Right after that I started learning about the rsp play DX which sounds like a much better unit that does the same thing I bought the nooelec for only better for about the same price.
Well I'll see how this does, maybe I'll return it and get the rspdx.

hi Great Video ! just getting into this after being off the recievers for three years i take it i can use this with windows 10 or 11?

5:45 Helpful instructions only ONE STEP was missing. The device still doesn't show up for me until I run the BAT file found in the SDR Sharp top directory. W/o doing that, no device appears.

Are you picking up the signals with that small antenna or any external antenna is used.
I've got the nesdr smartxtr and ham it up nano and shouldn't the nesdr power the ham it up?
So far I can listen to FM and the weather station (162.55 Mhz) not anything else. Wondering if its my antenna, my location, software configuration or what? I am using the Nooelec blue dongle (mini2+?) and the basic antenna that came with it... I am waiting for my more potent package to come in with a Ham it up receiver...
Can the balun be used with an AM loop antenna?
Thanks for this series of tutorials. Very helpful. I wondered if you had any thoughts on the HF reception performance? For example, compared to a traditional comms receiver? I am tempted to get one of these bundles and, while, I don't expect HF reception to be as good as amateur HF receivers/transceivers, I was curious to know if the performance was reasonable.
It’s all about filtering and rejection. For the price, and as a start into SDR a ham it up with an SDR would be a great starter. For something comparable to a dedicated receiver, then an RSPdx from SDRPlay or the Airspy HF+ would be recommenced. Hope that helps.

I decided to order the NooElec SDR HF bundle as I wanted just a basic HF/VHF/SDR for measuring VDSL2 interference. Also thought it would be a useful panadator for monitoring my HF/VHF/UHF transmissions.

Great video thanks! Please could you advise as to what kind of wire to use for the 2m lengths that go in to the balun? I can't find any reference on the net for this, can it be standard coaxial cable (RG-58) or something else??
To be honest the longer the better, I used 15m wire and it was just 1mm bell wire. Copper
Temporal Space Club late comment but definitely not coax, use something like speaker wires that are not shielded. The point is that shielding protects from RF, which is the opposite of what you want in an antenna.

It's alot of work what are the benefits compared to RTl sdr v3/4
A V3 doesn't work too well on HF on it's own. You can use Q branch, but just not as good as an upconverter.

Bizarre on the website the sdrsharp is not compatible . itried several time and on the whell the device do not appear. so i can not use it with sdrsharp.Thank you

cubic is pretty flaky on my linux box. otherwise thanks for telling us about the shift / offset thing. -125mhz good to know.
The driver will not install in Windows 10 unless in Zadig you click Options, and UNSELECT Ignore Hubs or Composite Parents, and then list all Devices again if necessary, and then use TL2838UHIDIR as the device you are trying to install. Then the driver will install correctly. Then go make sure SDR sharp recognizes the device go to SDR sharp directory and run the install-rtlsdr.bat file by double clicking on that, then go into SDR sharp and choose RTL-SDR USB as the source. Then it'll work with the play button as usual.

Yes, you have to use the IO DLL version.
This video has been very helpful. I now have the sdr dongle plus Ham It Up. I get very weak signals and lots of noise which I think is from the pc . I'm very disappointed! Suggestions?
Hey Bob, I would definitely say this is to do with your antenna. Please let me know what type of antenna you are using for HF, below 30Mhz
I'm using two lengths of copper wire about ten feet long each into the balun as a dipole. I tried the same arrangment into my HF receiver with no problem. I think that it's noise from the PC. I'm going to try it with my laptop outside in the garden to see if the noise is coming from somewhere in the house. Cheers.
Use a USB cable with ferrites.

Sure, but it would only be good for vhf and upwards. Range would be diminished compared to an outside antenna.
Hi, i am thinking of getting a ham it up converter. Is there much of an advantage going with an upconvertor vs using direct sampling on the rtl-sdr v3 ? Thx

