There's a great story about an NBA owner who signed a deal that would move his team to Anaheim, then backed out of it at the last minute. Funny enough, this NBA owner was later forced to sell his team to a former Microsoft executive.
I think that was the Sacramento Kings. Several people have tried to buy the team and move them to Anaheim. There is a reason the street in front of the Golden One Center is called "David Stern Way." Stern was instrumental in keeping the Kings in Sacramento. The NBA did not need 3 Franchises in the same area. There was a rumor Steve Balmer was going to buy them and move them back to Seattle, but then the franchise was sold to Vivek Ranadivé.
It’s a shame. You couldn’t get a ticket to Washington in the 80s and 90s. The team was good, had amazing fans, long season ticket waiting list. When FedEx Field opened it was the largest in the league, and it would sellout. 25 years later and the team is an embarrassment. As an Eagles fan I kinda want them to be good, because they’re historic and part of the old NFL.
You can now thank Josh Harris (Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils owner and Metro DC native) for getting together a wonderful group of investors (Magic Johnson included) to buy the Commanders from Snyder, all pending approval from the other NFL owners.
You forgot Harry Wismer. I mean he owned the Jets back when they were the Titans of New York in the AFL, but if you're gonna do Billy Sullivan, I think you have to do him.

Allen was committed to keeping the Seahawks in Seattle, and brought in competent people to run the team :) IIRC there has only been 2 coaches, or maybe 3, since Paul bought the team. As I said in a comment above, the Packers are run that way because in its early years, the team almost went bankrupt and had to rely on the city to buy stock to keep the team alive. Nowadays, with revenue sharing and an international fan base, going bankrupt isn’t an issue anymore. So the recent stock sales were to upgrade Lambeau Field.
Jerry Richardson was a creep towards women. He was allowed to behave like a criminal and get away with it. He also created the Carolina Panthers and was a great owner in terms of wanting to win getting Carolina to the Super Bowl twice in two different eras. It's kind of like having a relative that's a criminal in you still love the person but also lose respect for them because they are such terrible people. I really hate it for all the women he abused over the years and I hope they can get some kind of compensation for their pain.

The Sullivan years in NE were pretty horrible at times. We use to call the team the Paytoilets. And they lived up to that name most of the time.

People always forget that Art was such a crappy owner that he still lost the team even after moving them, when the whole point of the move was to get his financials on steadier footing in a newer stadium with a sweetheart deal from the city. Art failed at almost every aspect of being a franchise owner in the NFL
I'm thankful for Richardson bringing an NFL team to the Carolinas. However, unlike some Panthers fans, I'm not gonna ignore the shit that he said/did simply because he was the founder.

John and Denise York still do own the 49ers along with their son, who serves as the CEO. Fans have generally softened on Jed in recent years because he doesn't meddle in things the way he used to, allowing John Lynch to do his job. Whether or not that continues to be the case is TBD.

Now Neil Huntington should sell his sole share of the pirates to Pat McAfee. I honestly see it happening within the next 10 years or so. The way his financial growth in his stock portfolio is looking, its more than possible. Plus he's the first punter since ray guy to become a household name people can respect. The redskins got so unlucky because fedex field was built during a small 5-10 year period where stadiums were badly built and it shows. Almost all stadiums which figure in the top 10 worst stadiums were built during that era like the browns, titans, panthers, jags and so on

What I find ironic in all of this that being force to sell the team is not really a punishment as each time they made more money than their initial investment to purchase the team. Synder is going to be walking away from this with alot of money, even though his ego is going to be hurt (billions of dollars is a great cure for a hurt ego).

He was the racist founder of the Boston Braves/Washington Redskins/Football Team/Commanders, one whose bias was so ingrained that his team was the last to integrate. He essentially sold his interest in the Skins bc he wanted to move the team into what became RFK Stadium, but was denied due to the arena being a public entity & DC deeming his prohibition of Black players a violation of district policy
