Hardcore MM fan, iv got almost every track & Trailer Trash by MM is one of my favorites for some reason. I honestly never thought I could have liked another version better but this.. This I could literally listen to all day. This is 500 times better than the original. This Track actually introduced me to Iron Horse & now I'm sitting up till sometimes 2am at night listening to any & all bluegrass covers. This version truly brings out the emotion and Heart, the sadness & contentment that I'd never heard or felt while listening to the original. This just brings to life every sensation that is meant to be felt. Well done Iron Horse.
Fully agree with you that it's far more emotional and sad than the original. This version has actually brought tears to my eyes before while listening to it. Plus, the banjo in it is incredible.
i love the original more.. but its an emotional fucking song and it will always mean what it does.. i love this version so much, i have seen modest mouse 15 times and the last song i really want to see now is talking shit about a pretty sunset.. i have it tattooed on my right foot,, i hope one day i can see that song live even if i have to travel. trailer trash.. cowboy dan.. custom concern.. sleepwalking.. edit the sad parts.. i am certainly blessed and i love modest mouse..
gahhh shivers and goose bumps! i literally spent like a whole month only listening to this cd. awesome covers. i dont think anyone else could ever pull off modest mouse covers
This version makes me teary for some reason...Not sure why. Mahalo for uploading it though. I had the privilege of living near this area for a few years, and it's always been a place I miss dearly.
HELL, I'M FROM east texas, and i can already feel the love from the artists without having all that spelled our for me. Let's love our country, fellas!
Amazing cover! I'm floored.... they missed on the closing jam from the original but that's making this cover their own and translating it to bluegrass... so well done
no. I like them both and immense amount of likeness, depending on my mood they both speak to me emotionally. they are both beautiful and like two completely different songs to me.
I spent a few weeks fighting fire in Western Oregon this summer, and pictures don't do it justice. It's an amazing place. Especially if you're from the Midwest and you're used to rows of corn and soybeans. I surely don't want to wish for another wildfire (any firefighters here knows that's bullshit..), but I'd love to go back some day.
this song is a breed of its own. I think it fits the lyrics extremely well...maybe better than MM. Trailer Trash just has a southern aura around it, and Iron Horse captures it so well.
Holy shit. I have watched this video probably twenty times or more and I just realized these are pictures from Harris Beach. I live maybe thirtyfive minutes from there. What a small world huh? I love Oregon. Cheers!
I wouldn't say that they completely missed the point. They made their own point. In this cover, the arrangement and the feel try to (imo) to convey the sense that there is nothing wrong with that style of life and that they are proud of it. Nothing wrong with that. The MM original is completely different because Isaac was there, and wanted to escape it. He put his sense of disillusion and despair at his inability to leave that life behind into the MM version. That's why it's so depressing.
@Assaultpredator never kayaked it but have spent the last 10 yrs traveling up and down the west coast in a bus, and always made a point of stoping and doing a bit of hiking in that spot. If u can believe it i have driven my 35ft bluebird through the park, talk about cutting it close on that 1 lane road.
Like your comment - gets right to the point. A friend of mine turned me on to Modest Mouse a couple or 3 years ago. He's a RABID Modest Mouse fan and so made me a fan, too. But knowing about my country streak, he brought me the Iron Horse "Pickin' on the Mouse" CD and I was blown away. Seriously great Bluegrass, and great Mouse at the same time.
I could show this to some of my country-loving friends and they would never guess that Modest Mouse had originally done it. The lyrics even fit the tear-in-my-beer makeover. That's not a good or bad thing; just saying. But I do love getting people to unwittingly love a song by a band they "hate." (Unfortunately, many of friends have no taste for Modest Mouse...)
Both versions are very good, Iron Horse is very talented. Its not ment to be a direct cover, its a diffrent take on this track. Very well done in its own right.
James Merrill most of the Pics were taken in Oregon The redwoods were at Jedediah Smith state park and Newton B Drury scenic byway in Norther California. If you have any questions about specific photo locations, I could probably remember where they were.
Hey man, I'm convinced a bluegrass/folk version of pretty much any song can be done. I'm sure I could think of a few to try out if you want. Man, I miss Humboldt right now...
Did anyone ever give you any information on Iron Horse banjo tab? I would definitely appreciate a lead. I am not crafty enough to figure it out myself.
Both the Modest Mouse and the Iron Horse version of this song give me chills, if I let them. Recently stumbled on Iron Horse and am quickly becoming addicted. All of their covers sound so...organic. Really amazing stuff.
@aurhys I dunno man, this sounds so much different then Isaac's that it almost makes it better due to the fact that it has Isaac's amazing lyrics with a brand new sound. They're both amazing bands, but covers that redefine the song are endlessly better than seeing how close you can get to sounding the same.
You realize that by chastising me for questioning someone's opinion you are questioning my opinion. Your argument is found upon contradiction. Nice try, though.
i think that about almost all of the covers iron horse has done. I LOVE led zeppelin's stairway to heaven, though I have listened to iron horse's version a thousand times and led zeppelins only like 30
I love to see songs done in a new style and love modest mouse and blurgrass but really dont like that he didnt say "god damn" when he should have, still like it overall but come on, country folk say god damn!
This is one of the greatest covers of any song--makes it its own while keeping the sadness of the original. Really great.
DanDan you should hear the cover of hurt by Johnny Cash.
One of my favorite modest mouse songs lyrically. That's saying a lot honestly. I think Iron Horse turned this into a way better song though.
@@jeepmanxj Everyone has heard Hurt by Jonny Cash. It's incredible. This cover is also amazing.
I love the lonesome crowded west. I didn't think I could love this song more. Then Iron horse came along and proved me wrong...

