I like how this one was a soft moody tune in 1999, and is now an epic empowering song :)

honestly as a musician, i think the simple bass is on purpose. The guitars are already pretty complicated, adding complexity to the bassline would only make the songs too busy in my opinion, thus, removing them atmosphere.
Vape Naysh I agree. The bassist for Minus the Bear talks about how his signal chain and riffs are pretty boring in comparison to the guitars. But it holds up the other parts and makes the musical direction feel more natural.

I'm so sad I never got to see them live considering how young I was at the time. I would watch these in my room when I was 12 and just be so mesmerized by their performance. So beautiful coordinated and perfect. Thank you American football❤
You haven't missed them. Lamos has technically left the band, and Mike + Nate are focusing on LIES and Owen, but they're touring the UK in July and playing a US festival in August. Lamos is on those UK shows too, so it's quite possible the full band will be back after the new Owen album. Maybe even before.
I would love to see them come back to Australia, as they didn't do an LP3 tour here. We live in hope.

Four Elements Fantastic vocals. I don't think anyone should expect the vocals to be as they are on the album. Age has been kind to Mike, but his voice has still changed.
yeah of course but i guess i meant to word it differently. i actually prefer the way it sounds now with the distortion on the lead and his older raspier voice
+Four Elements If you like his voice here you should really check out his solo stuff, under the name Owen. L'ami Du Peuple is his most recent LP and his voice is incredible there.
Update, new album The King of Whys is out and it's fucking incredible.

Listened to this so many times and i've only just noticed how much louder steve's guitar is compared to mike's, don't know how much less i love it and it might be a drawback but kinda brings a diy vibe to it still.

i feel like this would be very difficult to perform instrumentally.
It is, cause the intro is played on two different timings, mike plays two 4/4 bars and two 3/4 bars while steve plays in 7/4 the whole time, then mike joins steve with 7/4 as he sings, and the repetitive trance-y playing of the song makes it harder too

The transition into "the one with the Wurlitzer" reminds me a bit of Night Windows of The weakerthans.....cannot get better than that!
Anyone know what Fender amps they're using? That clean tone is heavenly.

+Ben Funk I was wondering the same thing. I think it's a Twin reverb or maybe pro reverb?
Acording to Equipboard, Mike uses a Fender Twin Reverb, but if you want to nail that clean tone any Fender amp will do, I just recommend you use a guitar with Single Coils 'cause Hums kinda saturate the amp but that's just me being picky, Cheers!

+mongomeister 69 Ya he must of played jazz originally, I know a lot of jazz drummers who play with that low setup.
he did!! apparantly when the album was being written, he got into a lot of jazz, hence the odd time signatures too!

the guitarist fucks up at around 40 secs. i thought the drummer was dragging too the first time i listened.
it sounds like this was recorded live from the board and then mixed in post? so maybe something got goofed there? there's unfortunately only a few shots with both guitar and drum in it during the intro, but it almost looks like he's on beat in the short clips. idk, it could actually just be a mistake. they ain't perfect :P
It sounds like that on the recording too. It's that the drum part doesn't completely sound like it lines up with the guitar part so it sounds like he's messing up when he really isnt

I don't think so. I think it sounds like that because he's keeping a consistent rhythm while the guitars have a polyrhythm going, and because it's high in the mix, it sounds out of sync. Could be wrong, but Lamos is so good that I'd assume if anything's off, it's the guitars.
