  • Adobe Lightroom is a great tool for sorting and editing your photos. But when it comes to regular tasks like how to resize a photo, it’s not always obvious. And that’s because Lightroom’s designed to be a non-destructive image editor. This means you never affect the original image and this includes resizing it.
The easiest way to resize an image in Lightroom has always been to Export it, which creates a new image file. This is the same advice whether you’re using early versions like Lightroom 3 or 4 or the latest version of Lightroom CC. When you use the Lightroom Export dialog you have a large choice of options to resize the new image.
In this short video tutorial, I demonstrate how easy it is to resize (upsize or downsize) your photos using the Lightroom Export feature. Enjoy the video and feel free to contact me if you’re having problems.

Thanks for the video. Forgot that this option was in LR6. Usually only think about Photoshop or Affinity Photo to do resizing.

No problem. There are some very good options now for resizing. I might need to think about doing a series.

I'm looking for the settings for sourcing out to print an image 8x10 or larger. I can't seem to find a tutorial on it. Thanks for sharing though I think this was great.

I'm assuming this is in Lightroom. Are you trying to print a single image on a page multiple images? Are you trying to print the image yourself or output the image to JPEG to send to a print service? Let me know as I may have/be able to create a tutorial. Thanks

@@RobinWhalley No I send to a lab online. When I get ready to select my order and sizes I get an error message saying the resolution is to low for the size I want. It's the average sizes 8x10, 16x20 . ... 5X7 and lower is fine. I don't know what the heck I am doing wrong. I have not change any settings on my camera. I use Fine Print Large. I figured it must be something inside of Lightroom. I wish I knew the default settings. I'v'e searched and search ...video after video . I appreciate you trying to help.

@@ItsMyLifeDaralynn Thanks for the information. I'm going to try to create a video tutorial for you. Hopefully I can get it out this week. If I can I will reschedule my other pending videos for future dates. I assuming from what you've said that you're using the Print module rather than exporting a file. If you are, have you checked the "File Resolution" setting in the "Print Job" panel? It may be set too low.

i do astrophotography. if I want to make the image of a small planet take up a large portion of the picure, I can do that with crop in development. But when I export it, it is small again. How can I look at the new picture, then export it?

You can't enlarge an image within Lightroom and see it enlarged. It's only when you export that you can use the Image Sizing option in the Export dialog. Using that option you can enlarge it but then you would need to import the new image you created to see it in Lightroom. Hope that makes sense.

Doing the long edge at 6,000 what does that really do? My default settings are Width & Height and both are at 1,000x1,000 what does that even mean?
