    Thank you for this video and channel. I am a minister that struggles with ADHD silently. Though I believe it is possible for God to help us overcome, I've found that people often just say things like "Trust God and have faith" without offering any practical ways to deal with it. I've even heard it said that Christians can't have ADHD if they are in the word and allow God to renew their mind.

      Look into Gabor Mate books and video. ADHD is early childhood trauma manifestation, thus giving our child self love and acceptance is the solution.

      @@alexforgetHi Alex,
      From what I understand of the disorder it is a bit more than trauma related. It is a neurological developmental disorder that has a lot to do with genetics. According to the science there is at least 80% chance it is hereditary.
      Having ADHD can make trauma a lot harder to cope with. It can even be traumatic having ADHD and going undiagnosed and not know what is going on with one's self.

    I just stumbled across your channel looking for "How ADHD affects faith" because, like you, I'm a grown man with ADHD and a Christian who struggles with reconciling the two. I write about these things all the time, but it's just so difficult to separate the psychology from spiritual motivation.
    The more I talk to people about it, the more I realize how little they understand the struggle. It's led me to some very dark places. But "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind" is a command, and so I continue on, trying to figure out what that means for people like me.
    God bless you, man. I'm looking forward to what's coming.

      As a Christian male with ADHD, I find it very difficult to explain my condition. I often describe ADHD as a puzzle piece that fits but just doesn't look completely right. Sometimes, I wonder if it's something that's not meant to be understood, and if God looks at me and others like me differently.
      But is ADHD really so bad? Is it truly so uncomfortable to the point where, if you're not doing everything right that society deems right, God will treat us differently? My fiancée always tells me to lead and let God, and that I'm supposed to just know that God will lead me to lead her. And I know we are called to lead as men; we are put in the spotlight, and it's meant to be this way. On top of that, ADHD takes away the ability to make executive decisions. As men, we are expected to have the answers that our future wives need to know. You may hear the words, "I need reassurance from you," well, there are two things about this: number one, the word "reassurance" is a belief, and number two, the word "assurance" is a fact. Spoiler alert! She wants both.
      We are expected to just lead, and that God will lead us to lead her, which I believe to be true to a point. God gives you what you need, not always what you want. When you pray for understanding, God gives you moments where you will earn this, but by trial and error. When you ask for people to understand you, God asks you to be understood; you must understand yourself through Him, not through others. To ask God to teach you love, He will say no, but I will teach you to love others, thus loving yourself in the process.
      Sometimes we just have to fit ourselves into a puzzle that is not technically supposed to be put together. And sometimes, even though we can force that puzzle piece to fit, that's not right. Because if it's how it's supposed to be, then it wouldn't have needed to be forced in the first place.
      Yes, that was random, but hey, it's okay. Because God is not forcing us to put our puzzle piece in the puzzle. He gives us a new, entire puzzle; the piece that's missing, and He builds it to completion. When others say to start over, He says no, look at it another way. I feel that God is the greatest asset, especially in a world that expects us to piece that puzzle together. Be blessed, brother in Christ.

      Being transformed by the renewing of your mind can be very practical. For example, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the renewing of our minds. However, I find that using scripture, prayer, and discernment is key. For me emotional dysregulation is huge. The biggest help is distraction and dopamine first. Reading selected Psalms really helps as does prayer journaling. However, sometimes the pain can be so overwhelming that I need to distract my mind (watching a show, eating ice cream or cookies, talking with someone who understands and willing to help me vent, and getting past the emotions to healthy thinking.

    Thanks for the honesty and discernment. My wife has ADHD and I would appreciate videos on how to study scripture or at least help get her interested in reading scripture for a believer with ADHD. There are unfortunately few if any believers who talk about this issue in the context of walking out their biblical faith. Thanks

    • @IHaveADHD
      @IHaveADHD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of course! I try to be as honest and straight forward as I can with every video. I don't want to put forward anything that will cause stumbling for anyone.
      I struggle with being interested in reading scripture, too. I have made a video with SOME helpful tips. You can find that here:
      th-cam.com/video/SjCJqqemMlA/w-d-xo.html
      But yes, I do want to make more serious Bible-centered helpful videos. I've got a list of people who have asked for help with different topics. Stay tuned! Thanks for sharing!
      Has your wife ever tried counseling or medication? It's not for everyone, but at least some of the coping skills can be really helpful!