My sdrsharp does not HAVE a source function above Radio. ???
i have the latest nooelec doggle and ham it up. converter and use cubesdr. have -125mhz offset and highlighted rtl and hit start. all i get is noise.
the rf in goes to an outside 2 element 40 mt yagi at 70 ft. seems like i should be hearing something.
Do you mean CubicSDR? Also, what’s frequencies have you tried listening to? I presume around 7.1mhz lsb? Also make sure that the switch on the ham it up is NOT on pass through.
I have a switch that i can switch in my 160 meter inverted L ant or the 40 meter beam or my 4 element quad. and sorry type-0 CUBICSDR software. ham it up is switched in. not bypassed. can pick up 2 of 3 local am stations. but nothing on 160 80 or 40 meters cw or ssb. i have been a ham since 1962 , so it is hooked up right. i check out the videos on here and the guys are coping a ton of signals. but i am not hearing any. i also have the 9:1 balun going to rg 58 coax to the antenna switch. and have tried it with and without the balun. maybe i have something in the software wrong. thanks Tony WA4JQS

A newbie guy but i have one simple Question- how does the ham it up converter receive its power source from..
Ahh yes, I’m not sure if I covered that properly in the video but the Ham It Up has its own USB cable which plugs into a PC or usb charger for its power source. So you need two usb cables, one for the sdr and one for ham it up.
ahh that's it.. i see now 5+ plugs in the other usb port /side of the Converter.. excellent video by the way..very helpful for us sdr beginners guys..

when i enable the SHIFT it won’t let me tune below 124 mhz.. and on my drop down menu it only shows GENERIC RTL
Go the other way with the shift. If it was -125MHZ then select +125MHZ.
I'm having a little bit of trouble getting this to work in SDRsharp. even after I install the driver using Zadig I am unable to find my device in the configure source button. When I click on the configure source button there is no option to select other devices it is grayed out. Do you know where my issue might be coming from?

Obi Okonkwo , I borrowed an rtl-sdr v.3 from a friend and SDR sharp recognized that dongle. I also followed the installation instructions from rtl-sdr.com
Craig W7CDP - Can't get the SDRSharp software to fire up. I keep getting a popup that I need to load the .NET software which I have loaded about 3 times. After doing so, it still pops up and won't let me go beyond. I have a 64 windows 10 machine. What an I doing wrong?

You have to use the ZaDig driver installation program to install the correct driver for your SDR receiver. Which SDR do you have?
I have the same problem, i have rtl_sdr receiver r820t2 (one with dolphine on it), in zadig it shoved and the driver inastallation was successful but in sdr sharp it doesnt show.....

Depends what OS you have installed. I’m personally not aware of any SDR software for chromebook, but some might exist. I do have a chromebook some where so I’ll check

@@kanibis420 The only software I've found for chrome OS is called Radio Receiver and its more of a browser plugin , I would love an app like SDRTouch that worked on chrome OS.
It is strange that the 'Ham it up - Plus" is actually cheaper 🤔 by itself on Amazon then it is in any form on eBay. I already have several SDR dongles and it costs more to buy the bundle.
Is this on Amateur Radio band? There should not be music. Could it be CubicSDR just is not working for this band?
I noticed you didn't plug in the USB on the Ham it up upverter. Any reason for this?

Unable to down load your version of Zadig driver install. This one is for a Blue tooth Camera . LOL Pull down is nothing like the one in this video.
Do I connect the dongle before or after installing the drivers?
First download Zadig. Then connect the dongle. Then launch Zadig and make the adjustments as stated in this video.
Sdr radio on android
Many things are unclear about all this and the frustration factor is high. Here are 4 questions:
what setting should I use - FM, NFM, AM', USB, etc...???
Also, what is the effect of bandwidth (2,56 vs others?)
How do I listen to airplanes to tower chatter?
How do I listen to digital channels?
I wish Nooelec would get a little more specific about the drivers, seems to be comparability issues with some systems. seems like it's trial and error, pretty frustrating.
The Zadig drivers are all oh need for normal SDR software. Some DAB and TV software require different drivers.
Tried it again with another PC following exact details presented. NOOELEC ham it up does not work under any circumstance. Total POS. I'm buying an ICOM.
OK After HOURS of reinstalling drivers and NO contact phone number to this company and NO support whatsoever this is a bunch of CRAP! Ahh yea. Don't buy this garbage! It doesn't work AT ALL and the company doesn't even have a real person that will pick up the phone. Hell, they dont even have a phone number. I had to resort to TH-cam to try and figure out how to install it as there is NO information whatsoever on their website. Complete WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY! GARBAGE!
Am I the only one that is bothered by the fact he is using the hard connection on the pc connection side and the cable on the antenna side?
Use linux and I'll sub. How-to videos in windoze helps me not.
