Definitely in my top ten all time favorites. It sort of enrages me that people always parrot "Requiem for a dream" as being this sort of masterpiece in terms of depicting addiction in film, when Spun did it infinitely better, with humor and intelligence.
I’m four years clean from an IV meth addiction. That movie was as close to reality when it comes to meth that I have ever seen. And this song, it’s outta this world. The best version I have ever heard. The esoteric guitar riff and the steady beat in the background is mesmerizing. Of course the lyrics for meth perfectly. An iconic maiden song made even better.
I remember watching Spun and this came on, my brain was going nuts. Wait, I know this song!! Number of the Beast was the first album I bought with my own money, ( I was raised on country music and forbidden to listen to “that devil music” until like 87or 88) had a black light poster of the cover on my wall
Yeah me too. It was not unfortunately until the chorus that I finally realized. And then was like f*** I need to find this. This is better than the original. Well different
I had almost the exact same experience... altough a huge IM fan, it tokk me to about the third line to recognixe the song - just becaise of the setting , arrangement and completely different vibe... it was litteraly like a lightbulb was turned on in my head when I recognized the song... mindblowing!!!
I had the exact same reaction first time watching Spun... "What is that song, I know this one"..."Wait, What! It´s freaking Number of the beast! What!!!" My mind was totally blown... I just love this version... it´s just so loose, groovy and carelessly performed.
Love this tune ,love the movie, Brittany Murphy used to be on this song cover for the movie spun but they changed it , she was special there was something about her that was magic❤.RIP B.M
This song is seriously deep. Knowing the context from the movie Spun and Zwan's esoteric version on acoustic guitar relaying the theme of confronting the evil that you conjure in your own heart, One of the truly great cover songs of all time ...Right up there with Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower and Johnny Cash's Hurt..
As a former speed user.......this song haunts me. In a good way now. I can play it and I'm sober. But there's evil in us all and meth feeds it. Make no mistake The devil is closer than you CAN believe
Love Iron Maiden, this is an awesome cover for an awesome movie! I quit smoking meth 14 years ago; I watch Spun now thinking ‘OMG I used to be one of these people!!’
August 2006 was my last time. Never looked back. Although I watch this movie to keep me humble and how it’s never impossible to get into it again. The car scene at night triggers me to the point where it feels like more of a flashback
I left alone, my mind was blank I needed time to think, to get the memories from my mind What did I see, can I believe That what I saw that night was real and not just fantasy Just what I saw in my old dreams Were the reflecetions of my warped mind staring back at me 'cause in my dreams, it's always there The evil face that twists my mind and brings me to despair Six six six, the number of the beast Hell and fire was spawned to be released Torches blazed and sacred chants were praised And as they start to cry, their hands held to the sky And in the night, the fires burning bright The ritual has begun, Satan's work is done Six six six, the number of the beast Sacrifice is going on tonight I'm coming back, I will return I will possess your body and I'll make you burn 'cause I have the fire, I have the force I have the power to make my evil take its course
This is what a cover tune is supposed to be. Nowhere near a carbon copy, instead, a recreation...an alternate version if you will. Another example is Hurt by Johnny Cash. Bands put enough of themselves into the song that it becomes part of them. THATS a cover tune done right.
This! I don’t particularly like exact copies of covers, my old band had covered Hurt by NIN and changed the key from minor to major and did a big melodic jam at the end.
A lot of people think this was about occult stuff. It was simply about a nightmare Steve Harris (Iron Maiden’s bassist) had. It’s darker when you make it into a folk song….very well done
They made this song so so much their own that it took me YEARS to figure out that it was an Iron Maiden cover. And it's not like I wasn't familiar with the original, I wore the album out when I was a kid plus the live album that it was on, Live After Death. I'd sing this version along with it for years and it never occured to me then one day singing the chorus it smacked me in the face, like...DUH. That's how much they took it and made it theirs, amazing cover
I relate deep with this song. One part of my life I got lost and dark. I seen some things I couldn’t get out of memory still today was it real or fantasy.
i love Iron Maiden, have seen them 16 times live, have Eddie tattooed on my shoulder blade, and this is the best cover of a Maiden song I've ever heard. Thank you, Billy Corgan!!
Props on this comment. Went straight to the live version of coltranes my favorite things and ive gotta say you unlocked something special for me. Coltrane x maiden x zwan cover, and the interconnectedness in messaging and tone
Yes WMG, thank you for blocking a song that was a b-side from a long out of print single, a song that should have been on a soundtrack that you never released. Thank you for being Warner "Music" Group.

Bruh....I haven't listened to this in half a decade if that....of all things a Vice gaming video about the Dead Space remake just reminded me of this band when they mentioned them still being on the soundtrack or something. All these years I never knew this had anything to do w/ Billy Corgan or Smashing Pumpkins either. Damn I remember this movie too....wild. Dude was just joking
2 yr old comment but you probably know the answer by now. Soundtrack was not released i don't think and the copyright owners of the original material have prohibited it's release i read somewhere a little while back.
WMG - if you're going to do this then at least do it to a song that we can go out and buy!!! Fekkin numpties - the only reason i am here to listen to this sony in all its crappy youtube glory is because you wont let me buy it!!!!
Some days I wish this song could go on forever
This song lives rent free in my head
as it should! truly a masterpicee and one of the greatest covers of all time
Great cover. It reminds me a little bit of Steve Earle's song "Feel Alright".
Just as good as the original!
So good.

@memyselfi2005 requiem is still a masterpiece in itself. Not as lighthearted as spun but cmon, fuckin gold

It fits addiction so well. That's why Spun was such a good movie despite the hate.

Its exactly about the occult. Remember what Bruce D was involved in and still is. His stuff spilled over to Steve as well...
It’s so much better than the original and I’m a huge metal fan