    • @thejohn17project15
      @thejohn17project15 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IHaveADHD Thanks for the reply. She is in counseling which has helped her some. I have not suggested medication but I want to be careful with that since there are mediation techniques that are from eastern religion. I was thinking of checking out Hallow since it is a Catholic meditation app that is centered on Christ and scripture. What meditation has worked well for you? Also one thing that has helped my wife is the biblical feasts God put in place in Lev 23. That has helped make things like the resurrection and communion come alive for her.

    • @SuperUberDae
      @SuperUberDae 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thejohn17project15 Just my two cents, rather than meditation, I have been trying somatic exercises. They are basically grounding techniques that help you feel physically connected to your body (not in like, a new-age-y way, much more in a literal way). It helps me to stop focusing on my spinning thoughts and just kind of notice the sensations in my body. It sounds little weird when I'm trying to explain it, but they are just ways to try and slow yourself down and get un-stuck. I don't know if that will work, but it isn't centered around any eastern religions ans I feel like it accomplishes a reasonably similar goal.

      Maybe it’s stressing her out that you are wanting her to read more but she can’t stay engaged in her mind, in that ADHDer’s can also have dyslexia in various forms and reading against white paper is difficult. If she rarely reads any books at all or gets fatigue when reading look into Irlens Syndrome and color over lays for books, computer screens or color overlay on glasses. It helps tremendously. Also, what helps me with scripture reading is driving and listening to audio Bible. My mind needs to be engaged in two different things to retain the information. Let her do the driving or better yet let her go for an aimless destinationless drive by herself with a Bible audio book. It really does make a difference.
      Don’t put stress on her to study the Bible, it will only make her more anxious and avoidant….
      Sincerely, from an ADHD wife.

    So very happy to have found this channel! Earlier this year I was praying and asking God to heal me of ADD and I found your channel shortly after typing in Christians and ADD. A couple days later I ran into an article that I'd taped in an old prayer journal of someone who had ADD, and social anxiety, and that God's answer to him was the Bible for the renewing of his mind. So after running into those things I think that God was telling me that I'll have to continue to live with ADD and rely on Him for help. Which is great for one's spiritual health but also frustrating since having ADD is hard and gets one into trouble at times. Binge watched your channel when I first found it and your videos, and reading the comments of other ADDers, was SO HELPFUL (!) and made me feel not so alone in the struggle. Some requests would be a video on how to be a good/helpful/patient regular brained spouse to a husband or wife with ADD and another on how a ADD brained spouse can do the same to help the non ADD spouse (as in for example not overwhelming them with one's ADD bouncing chipmunk brain). Also what to do when you can't take meds for ADD. God bless you and your efforts with these videos! Will pray for you and your channel. Thank you so much for creating it!

    It's great to have found you on the TH-cam. I'm a backsliding Christian who has struggled for a decade to connect with God. He has done a lot of sanctification in my life, He has grown me in many ways. That bit is great but I have never really had a drive to seek God, not even as a new believer. Wish I did. The issues around motivation, being easily bored or simply distracted is difficult - you understand. I'd rather play computer games - well...at least my flesh does. The idea of reading the bible or praying to God whom I can't interact with face to face isn't exactly appealing to me. I prayed plenty of times for God to help me and to ultimately change my heart, but it seems like nothing is changing. I feel defeated 😞

He wants to be a part of your day everyday. Lately, been doing small things like praying in bed way before bedtime and just vent to God, and listen to bible verses but ASMR version. I also listen to the bible while drawing and do my best to pay attention.

