Amazing! Exactly how my mom and I used to make our meat pies. She is gone now and I haven't made them in more than 20 years. This brought memories, tears and a longing for days gone by. Thank you, God bless you.
This recipe is GOLD! I didn't have beef broth, so I added extra seasoning/spices (Maggi cubes, curry, thyme, etc., what I usually use in boiling meat) to the filling for extra flavour and it turned out so well. I also added the carrots after the potatoes cos I didn't want it to cook for long. When I treated the filling, I knew I was on the path to greatness 😂 it was so delicious! The dough was simple to make as well. I made a mistake while making the dough (I forgot to add water to the eggs), so I couldn't form it for a while, but I added a bit of water and flour and just kept kneading it hoping for the best. Thankfully it formed nicely and didn't affect the pie at all. I've been avoiding trying out meat pie on my own cos I didn't want to work with dough, but I didn't find it hard at all. I felt so proud. Thank you! I'm Nigerian myself living abroad where it's hard to find people who make real meat pie, not the sugary fakes I find everywhere 😂 I'm so glad to find a recipe I can follow easily. It hardly leaves an aftertaste too! I'll definitely check out your other recipes as well 😊
It’s so nice reading about your experience replicating this recipe. I just have one question though, the potato used in the filling, is it par boiled or uncooked ?
@@TheCookingFoodie Thank you! I love your videos. Keep up the great job. You know how to make good food, and I like good food. Now that i'm old and retired I'm getting into cooking. If you keep making videos, I'll keep watching them and trying to make them. Again, thanks.
This recipe is easy and straight to the point. As I type this, mine is a minute ready in the oven. Broke one and the dough is this crispy 😊😊❤..it's my first time of singlehandedly making meat pie and it came out very nice. Highly recommended!!😊 Thank you so much for sharing❤❤❤ Oh i just tasted it now, i made a mistake, i used a little too much oil for the pie filling and didn't add enough flour to thicken it..so it's doing oshmirin-mirin in my mouth... I'll adjust this next time 😌
This pie version is 10 times better than my precious recipie.. I tried today and it was perfect very moist inside and flaky outside ... highly recommended 😊!
One of the reasons I thumbed this video up. No talking, just cooking and the video explains itself. Am more interested in what they are about present as in "Food recipe" and not a long speech or how beautiful they look. I have baked Nigerian meat pie before. This looks really good, i will be trying this.
This is the same as Scottish Meat Pasty, which is delicious. When I went to a secondary School in 1961, it was also one of the basic recipes taught at good old Cookery Lessons. I would come from School make a batch just like that for my Parents and us 6 children once every 9/10days as Mum kept our meals varied. Loved making them. Unexpected visitors called, made a batch of scones or fairy cakes in time for tea. No biscuits available to set out in our house.
Thank you. I am a Nigerian and I used your recipe to make meat pie for the first time in my life. I think I used too much butter, cos the dough was a little hard to roll and cut. Other than that, it turned out great. Thank you for sharing this video.
I just tried this recipe,I chose to use 50g extra of butter to see what would happen. The pies are delicious and moist but I could see the excess butter when I used a fork to check if they were done.My shapes weren’t perfect even though I had a plastic pie cutter. Practice makes perfect-I will try it again maybe in two weeks time.
I made this today and it was mad delicious. I used the Knorr beef stock pot. Omgoodness it was freaking tasty. I will definitely make this again and again and again!!!! Thanks for sharing your recipe
@gloriaonyeiwu9404 I think you can make this yourself by simply cooking your beef tender and chewy as you like it with the Knorr maggi beef or chicken cube (which can be gotten in any store or market in Nigeria) and other spices. The broth from this is what I think she was referring to. You can add it into your minced meat-veggie mix to cook nicely for the meat pie as the Foodie described.
A Cornish pasty more or less. Not that it matters. All that matters is how it tastes - and this looks as though it tastes wonderful. And I'm going to know soon enough... 😋
@@toyinyemi4951 For the pastry, I use just 5 ingredients: flour, salt, baking powder, butter and water.
