Nationals are this weekend! Watch the livestreams here: youtube.com/@usajigsaw/streams www.twitch.tv/usajigsaw Pease be respectful and supportive of all of the puzzlers in the livestream chat ❤ This video was sponsored by Ravensburger.
A little late, but I don't think your trays have to be the same size. Personally I would probably go with a longer, narrow one and a medium sized square-ish one.
whenever i hear that ravensburger is sponsoring you to attend an a competition and do some videos. i get so happy for you. i feel like this is a well deserved thing. many companies sponsor people who are popular but they aren't connected to the product. so it makes me happy to see a company that actually sponsors and supports people who loves their products whether it's sponsored or not.
@@KarenPuzzles I started that puzzle a couple of days ago right after watching your video 😂😂 It was actually pretty scary going into the sorting... It took me a bit more than an hour to do that, but every time I start a new section I kinda have to sort them again into smaller and more defined piles 😅 I strongly suggest to invest a lot of time at the beginning trying to separate not only colors but different textures too... But once you start it's mesmerizing and I am truly enjoying it a lot and can't stop puzzling 🤩
@@KarenPuzzles i've done the 2000 piece one a couple times it takes me about 16 hours to do, I love it! its easy to sort the colors and then its just finding similar dots from there which is a bit challenging at first but you get used to it
A bit random, but: I recognise your avatar and name from Jago Hazzard’s channel. Funny that we both watch these two niche channels….now I’m wondering how many viewers have this exact same overlap. 😅
Before I get past the 0:05 mark, I want to say I randomly got recommended your World Jigsaw Puzzle Championship about a week or two ago. My initial thought was "that sounds kinda dumb, but I'll listen/watch it cause I need to focus on something", only to get hooked to all 3 videos. I won't ever get into it myself, but I have a strong appreciation for what everyone is capable of doing and that it has such a welcoming community to all ages and countries. It was a real treat, thanks for all that you've done there.
It was so cool to see you doing some puzzles that I actually own! I only really got into puzzling last year, so I still have a ways to go at growing my collection. I can attest, that mountain scene puzzle is extremely difficult. My mom and I spent a week on it... probably 10+ hours of work between the two of us. I remember the flower/mandala puzzle to be really fun, so I'm glad that you shared that sentiment!
I was glad to see that I have 2 of these puzzles! The Yosemite puzzle was pretty hard for me, but it is so pretty. I've been taking a break from puzzling because of eye problems, but I 'm ready to go again!
The potion puzzle is the very first ravensburges we picked up, it was such a fun beginner puzzle and we were immediately sold on the construction difference and how smoothly pieces actually snapped in, we're puzzle converts because of your channel😂❤
I have that puzzle as well and it was a lot of fun to put together. I bought it specifically to hang in my game room where I am the dungeon master for a Dungeon and Dragons campaign at my house and the potions works wonderfully addition to my game room.
Rabbit Recital and Beautiful Mushrooms were the puzzle images I liked best - but it was fun to see you work on such a wide variety of puzzles. Good luck at the competition!
Good luck in San Diego! I'm a speed puzzling newbie, not discovering this until January. My Circle of Color Fruits and Vegetable time was 1:39.09 when I did it about a month ago and I just picked up Rabbit Recital yesterday to practice on. Hopefully I'll get better. I find myself starting frantic with sorting but then start to slow down in the middle. I think so many years of leisurely puzzling kicks in and I want to just slow down and enjoy it - then I remember its a race! Maybe next Nationals I'll be able to go!
So looking forward to watching you at Nationals in San Diego! Hope to get there next year! I have been puzzling for over 70 years and still love it! And find your videos so fun to watch - and so informative! Thanks for all the time you take to make such great content!!!
I think I'm starting to love love love puzzles. I did my first 1000-piece puzzle just recently. It took me a few weeks, so I'm in no way anywhere near even a fraction of a puzzler per se. But since I've been watching this channel, I only want to get Ravensburger puzzles.
I love a mandala puzzle - especially those dot-painted rock ones (Buffalo Games have a nice small one). I have followed you since the start of the pandemic and never noticed that you hadn’t done a video on them. I thought they’d be right up your alley - very sortable! Glad you finally came around! Good luck at nationals!
That was the first one we bought and it was SO FUN, the potions are unique enough you can sort those colors out and they just have really cool details for each bottle, I loved it!!
I used to live in Oceanside and worked all the way on the other end of San Diego county (lunches were really awesome!), right near Mexico!! Love these puzzles (all of them!)! I have not worked a jigsaw puzzle in ages, but now I have 7 1000 piece puzzles (2 x Ravensburger, including a 1027 piece one with your picture on it (!), 3 x Buffalo Games, & 2 x Cavallini & Co.), 3 single color Ravensburgers (1 part way; the black one, naturally...), and 2 3000 piece Ravensburgers (one barely started; can't even get the pieces out of the box--no space!) sitting around waiting for me to find a rainy day...!
