      @@AndyC2_ Very relevant. Liquid cooling adds a whole new level of complexity (=vulnerability) which the 28kWh previous model does not suffer from. It uses ingenious air conditioned flow from the cabin to cool the battery (and me). Get a 28, it goes plenty far enough for almost anybody, weighs less, is simpler and cheaper.

    My understanding is that if you have the coolant flushed and changed as a "recall", Hyundai are insisting that it has to be changed again at the 40,000m/4 year service, even if this is only a month or two later!!!!!

    hi. I have a Kona 64EV and I also have the coolant refill light on... but in reality the liquid in the container has risen well above the MAX level. I have the car in the garage and when the mechanic tried to unscrew the cap, a strange noise came out (like the cork of a champagne bottle). Suggestions?

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      A cork sound would indicate that it was under pressure which it shouldn't be. The coolant bottle should be venting.
      But some of the Konas are in this recall to have the coolant changed due to crystallisation. The original BSC-1 coolant is being changed to BSC-2.

    What I don’t quite get is how come this issue does not happen with other newer EVs that also have liquid-cooled batteries these days? And also how come Hyundai didn’t foresee with the type of coolant they’re using. Question: can you still drive it until the car is serviced?

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another video coming in a week's time about driving them with this issue.
      But yes, other manufacturer's are possibly having this issue too, but they have yet to work it out. It has taken Hyundai about 1.5 years to work out the problem and come up with this recall which is changing to a different coolant. I know that Mercedes is having the exactly the same issues with their EVs (low coolant, low coolant light, coolant loss, but no leaks) but they've not yet worked out a solution. Most (if not all) dealerships do not see it as an issue and just top up the bottle. I suspect they're using the same coolant from the same manufacturer.

    Regarding the 12-volt battery drain issue, is that something experienced by the 28kWh models as well? Related question, is the frequency of activation of 12-volt battery saver system indicative that the 12-volt battery might need to be replaced soon?

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 28kWh models do not suffer from 12V battery drain. Some owners have experienced it, but that's probably due to low use and its not a common issue on the 28kWh. The 38kWh has the Bluelink app and SOS system which seems to be the main contributes to the power drain.

    Matt if your coolant level looks ok is it a sensor problem? Mines got 20000 on the clock, not sure I want them changing it at 40000. Can I ask how often your car is used and could it be an issue that only occurs if the car is not used much and the coolant is not being pumped around regularly?

      The car is new to me. However, our other 38kWh did the same too. That car is used daily and does 15,000 miles per year.
      This changing the sensor is a red hearing. Hyundai were changing sensors originally when this issue started to appear. They did this repeatedly on customer's cars until they started seeing the pattern and its now evolved into this coolant recall.

    • @MyImperfectEcoJourney

      We run two Ioniq 38kWh and both have had the coolant flush & change once and have been fine since. I have read that some owners have had experiences like yours. But I wonder if they are owners who had much of this done before Hyundai worked out the issue and found the cause. It was only late spring/summer this year when the new TSB came out with the change to the BSC-2 coolant. So I would imagine the cause of your repeated coolant changes is that they were: 1. not properly flushing out the debris and 2. using the same BSC-1 coolant.

      My Hyundai Ioniq 28kWh does £0.09/mile for combined home charging and public charging. In the UK, for a petrol/diesel car it’s £0.15/mile at the moment on average 🤷🏻‍♂️. Also, I keep hearing that Tesla’s EVs aren’t that reliable/well-made, sorry 😂

      @@Nikoo033 Yes for your kind of EV you may well get that cost from home charging - but with public charging around 80p or more per kwh I highly doubt that your combined cost is just 9p 🤔
      What I do know is my cost per mile can be 30p using Tesla superchargers or other public charging and that’s way more expensive than when I had my BMW 330d
      So I stand by what I said entirely

      @@AndyC2_ sorry to disappoint, but I’ve had my EV since January, and so far I am at £0.09/mile without having changed my annual mileage. I keep detailed records of all my charging sessions. 😁 Your £0.3/mile is 1.5 times what I used to pay for my former ICE car. 😳

      @@Nikoo033 I don’t believe your figures but why would you think you’d disappointed me ?
      It doesn’t matter to me what your figures are 🤷🏻‍♂️
      Yes, you are correct re how expensive my EV is to run, I mean that was the whole point of what I said originally - if you want to go check 🤯

      Our Ioniqs cost 7.5p per kWh to charge and are still peanuts to run. But I don't drive an EV for the cheaper running costs. I drive an EV because they don't pollute the air with poisonous gasses which is harming us, no killing us, and harming other life and the planet.
      There's is no way I'll ever go backwards to burning oil. That's just dumb.