I'll always love the original as it was the first track I ever heard by Modest Mouse but man... no words can describe how good this is!
I'm in full agreement. Also a hardcore MM fan for fifteen years now. I'd rather hear this version for the rest of my life over the original.
I’ve jammed this probably 300x in the past week. No lie.
Tears and chills , this is one of the greatest songs of my life , smiling and crying and playing it again .
gahhh shivers and goose bumps! i literally spent like a whole month only listening to this cd. awesome covers. i dont think anyone else could ever pull off modest mouse covers
i literally could listen to this version over and over and over and still cry!!!
This is a fantastic cover.👍👍👍
This version makes me teary for some reason...Not sure why. Mahalo for uploading it though. I had the privilege of living near this area for a few years, and it's always been a place I miss dearly.
That banjo roll is amazing; makes this way better than the original.
Awesome cover. I love it.
Iron Horse is one excellent ensemble...thank you for a great cover! Banjo picker is something else...salute!

Amazing cover! I'm floored.... they missed on the closing jam from the original but that's making this cover their own and translating it to bluegrass... so well done
Bluegrass works so well for the lyrics!

So uplifting ! )))
no. I like them both and immense amount of likeness, depending on my mood they both speak to me emotionally. they are both beautiful and like two completely different songs to me.
I need the banjo tabs lol
You just need to play more banjo and learn your chords man.. You should be able to figure this song out in 5 minutes.
96,000th view of this awesome song. Great upload!
Beautiful North West pictures!!!

Never been out west,Looks very beautiful there
And old crow is very good .=)
kewl that they're redoing my absolutely fave band of all-time. seriously, i've heard every album they've ever put out.
This is awesome thanks, iron horse modest mouse and Ugly Casanova all are awesome.
this song is a breed of its own. I think it fits the lyrics extremely well...maybe better than MM. Trailer Trash just has a southern aura around it, and Iron Horse captures it so well.
lmao at your narcisism. It hit "the point" perfectly with me.
My god what a cover! Would love to see them try doing some songs from "strangers to ourselves"
centeral va and eastern tenn. luv it...
awsome pics

but we can hear all the words. nobody can do justice to this masterpiece. I've listened to all the covers. No one comes close
These pretzels are making me thirsty...
❤️❤️❤️
I love this song!!
When I saw the thumbnail of this video I thought it was going to be an Iron Horse tribute to Band Of Horses. That would be sweet!
"hey!!" my favorite pickin album of covers!
WOW. Moudest mouse?!?! Lovin' the country feel
Thanks very much for posting this.

❤
Oh my damn! Bluegrass cover of Modest Mouse? These guys took their great musical taste and did something you could of never imagined possible
Nice work man very well done!!

man this shit is AMAZING.
good song like a lot wishing a good day to all
@Assaultpredator love that area! stout grove reminds me every time just how unimportant humans are.
its perfectly simple i love it =)
I could show this to some of my country-loving friends and they would never guess that Modest Mouse had originally done it. The lyrics even fit the tear-in-my-beer makeover. That's not a good or bad thing; just saying.

good work! :D
yah, more iron horse/modest mouse please!
I absolutely love this song! Also, where are these pictures from exactly? Any from Humboldt or Mendocino counties? Looks like home to me. :)
James Merrill most of the Pics were taken in Oregon The redwoods were at Jedediah Smith state park and Newton B Drury scenic byway in Norther California. If you have any questions about specific photo locations, I could probably remember where they were.
Listened to the original last night, I like this way more.
Love Old Crow
Honestly, i like Iron Horse doing modest mouse songs more than i like Modest Mouse doing modest mouse songs
I totally disagree, but I love all iron horse songs
holy crap yes
Hey man, I'm convinced a bluegrass/folk version of pretty much any song can be done. I'm sure I could think of a few to try out if you want.
Man, I miss Humboldt right now...
I've been trying to find it for years.
Damn, I was really hoping for a cover of Dashboard
honestly i like this better than the original -shrugs- to each her own
happiness
@WhoaParrot AMEN :)

@aurhys too true
@WhoaParrot Haha, Cheers to that!
By the way, is that Mt. Lassen at 1:00? I guess it could be Mt. Hood, too.
Is there anywhere to get a banjo tab for this, or anyone have it worked out? It sounds like its in C but I don't know the changes or anything
JESUS!
mhm.. :)
they did make a tribute album you know ^^
I'm a huge modest mouse fan, and while I would rather listen to the modest mouse version I just gotta say THIS SHIT IS AWESOME! lol
The music was great, the orientation of the photos, not so much.
For me this is one of the rare covers that is better than the original.
That's blasphemy
No it isn't. At all. Even a little bit.
Sorry, as good as this is, to say this is better than the original is just ignorant.
You realize that by chastising me for questioning someone's opinion you are questioning my opinion. Your argument is found upon contradiction. Nice try, though.
Dude, I really don't care. I don't know why this matters so much to you.
i think that about almost all of the covers iron horse has done. I LOVE led zeppelin's stairway to heaven, though I have listened to iron horse's version a thousand times and led zeppelins only like 30
why cant i find the original on youtube?
does anyone know how to find the original of this?
This might be better than the original...
dinosaurs will die
I love to see songs done in a new style and love modest mouse and blurgrass but really dont like that he didnt say "god damn" when he should have, still like it overall but come on, country folk say god damn!
Modest Mouse is no lesser artist lol
Chords are simple as fuck: G, D, C.
:)
Хорошо, оригиналы я не слушаю, но каверы этой группы вполне звучат, приятнее чем первоисточники.
oh man?
