jaron...here’s the thing...if one appreciates music as the art it is and can be, it doesn’t matter if you’re a Home Fry or Pentaholic. These groups (and I’d throw Voiceplay in there too) are SENSATIONAL! What they do to the songs they perform (ESPECIALLY as acapella groups!) just draws out emotions in a true music fan that can’t be denied or suppressed, and that means we don’t have to choose sides. Love your reactions, man! Keep up the good work!

This was the song that introduced me to Pentatonix, and yes, it is VERY okay to get emotional. One listen as I was permanently hooked. I have been a dedicated Pentaholic ever since. You're gonna LOVE going down this rabbit hole and you won't be disappointed by anything from them.
