Nice tongs. I just recently put a 25 ton press in my shop. I'm thinking I could probably do the same thing with the press that you did to make these with the power hammer. Am I correct in my thinking?
This hammer has a built in depth stop so as to not over forge the material. The hammer can work down 1.5" square bar with no problem so yeah it's way better than swinging your hand hammer..

The power hammer doesn't get tired! Drawing those reins out at the anvil would take me a while because I'm old & have to rest a lot! I'm sure you could build the power hammer with more power, he has plans for different weight power hammers.

Ive been making these same flavor for a while now and love them, they are almost exactly like Japanese blacksmith tongs.
I definitely like these type of tongs for getting back to regular work quickly... It helps to have a power hammer for sure as well 😊

i really need to build the hardy hammer i bought plans for... for no other reason than to save my arm on drawing out operations
As a beginner, I love any tong that stops my brain from saying grab those with your hand lol. Finding that difficult even after a few burns 😳
For a power hammer it doesn’t seem to have actual power ,I mean better than forging by hand no doubt

“Not the prettiest tongs in the world”, definitely an under statement, but you not have to be pretty to work well. Interesting video.
