  • And we're back with an easy one - Gear Oil!
    Key Points:
    1) Bike must be perpendicular to the ground - not on the side stand!
    2) Fill Gear Oil to the top of the opening - don't rotate the wheel
    Tools I used:

    12mm Socket (3/8" Drive)
    Spark Plug Gap Gauge
    Channel-lock Pliers
    Fluids:
Kawasaki Gear Oil (SAE 80W-90) API GL-5 - about 160 mL (5.41 US oz)
Torque Specs: (if you need them...)
Drain Bolt: 17 Nm (13 ft lbs)
Filler Plug: 6 Nm (53 in lbs)

Pretty straightforward stuff, but nice to see a simple, well done visual reference of the process, start to finish. The list of tools and supplies needed under your key points is an added bonus! Keep up the great content! Cheers

Check your manual. The bike is
Supposed to be on the side stand.

Did you mean the Kawasaki Motorcycle Service Manual referring to Chapter 2-32 Periodic Maintenance: Final Drive Oil Level Inspection that says "Support the motorcycle perpendicular to the ground"?

      My original manual shows the
Bike on the side stand. Correct
Fill level is shown as reaching
The first threads on the fill
Port with the bike on the side
Stand. Mine is a 2009. My
      Apologies for being such an
      Impulsive know it all. Ride
      Safe.

The service manual states to have the bike perpendicular

      @@johnchurchward7255 thanks John.
I recently checked my fluid level and
The manual and it does indicate
The bike on the center stand. The
      Photo showing the level being
Checked shoes the bike on the
Side stand. A bit confusing but
You are correct. Either way you
Will have adequate fluid in the
      Gearcase. Thanks for commenting.

I do mine every oil change. It’s easy and hardly takes any gear oil.

@@beercanrich99 how many miles do you go on each oil change ?

    • @beercanrich99

@@noahdunaway About 3k miles or once a year. North Dakota summers are kinda short. And I have a couple other bikes. I've got a 2008 I bought new and I've only put 30k+ miles on it.

@@beercanrich99 That’s what I do, I don’t go over 3K miles. I have a Voyager also and I seldom put 3K on either bike in a year. I can’t take long trips like some of my riding buddies because of my lower back problems.