      @@CrypticHowl I don’t know you personally, so I can’t comment on any patterns I see in your life, and I have to take you at your word. So, I have to be careful, but to me it sounds like you’re in a good place. The fact that you’re struggling AGAINST your own flesh is a good sign. All Christians have two natures: the old man, and the new. When you get saved, you don’t lose your fleshly desires. A lot of times, serving God is just an act of the will. Sometimes we won’t feel so close to God, but what we choose to DO is way more important. We aren’t saved by any of our works or actions, but just through belief in Christ. Just as much, we don’t keep ourselves saved by how good we behave. We should definitely be striving for personal holiness, but there is Grace for us when we fail. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
      He also knows our frame, and remembers we are but dust. He can sympathize with our weakness, though he didn’t sin himself. Stay encouraged. You definitely are NOT alone. Keep seeking him just one hour at a time-one day at a time. This is a marathon, not a sprint!

    as someone that's christian that has been diagnosed with adhd and new diagnoses in the works due to my therapist and psychiatrist suggesting so, it's nice to see someone else deal with similar issues. From what I've seen in the christian community, there seems to be a lot more neurotypical influencers that teach things. As I'm on my journey to better myself through Jesus it would be nice to hear from someone that talks about things more biblically and use scripture to motivate those and see what we should do that have adhd like us. I pray that if God leads you to that path of helping share that with others, that you will be able to find the resources, life experience and wisdom needed for this kind of topic. God bless, hope and pray you're able to get a better grasp on dealing and learning to battle with your adhd as time passes :)

    Hi, Brother. As soon as I saw you posted a new video I never clicked so fast. Lol.
    Anyway, I was wondering if you can make a video on Tips For Getting Out of Backsliding For People With ADHD as I am backsliding on and off. It's so hard to focus on God.
    And I tried getting a psychiatrist to diagnose me, and she never came through for me, after writing in a journal (like she said to) for a whole month about how I felt and attention span. She never gave me a follow up appointment, and I kind of didn't know what to do.
    I really need meds to focus better. I might find another psychiatrist that can better help me. But idk if i can find someone that will accept my insurance. If you can keep me in prayer that I find someone that can diagnose me. She said that it would take months to give me a diagnosis when i heard in this ADHD group I'm in that some people got a diagnosis as in little as a few days or even weeks. It's ridiculous!
    Anyway, keep strong, brother. May your channel continue to grow and you keep bringing glory to God! 🙌🙏

    Dear Mason!
    As a christian content creator with ADHD I know this situation very well. The perfectionism ("I do this for the glory of God, so it has to be perfect" or "I teach people about God, so I can't make careless mistakes" etc.), the overwhelm, the emotional burden, the anxiety, the procrastination. And I also know what is it like, when the initial enthusiasm is gone. It's hard. Very very hard.
    Having a lector is a good idea. But beyond that... Just create content! It is extremely helpful even if you just share your struggles about being a christian with ADHD. It's OK, if it's not perfect. Probably you will not say some huge heresy anyway.

      I will check out Gabor Mate. I don’t think I’ve focused on judgment unless you’re talking about Gods final Judgment for all people, in which case, I’d say it’s very important to point out Gods judgment from time to time. The Bible tells us to flee from the wrath to come, meaning we should flee to Christ because God demonstrated his love towards us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. That’s definitely loving to tell someone about their sin and need for the blood and forgiveness of Christ. That’s the gospel! 😌
      “Focus on love” is easy to say because it’s quite obscure and thin. The Gospel is love. The sacrifice made on the cross for our sins is true love and I agree, should be our focus!

      Gabor Mate is a quack,he promotes witchcraft and drugs (the drug dealers sort of drugs,not the big pharma sort) as a "cure" for traumas.
      I have seen this becoming a trend sadly with shrinks promoting witchcraft as a cure,in stead of real help.😓

      @@IHaveADHD I have found for myself that buried trauma (loss of mother at 2yo) was at the root of it.
      The little kids don't know how to react to the danger and thus learn to distract himself from it (It's too big to face)
      That become a pattern, distraction, daydreaming to avoid pain.
      Then you have to call up the young kid in yourself that got that experience of pain and give him love as Christ would.
      The common pattern we develop as we grow it to beat ourself up for our failings and thus it just make things worse.
      I find that I am drawn to kids of that age and want to help them and be close to them as a way to heal my inner kid.
      I don't know what % of case are related to trauma, but it did fit like a glove with myself.
      I think that with the current breakdown of families explain why there is an explosion of cases at the moment.

      For now. I’ve just been going through some really hard stuff, plus I’ve got ADHD (obviously 😂). But I’m planning a few videos I’d like to pick back up with soon. I’d love to be consistent at uploading in the future! Thanks for being interested!
