    It is not a flaw for the 4G lte. The problem is that KSUN IMEI numbers are blacklisted by all US carriers.

    The ksu7 walkie-talkie works and the one you may had was probably defective. I have one too and it works just fine and I was also able to hack it and make it higher resolution but cannot import sounds on it.

      ALL the radios have a blocked IMEI number. The radio worked fine but the LTE data only worked for a few hours before locking out.

    If you're ok with a flip version, Ebay usually has Sonim XP3800's fairly cheap, and has a regular USB-C port. They come with a 1500mah battery, if it's included.

    Damn, bummer...so if not this one, do you recommend another Zello type Radio (I know you recommend the Sonim, but it's more of a phone I guess, maybe something I'm not really looking for though).

    So Good review, I enjoyed and appreciated the videos. I have some information on the "radio". I did some digging and found out that the only carrier in the us that it actually works right on is t-Mobile and it has to be a data only plan. seems to be working okay, so the report in the video might be shoty Chinese firmware. From the factory, the data only sim I got was not set up for LTE APNs. So i had to change those because they apparently use different APNs for LTE and non-LTE. I was able to use ADB to side load EchoLink, which was my endgame with this thing so I could talk to repeaters back home when I'm on the road in its own little package. Now, I am trying to figure out how to change the launcher on ZL10 so i can actually open EchoLink. If i can do that, I'll be happy with it. I did order two of these when I placed the original order so I could hand one off to a buddy, but I think we decided I'm going to own this one and we are going to send the other back. I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, maybe it's a different firmware version, but i need to reset the resolution every time I restart the device. I guess, my take on it is, it's a fun little toy if setting $60 on fire isn't quite as fun as spending it on junk.
    @Southwest Florida Tech Net I got echolink working if your reading your comments (Edit)

      I initially put a T-Mobile data only sim in it, and it worked for about 30 minutes until I went into wifi range and then left wifi. Never worked again after that. You can replace the launcher. You need to sideload the lolipop launcher, and then use scrcpy to drag down from the top of the screen to open the control center. From there you can enter settings, and then there will be an entry for "home screen". You can choose lolipop launcher instead of Launcher3(default) and then it's easy to access ALL the apps installed on the device and run them.
      As for having to reset the resolution every time it restarts, I had the same issue, so I created a sh script on my linux machine that would detect the radio on USB and run the command, I can share it if you need it.

      @@StarShipAdventures I can't recreate the wifi-mobile failure. But I have seen cheap android devices with the same firmware take to it badly and cause "personality issues" between identical equipment.
      I actually found that one of the large icon, simple launchers meant for elderly use phones worked best for it. Actually looks like it could be a permanent fix.
      Echolink works for the most part, but I can't get the built in PTT to work yet and on the echo test, I found out that from the hand held, that you can't turn off the in software PTT toggle without crashing out of the app. Through adb screen copy you can just click off it though. But it's progress.

    One very urgent question. After setting this up. When i turn it up again do i need to reconnect the whole thing or it automatically connects. This ksun device have u used a higher version or this problem is only synonymous with the zl10

      I’ve had this ZL 10 for a few days now so far no problem. I hope it stays that way connecting everything up. I just did it with the keypad. It took me a minute to figure it out, but I finally gotta figure it out but when I log out and then when I turn it back on and connect, it automatically logged back in. The manual that it comes with it’s absolutely worthless. The writing is absolutely way way too small.

    Can the ksun be used to bridge?... so for example im california with an analog, talk to a frequency, then ksun picks it uo, replicates it to zello channel then someone else in NY would be able to listen through zello?...

    • @StarShipAdventures
      @StarShipAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The headphone jack may or may not be bidirectional, so I'm not 100% sure. Zello does have VOX capabilities so in theory it should work if you can get audio in and out over a cable. Otherwise get yourself a soundproof box and put the Ksun and an analog radio in the box both set to VOX and there you go.

    • @extrememiami
      @extrememiami 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting vox option if all else fails. I'm here trying to do the same thing, we'll kinda.
      I'm trying to be able to communicate while diving under water to my office 10 miles away on land and this is the closest to that so far.
      So from my transceiver in my full face mask to the boat, then to zello via 4g or wifi hotspot, to zello back on land. So endgoal communicate from 70 ft underwater 4 miles offshore to my office in Miami (or I guess anywhere world wide really). I'm so close, almost got it.

    • @extrememiami
      @extrememiami 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you do find a better way to bridge then vox in a box could you please let us know here that you found a way. Thank you!

    • @StarShipAdventures
      @StarShipAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@extrememiami Other option is to use a laptop computer running the Zello software which would definitely give you an audio in/out interface, the desktop version of zello has vox options build in. You need the old version of Zello though, which is still available from Zello just you have to make sure it's the right download.

    As this device don't have a touch screen, you have to navigate through the app by using the buttons. This is pretty difficult, if it comes to things like aktivate or deactivate the "overlay button" (wich covers way to much if the little display) or to activate or deactivate the PTT-button on the hardware of this ZL10 or ZL 50. Is there any manual or tutorial video available for this? KSUN ZL50 does not have USB to configurate from PC.

      Go to the zello website, or Google your radio model + zello. They have apk files ready to go for each model. You'll need to use android debug bridge to push the apk to the device but that's pretty easy and we have a video showing how to do that.