I’ll be watching from the uk, huge good luck! I’ve got my first competition next Sunday thanks to finding your channel! 😀 can’t wait to watch the recaps!
I don't even puzzle that often but I have still noticed a huge difference in skills compared to for example my brother who never puzzles. He wanted to help me once with a puzzle and he got very frustrated after just a few minutes 😂 you always make me want to tackle my next puzzle 😊 i actually did the Mediterranean Spain puzzle, but not in San Diego 🤭
Strict training regimen! Good luck! I've done the mushrooms puzzle (it was great - a keeper!). I want to get the rabbit recital (I have two others by that artist). Can't wait to see which puzzles come out of San Diego!
That tree of life puzzle looks absolutely gorgeous. I hope it becomes available in Germany soon. The artist's desk and the beautiful mushroom 1000 piece ones look super cool, too. I would love to have one of these 😍
To think i wouldn't even know that such beautiful mandala puzzles exist if it wasn't for this video! Good luck at the competition! I hope this type of puzzle is featured
I love the strategy of doing the 1000 piece puzzle sideways to fit! I'm relatively new to speed puzzling and never know how to organize the pieces so they don't get in the way of each other. I also got gifted the Cozy Retreat puzzle from Ravensburger and solved it in 1:09:31. And I've done the Pixar Artists Desk one a couple times but didn't time them (that was before I started speed puzzling or knew it was a thing). I'd like to try the Mandala one but that looks so intimidating! Hope Nationals in San Diego is going well!
Love Demelsa Haughton puzzles and have done as many as I could find. I have the Christmas and Halloween puzzles framed. Her artwork is stunning, but, they are NOT easy for me. I take weeks, not minutes to solve them. You really have a gift. However, I do wish Ravensburger included posters in their puzzles. For us mere mortals, it would be helpful 😄
Thanks for this video Karen, I wish you all the best, you can do it!! I have just done 2 puzzles from Demelsa Haughton (The Secret Garden and the Fish one) and I absolutely love her art style! It will be exiting if you get a chance to meet her in San Diego. 😊
I already have the link up to watch the live stream!!! I'm so excited to watch these events in San Diego. I'm always amazed at how fast you all go!!!! Have fun!!!!
I haven’t done Rabbit Recital yet but do want to try it. Totally agree, the mandalas are tough but sooo beautiful and great to leisure puzzle! See you in San Diego at Nationals soon!
What a fun video! There are a few puzzles here that I would really enjoy doing - the mushroom one really appeals to me. I really love colorful puzzles with distinct sections. My daughter is going to school in San Diego, so I'd love to get my hands on that one, but I guess the odds are probably pretty low. 😉 I'm really glad you did the mandalas because they seem like the type of puzzle that I really like, but I have stayed away because so many people complain that they are too difficult. Now I feel more confident that I really would enjoy one! Good luck Karen!! I think you're definitely ready!
Absolutely LOVED watching you solve that gorgeous mushroom puzzle 😍 My six year old and I did that one recently and were disappointed that ours was missing a piece 😢 it happens lol!
Hello Karen, while I was watching your video yesterday evening TH-cam showed me the live stream of the Jigsaw Nationals. So I hopped over and watched it live. 😄 It was very nice to watch. And I wish you the best for today's finals for pairs and individual.
I love your content you do such a great job. Thank you for all of your work. Having watched a few of your competition videos I have a suggestion, though you may have already thought of it and that is to practice things going wrong to practice looking on the floor immediately for pieces that fall on the floor to practice switching up if somebody is being stuck on a section etc
I have not done any of these puzzles, but the Lighthouse one and the Halloween one look so fun to me. Can't wait to cheer for all the puzzlers this weekend. 💗🥰💯 San Diego 🎉🎉🎉
I discovered Demelsa Haughton not too long ago and have been collecting as many as I can since! All the little details are just so much fun to look at as you piece it together.
I only kinda recently started watching your channel, but your enthusiasm and the beautiful puzzles you've been showcasing got me interested in doing some of these. My girlfriend has expressed interest in jigsaw puzzles, and I think this could be a great activity for us to do together.
Congrats on making it to the Nationals! Idk why I finally decided to look up puzzles on TH-cam but glad I did. Your content is great and I like the assortment of puzzles. I’m contemplating trying the mirror one… If you ever want to try something aside from jigsaws let me know. The diorama displays I make are puzzles to assemble in themselves.
