    My solution to the beep is one or two pieces of tape over the speaker holes on the bottom. Instant permanent beep volume control. I've done this trick with kid toys, especially the pianos and exersaucers and toy cars (Hess truck) or just about anything with annoying noise. You still hear the beep, but now much quieter and you keep your sanity. But for the really intrepid, just open it up and disconnect the speaker.

    I will say I actually really appreciate the beep! (I also have ADHD so am prone to forgetting... which is also why the insulated carafe vs. the warming plate is absolutely important to me too!)

    I bought the Oxo 8 cup, but returned it. Disliked the carafe, which has a hole in it and makes the coffee colder much quicker than something like the Bonavita, where you have to screw on an air tight lid. Also, the whole basket thing is messy and getting the flat bottom to click in place inside is cumbersome. The rubber eroded quickly and it's just not a good design. It does make very good coffee, and the single cup feature is great, but requires a different (cone) filter. If it was designed better I would have kept it.

    When you want just one cup of coffee and set it for 2-4 how do you control how much coffee is brewed? do you have to just put the amount of water in the tank you want to brew?

    Nice review! Good comments...never considered the beep being annoying but good point (at least it’s only 1 beep). I’ve also had the OXO 2 months (replaced my Moccamaster KB741) and agree, enjoy the simplicity and single cup feature. Only annoyance is the remaining water waiting to drip into the basket when you lift the lid. Good video shots, especially of the water bubbling and coffee dripping simultaneously.

      Thanks for your comments! The beep just feels extra loud during the solitude of morning and so maybe I am just extra sensitive to excessive digital noise. But I'm usually nearby when it's brewing, so I turn the power off before it beeps. Either way, it's just a small thing and I still love the brewer and the coffee it makes more each day. Cheers!

      Why did you make the decision to replace the Moccamaster KB741 with the OXO 8 cup? I have a Moccamaster and I’m debating whether or not to make the jump to the OXO 8 cup.

      @@jasonponce4461 I bought a Moccamaster which I returned after 4 weeks of not being able to get a halfway decent cup of coffee out of it. I modified all variables to try and get it dialed in, but gave up. It took a week to get this one dialed in once we got it, but even while working on the fine tuning of coffee to water and grind size, the coffer was at least drinkable. Not so with the Moccamaaster. If you have a Moccamaster already and you like it, I'm not sure why you would buy this one. If you don't like the setup or you find that every time you switch beans its a whole process you have to go through to dial it in, then this is a great choice. Very happy with the purchase.

      I have an expensive espresso machine that I rarely use anymore because I like the oxo coffee. But, of course it largely depends on the coffee you use… do you grind the beans, do you use quality beans, how much coffee do you use

      Since we should be washing the carafe after each use,it`s not a problem to wipe out the water about a tablespoon is all.

    • @MarkDHastingsMusic
      @MarkDHastingsMusic ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm pretty sure that is a problem with *all* insulated carafe type coffeemakers. In order to properly insulate and keep the brewed coffee hot the need to limit the size of the lid opening, which means they have to have the lip that causes this problem. IMHO the advantages of having a carafe vs a glass pot and hot pad far outweigh the remaining liquid problem. I have found that turning the carafe mostly upside down with a little shaking will get most of the remaining coffee out.
      My solution for cleaning, is to use a long handle scrub brush. Rinsing is easily accomplished using a sink spray nozzle while holding the pot upside down. A bit of upside down shaking gets the remaining rinse water out. Works for me, your mileage may vary...

      Does the same for me splashes everything plus when it is done it leaks coffee from the drip I assume because there is still water left over in the filter so it takes a rather long time for my cup to be drip free. Sad.

    I've been trying to dial this in for a while and I'm not satisfied with the coffee im getting. I'm not assuming it's the fault of the device. What am I doing wrong? I've tried different coffees and different grind sizes.
    I'm neither getting bitter nor sour as far as I can tell.. It tastes more of plastic or metal or ash, and kind of flat, perhaps oxidized.
    Fresh hot coffee tastes like a stale cup.

    Grrrrr... why is it that every brand of coffeemaker doesn't know that a cup is 8 OUNCES!. It is so hard to compare coffee makers. Thank you for making this video! I noticed that OXO considers a "cup" to be 5 ounces not 8! This coffemaker is advertised on Amazon as having a capacity of 64 ounces! At 2:51 in your video it clearly shows a "cup" is 5 ounces, so the capacity is only 40 ounces. That is a *little* different than 64 ounces, no? tried to find this information with this and several other coffee makers. They do not make it easy.
    I'll stop b***ing now.

    I am the only coffee drinker in my home, and I don't necessarily have it every day.
    I love that this is affordable, easy to find and purchase, but I am having a hard time justifying a larger machine for my needs of single cups of coffee. I don't entertain, so the carafe would never get used.
    Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a loose grounds, single serve machine? No pods or nespresso.

    I have only had my OXO 8 a week, and I am not gonna lie, I am not sure I like it. I think the recommended 1 scoop of coffee to one cup of 5 oz water makes for some weak brew and I have made a huge mess every time I have tried to fill the filter up with 10 scoops to get it stronger. Gonna order some 14 cup filters on line and see if that fixs things. But at the moment this is more like a 30 oz coffee maker if you want a strong cup. And, I use quality/strong beans. That is not the issue.

    • @dantove963
      @dantove963 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do have to use more coffee with this machine and the whole basket thing is really a mess. I returned mine and switched to the Bonavita.

    • @ericmartin6730
      @ericmartin6730 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update after 4 months, I stand by my original comments. This machine uses a ton of coffee. I switched to using the Bunn filters for it, so that has limited the mess in the basket. There is a design flaw in which the handle for the basket swings down just as you dump out the basket if you do not hold on to it. I wind up dumping coffee grounds on the handle every few pots.
      If this things lasts for years, then I will be mostly happy. But if it tanks in the next year or two, I suspect I will test the Bonavita or whatever is getting the good reviews at the time.

    hey homie. Absolutely love the content, just some production feedback that I think would help out the channel
    1. keep the autofocus off while filming cause I can hear the lens adjusting.
    2. Use an external shotgun mic. I think that would make the video feel a bit more professional.
    All that being said, thanks for all the input on the oxo :)

    If I didn't know how to disable that ultra-annoying high pitched beep, then that alone would keep me from ever buying this coffee brewer. Manufacturers take note!
    I've disabled annoying beepers on many appliances by simply putting a dab of silicone sealant over the small hole that's typically on a beeper or on the housing where it mounted directly underneath.
    I'm also always interested in a machine's 'full carafe' total brew time, which you never mentioned.
    As for the desired metric markings, and with myself being a history professor, do you really think that George Washington fought against that metric takeover at Pearl Harbor for nothing! lol
