    Hey Everyone! I had to RE-UPLOAD this video because the original one had some interlacing problems with the video. This one should be clean. If you commended on the previous video to enter yourself in the giveaway for these inks, I still have your info... but it wouldn't hurt to comment again! :-) I hope that you'll all share this video with someone else who will appreciate it... we pen/ink people need to stick together.

    The three characters next to the recycling symbol does NOT mean made in Taiwan, it means qualified product 合格品
    If it's made in Taiwan, it will say 產地: 台灣 or 台灣製造. The whole labels are all in simplified Chinese--if it's made in Taiwan, it will be traditional Chinese.

      Here's the common translation that I get from Google: photos.app.goo.gl/MzyHEDKidgid7BA7A But! Sometimes the "Taiwan Product" does switch to "Qualified Product". Also, the name of the ink switches around quite a bit.

    Good review. I have both inks. Enjoy both. I find them to work well in all pens. Main downside is slow drying. The Al-Star writing was excellent, with shading & sheen. Tramol also makes some excellent glitter inks. I buy many bottles & overall cost delivered is about $4 USD.

    • @thewetpen
      @thewetpen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I watched your video (or maybe two of them) about the Tramol inks with glitter, and enjoyed the review. The inks looked great, but since I find that I rarely use glittery inks, I haven't been buying them recently. I went on a hunt for the Tramol inks without glitter... I'm sure they're out there... but I ended up going down some other rabbit hole on AliExpress and ended up not buying any new inks, that day. This is a good reminder to look again. Thanks!

      At this price it's probably worth buying a couple of them :-) Also worth considering... these Ostrich Inks end up around the same price, and there's a good selection of colors. I believe that "Moon Lake" is the same as the Pine Forest here, and the Okinawa Sea might be the same as Volga River. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DCAkZpl

    Fun! I used to be really into sheening inks but stopped using them as much because they tend to be hard to clean out of pens. Lately, I've been using pastel chromoshading inks more often. They're beautiful and super easy to clean, but they're usually bone dry, which I hate. I tried adding a drop of Kodak Photolfo to the chromoshading inks to make them wetter, which works, but they don't shade as well. So now I'm back to sheening inks again. I hope they come out with wet chromoshading inks and easy-to-clean-out sheening inks someday, but I guess the chemistry doesn't allow for that. I suppose everything has a trade-off.

    • @thewetpen
      @thewetpen  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm still a fan of sheening inks, though I'm not as big a fan as before... I've been getting interested in pigmented inks recently. I've had the same issue with chroma shaders being too dry.

    update: so i ordered both these inks and the ostrich amethyst one. Matthew's review is really spot on! i recommend them if you want highly sheening inks! :D (my midori paper doesn't seem to be showing the sheen well though. may be because it's been in stock at the shop a long time, sizing issues, idk. that said, i'll be trying out some Bachuan and Izumo paper in the future to see how well sheen shows up on those.) thank you again Matthew for this great review! 🥰👍👍

    • @thewetpen

      Ah, I'm glad it worked out! If you do try the Bachuan paper, let me know what you think... I got a few A6 sized sheets of it with an order, once, and I wasn't crazy about it... it was just like tracing paper. Incidentally, Pure Pens (in Wales) carries the Nebula notebooks from Colorverse for about 12 pounds, and they're Tomoe River, which provides some of the best sheen there is, and also try "Art From the Heart" for Tomoe River... they have good prices in the UK. www.afth.co.uk/

I went back to the listing and it has in super tiny font “Tomoe” lol 2) Japanese Izumo 92g paper. Both show sheen very well and behave pretty much the same. I suppose it might be because these tramol inks are super sheening which helps a lot. 😄

Thanks for your review, I'd seen these inks on AliExpress but didn't take the plunge, I might now though. It would be amazing to win either of these inks because I think they are both beautiful, however I'm in the UK so I don't know if that makes a difference. I bought a bottle of each and they took 87 days to get here (Belgium). But good things come to those who wait, right? Unfortunately,, my bottle of Volga River ink looks nothing like yours. Maybe it was a bad batch, or maybe they dropped some of the dye meant for Pine Forest into Volga River, because it's definitely a teal ink, not a blue ink. Quite disappointing. I'm tempted to order another bottle, but I think I'll just order another bottle of Krishna Kolkata instead. Yes, it's about twice the price but at least I know what I'll be getting.
    The Pine Forest ink also looks nothing like your bottle. It's just a green-ish teal with red sheen. It reminds me a lot of Diamine Smoke On The Water.

    • @thewetpen
      @thewetpen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aww, I'm sorry to hear that! It's so disappointing when these ink makers don't maintain the same formula from month to month. Since then, I've ordered several other oddball Chinese inks, and at least one of them was exactly like my Tramol Volga River, so I had just assumed that there was a factory somewhere that makes the ink in bulk and various brands re-bottle and rename it. I think that Becomefish Soul is one of them.
      On December 3rd I ordered a PenBBS pen from a non-PenBBS storefront on AliExpress, and after a couple weeks, it hadn't arrived so I got impatient and ordered a different pen from the official PenBBS store on Etsy. A couple weeks later, that pen arrived and I liked it, so I ordered another two PenBBS pens from them, and a couple weeks later, they arrived. Finally, last week, the original pen that I ordered arrived. It didn't take 87 days, but it felt like it took forever. I love the pen, though 🙂

    Pi ne looks cool, what does non carbon ink mean? I mean are most inls carbon or non carbon for fountain pen?

    • @thewetpen
      @thewetpen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a bit of a strange thing; carbon isn't part of any fountain pen ink. Traditional Chinese ink (used with a brush) for calligraphy is made of carbon and can't be used in fountain pens, so it may be that they're specifying that... but the other possibility is that it's a translation problem, and they mean that it's a non-pigmented ink. Most fountain pen inks are dye-based, but some are pigment based... pigments can be used, but they can also clog up pens if they dry in the nib, so they take a little special care. That's all I've got 🙂

    How does Volga river compare with Sheen Machine and Nitrous or Oxygen?

    • @thewetpen
      @thewetpen  ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually don't know... I read so many bad things about Nitrogen that I never ended up buying any, and I don't have sheen machine either. However, I do have a couple of other Oraganics Studio inks... the Santiago Sea and the Walden... and they both sheen like crazy, which is what I expect from Sheen Machine. Volga River sheens with a pinker color, and it's not quite as heavy... you still get some blue color showing through underneath, unlike the super sheeners.

    I like this type inks the issue is that they clog or dry to fast on pens. They settle in the cartridges or converters and need to be shaken constantly. At least that was my experience.

    • @thewetpen
      @thewetpen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think that you have something else in mind... "shimmering" inks are a different thing than "sheening". Shimmering inks have glitter in them which can clog and settle, as you say. Sheening inks do not. Instead, the dyes that are used in them create iridescence when they dry, so you shouldn't have any problem with clogging, etc.

    • @thewetpen

      Unfortunately, I don't get much sheen with these inks on Rhodia. I just did another test with Volga River on a Rhodia notebooke, and the ink behaves well of course... no feathering or anything, but there's just a hint of sheen if you look very closely. If you can't find Tomoe River locally you probably won't find Cosmo Air Light, but you might find Midori, which sheens well. Black n' Red notebooks sheen very nicely for me, or any other notebook that has "Optik Paper"... it's found in Oxford notebooks sometimes. It also tends to sheen well on heavier papers like watercolor paper. Good luck!