I really enjoyed watching you prepare for the upcoming competition. I wish you the best of luck. SAN DIEGO would be a nice place to hold such an event, but regardless I'll be watching on YT!
Another amazing video. I have to give special kudos to your data tracking and compiling. I am a spreadsheet fiend like you and your sister, and seeing how well you track your puzzling (as well as anything puzzle-related) is astounding! I very much appreciate your use of data in your videos. :D Something something San Diego
I don't speed puzzle, but I do like the random, small element type puzzles for casual puzzling! I like spreading out the pieces and picking one 15 piece object here, one 40 piece object there, and assembling them roughly where they'll go, and then when you get enough of a mosaic going you can just grab a piece and find where it goes one at a time! it's a very calming way to do it for me, whereas a big block of one color or shape where you have to start looking at piece shape is much less my style.
I’ve totally looked at all the mandela puzzles and immediately put them back on the shelf because they look so hard! Good luck in San Diego this weekend!
I want to collect more of Demelsa Haughton's puzzles. Hers are super fun. I'm curious to see what new one possibly shows up at the Nationals competition
Lovely San Diego I wish you so much luck at the nationals, and the mushroom puzzle I have in the house to make someday! I love the mandala puzzles and the other ones from Elsbeth Mclean. I hope I can get them someday!
I never knew puzzles were competitive. I love your videos. I am currently working on a 2000 piece Pokemon puzzle my son bought for me a few years ago. I finally have space in my room.
I am currently doing the 9000 piece Astrology puzzle. I am not timing myself though. I love your videos. I am living vicariously through you lol. Enjoy your competition and keep on puzzling.
Good Luck! I do like round puzzel and mandal. I have been watching you for sometime now and you have given me a lot of good tips and tricks. And as you sad, every puzzel is a good training for the next one. I do like doing 1000 pieces.
*San Diego* I have not done any of those but I have Cozy Retreat in 300 pieces. However, I have done Buffalo Games' Mandala Stones which is similar to the Mandalas you did. I found it challenging because the patterns were so similar. Practicing in the same amount of space that you'll have at the contest is a great idea! I think don't space will be an issue for Individuals but it might be for Pairs. I'll be watching the live stream and looking forward to the recap. Good Luck!!
I just did the circle of colors right before I watched this video! It was the first time I timed myself since I was curious after watching some of your other vids. I did it in 1:12. So definitely not as quick as you but not too bad for my first try I’d say.
Hi Karen! I've been wanting to write this for such a long time, but I always forget. About your time statistics in the competitions: In my opinion if there are multiple turns of a round (for example there is a semifinal A and a semifinal B with different puzzles) the comparison between the two turns would be more fair if you would devide the personal times by the turn's fastest time (basically normalize - as in math - the times). This way, the picture painted of the whole round including each turn's members would be more representative of the actual skill levels at the competition and might be a better prediction of what's to come in the finals for example. I love your competition recaps, I'm just saying it as a fun option (in my opinion) to have some more charts - you seem to be fond of them. 😊
Good luck in San Diego! I watched/listened to the prelims videos last night while finishing up a USAJPA traveling puzzle. While I was puzzling I heard the name of a (placed) finisher and it was the person I’m sending the puzzle to next. Such a coincidence.
Good luck in SAN DIEGO! I'm rooting for you Karen! If you like those mandalas so much, you might like Kodacolor's Vicious Circles from 2003. My daughter and I recently finished one, it was the C Major 9 one. We have another one in the series to do called Ode to Joy. I can't remember, but I think you might have one of these puzzles from a puzzle haul video. Anyway, I think they probably have all the same cut. I don't know how many were in the series, but I think I've seen at least seven different ones.
I am so bummed I am not in San Diego . I would have loved to what the competition and I don’t get back into town until the evening of 24th. Good luck Karen!! I will definitely watch the live feed of the competition!

About your time statistics in the competitions:
In my opinion if there are multiple turns of a round (for example there is a semifinal A and a semifinal B with different puzzles) the comparison between the two turns would be more fair if you would devide the personal times by the turn's fastest time (basically normalize - as in math - the times).
All of the puzzles are beautiful. Good luck in Sam Diego
Good luck at Nationals! I know you'll do great!
San Diego. I'll be watching from the UK. Good luck Karen 😊
The finals were during my wedding weekend, but I am 100% watching them right now!!
You are amazing! Good luck at the competition!
I am so bummed I am not in San Diego . I would have loved to what the competition and I don’t get back into town until the evening of 24th. Good luck Karen!!
I will definitely watch the live feed of the competition!
Good luck 🍀 🏆at Nationals! Also, loved the Pixar theme artist desk puzzle 🧩 definitely going to ask for that for my birthday 😊
I've registered for my national puzzle competition in Switzerland. I'm very excited to attend.
